(USA, 2007, 5 min, Richie Redding) Comic Richie Redding reports on one man’s
frustrations over a justice system that seeks to punish him for defending himself
from an aggressive duck. This short proves that ducks are funny, but violence done
to them is not.
Welcome to Sammytown
(USA, 2008, 20 min, Marc Brodzik) In the early 1980s, punk rock idol, Sammytown,
was enjoying the cult success of his band, Fang. But the murder of his girlfriend would
place Sammytown in a very different light as revealed by this fascinating documentary.
New Cops
(USA, 2008, 55 min, Ron Kanter) "It’s not easy being a cop." In 2003, director
Ron Kanter followed raw police recruits through their eight month training to become
Philadelphia police officers, listening as the recruits (and their commanders) spoke
frankly about the job, including its rewards and shortcomings. Now, five years after
their graduation, Ron Kanter returned "to see how they do the job, and what the job has
done to them." Traveling alongside patrol units (in sometimes harrowing situations)
we learn first hand what compels them to serve. This absorbing docmentary succeeds
in taking us where we may fear to tread, but where, we know, that someone must.
