Back in February we visited Raymond Richards at his studio Red Rockets Glare to record and film several songs for Groupee.com

Raymond's studio sounds great and Ted & the Groupee crew always produces quality videos.

We performed 4 songs, both new and old.

I think it'd be worth your time to check it out!

(during "Burn The Maps" the drums cut out at the bridge, which funnily enough sounds intentional, but really Joel fell of the back of the drum platform!  he's so pro that he just jumped right back in to the song without anyone knowing.  way to go Joelly!!!)

Are you a "words" person, or do you just listen to the sound of it?

Well, if you care about the words this post is for you.

Below are the complete lyrics for our new album, Shouting At Mountains.

To discuss the meanings for all Castledoor songs visit:

skipping stepping stones

oh, i put a penny on a railroad track
can't take it back, who'd wanna take it back
but these kids keep on wishing for a different town
or a different time, anything but here anything but now

tall grass and winding roads
that's where the story grows
i'm skipping over my stepping stones
dead leaves and dried up goals
pass with the wind that blows
i'm skipping over my stepping stones

no, i ain't trying to get a thing for free
like too much cake at someone else's birthday
but in between waking up and going back to sleep
there is no rhyme, just trying to buy more free time

well the beggars can't be choosers till they pay their debts
that's why i'm doing what i do, i'll take what i can get

(repeat chorus)

you travelled out to sea with a heart so wild and free
but your biting on the hooks of the doubters dirty looks
always in transition, endless intermission
a trap, a lie, just to occupy your time

(repeat chorus)

i am here and you are here
we are now
and we are happening

free

while mr. temple rambled on with his achievement list
i sat there poking at my dinner plate
and if he only took a breath between his spit and fish
he might discover that we don't relate

but it's the same thing every time
they try to bait you with a flashy empty clever line

i can hardly think straight deciphering
between the difference of religion and a man
i think i'll join them all with a thoughtful grin
and then be done with it as soon as i began
now that i'm done with it it's time to start again

can we agree if i don't judge you then you won't judge me
let's be free, let's be free, let's be free
and every time i see your face i'll celebrate the ways
i'm not you, you're not me, let's be free

we are free
the fight ends with a jubilee
suddenly
the weights fall of our hands and feet
fear and love
we know which one does not belong
on and on
we're dancing to a freedom song

we are free
in our hands and feet
whatever we believe, free
in our hands and feet
we could stay or we could leave, free

i'll tell you what i know
the truth is that nobody really knows
i'm gonna tell it like it is
i won't pretend to know the end
i hear you talking so loud
like there's no choice
you're just hiding in the sound
of your own voice
and if you try to keep the score
i'm gonna spook your high horse

dusty

the city wasn't good to me
and if you wanna know why i had to leave
my words will be brief
don't wanna take any of that town with me

the lady wasn't good to me
and if you find out why i had to leave
and if you find out how she was a cheat
you didn't hear it from me
don't wanna drag any of that girl with me

my tongue is burning up my cheeks
my tongue is rattling my teeth
i'm sure you'd like to know how i really think
i'm sure you'd like to go and try to make me speak
but i won't say a thing
don't wanna be another one of your stories

and in the morning when i leave
i'll shake the dust right off of my feet

hidden treasure

we followed her out of the window
right into her shadow

i warned you

don't let it distract you

don't let it become you

when anna went missing
she left us a sign
hanging her shoes on power lines
constant reminders of who is on the top
flat on your back your looking up
and you're stuck

oh my darling
don't you know there's something coming back for us
all good deeds go out into the sea like a hidden treasure chest
so wave your flag with every single color
don't you let it fall
when the tide comes in everyone will be rewarded
even if it's small
but we don't need it all

nothing goes how you plan it
or how you want it

when anna went missing
she left us a sign
carving her name high in the pines
constant reminders that your not on the top
flat on your back your looking up
well so what

(repeat chorus)

think it over
think it through
then you've got to let it go
think it over
okay time's up, go
you've got to let it go

so here we go
we're gonna ride the wave till it takes us under
i wanna go with you
your heart is gold and no one could ever steal your thunder
your heart is gold, let it show

fifth tambourine

from a young age you sang me to sleep
except you didn't know
in the rain i've waited for hours
to see your show

i would travel in your band
playing the fifth tambourine
i would travel in your van
singing the fifth harmony

tell me where did you get your guitar
where'd you get your clothes
when i read that you made up your name
then i changed my own

i would travel in your band
playing the fifth tambourine
i would travel in your van
driving you safe while you sleep

there is nowhere else i belong
i want to live inside your song
take me away from all i know
i want to live inside your song

bad day in monterey

on a bad day in monterey
your heart will still be glad
and you won't worry about the rent
when you're sleeping in a tent

the hour glass will spoil fast
the sun gives up too soon
the night goes on, i'm in your arms
we're bare beneath the moon

on a bad day in morro bay
your kite will reach the clouds
and you won't worry about a thing
when you're sitting in a tree
k-i-s-s-i-n-g

(repeat chorus)

but this is not my home
because if it were so
tell me where would i go on vacation

blue eyed soul pt. 7

we spend all our weekdays apart
except for when we're sleeping
such a horrible design
but we're locked in until we meet the weekend
and we're still sleeping
but it's no walk in the park
and i'm stumbling in the dark

late at night i get so hungry
or maybe i'm just bored
well it's probably both
so i'll have another drink to fill my stomach
and trick my head
but it's never quite enough
and i'm skinny like a dog

it's a cruel cruel game
and i'd rather not play
if we're going by the old man's rules
but i will take my turn
and have a little fun
before the bitter ending comes

of course i'd like to take a picture
from the top of the eiffel tower
or just lay down quietly
in a field of flowers
it's the fashion and technology
that send me with a shiver
but it's the wine soaked melodies
of tragic history singers
who know...

that i'm an old soul
i'm an old old soul
i'm just another blue eyed soul

shouting at mountains

try again when everybody's laughing
try again, forget about the one's who say you can't
the only way to loose is quit
stop the train of thought that you've been thinking
learn to speak a language you believe in
clap your hands and wake up in a childhood dream

there's still a piece of me that's holding on
i can feel it in my bones
i'd let the anchor drop if it felt wrong
but i would rather loose control
there's really nothing left to do but shout

i'm shouting at the mountains
if something happens
i'll be the first to believe
and i'm still shouting at the mountains
like something could happen
oh i'm still drunk on the dream

looking for inner peace to keep me still
i wanna beat this without pills
but with the factories and cars that shine
this city's turning off the sky
but we got everything we need inside

(repeat chorus)

shouting at mountains

(repeat chorus)

hush

the sun is growing tired of my burning fear
the moon is empathizing how i toss and turn
they say hush

solomon reminded me it's all but smoke
then elliott confirmed it in the song he wrote
they say hush

still i'm kicking like a little child
i'm swinging at the big grey sky
and nobody will blink an eye
and still i'm singing for a simple stress
i'm singing just because i'm mad
and nobody will turn their head

it pleases me to please my friends and family
but i cannot go on repeating history
i say hush

now i'm thinking like a little child
i'm looking through the big grey sky
imagining a different kind
and now i'm singing for a simple joy
i'm singing just because i can
i'm singing till i loose my voice

across the border

the high school sweethearts were all grown up
and slowly falling out of love
you and i were sneaking away to the bathroom
to sip on some vodka
and there was a whole lot of charity laughing
it felt like we were on a set
and then the spotlight turned on to you and me
when they asked the story how we met

well she was in town for just a couple of days
and then she said let's keep in touch
i said how we supposed to do all the touching baby
when you're not in america
so then i took up a job with the border patrol
and saved up for her one way flight
and when that alien started crossing through
that's when i turned a blind eye

i want it all
i want every piece of you
we got nothing to show for the last ten years
the scar was just a bruise
so darling take my hand
but don't you settle down
i wanna cuddle you
i'll probably fight with you
a perfect match
pound for pound

moving mountains (two weddings & a funeral)

please don't cry
stay on the uphill climb
in time we'll find our peace
atop a mountain peak
as it moves beneath our feet

We are thrilled to announce the details of our first full length album.
Considering we've been a band since 2005, this truly has been a long time coming...
which is ironic, because we made the album last month (February 2009) in about 8 days.

We recorded in our hometown of Los Angeles with our friend Robert Schwartzman.
He has a band called Rooney: www.mypsace.com/Rooney
Not only did he keep us laughing and in good spirits, we feel like Robert really helped us focus on our strengths and encouraged us to keep things simple and effective. The result is an album that captures each band members contributions in a raw fashion...not to be confused with being under produced or cheap, but rather full of life and real emotion.

The album features 11 brand new songs. If you've seen us live then you might recognize two songs from our shows, "Skipping Stepping Stones" & the title track.

track listing:

1. Skipping Stepping Stones
2. Free
3. Dusty
4. Hidden Treasure
5. Fifth Tambourine
6. Bad Day In Monterey
7. Blue Eyed Soul Pt. 7
8. Shouting At Mountains
9. Hush
10. Across The Border
11. Moving Mountains (two weddings & a funeral)

Shouting At Mountains will be available on iTunes and other digital stores on April 21st.
Hard copies will be available at our shows and at cdbaby.com

and if you happen to be a label/manager/industry person and are interested in working with us (we need help in that area!) please contact us at: castledoormusic@gmail.com

thanks for caring about our band

we are so so very happy to announce that after 2 years since the Follow the Dove EP we have new music available.

we present, 'Til We Sink

last year we recorded a bunch of songs and thought that maybe we'd release a full album.  we couldn't seem to find the right way to release it ( i guess the record labels are having a hard time these days, or something ... ).

our friend, clarke, from the seven inch project reached out to us and said "hey, you guys should release a 7 inch vinyl record!"  and we said "hey, yes please!"

we were able to fit 3 songs on it:

Dumpster Diving, Nightlight, & We Will

when you pre-order the vinyl you will receive an email with a link and password to download the tracks.  also, the vinyl comes with a coupon to download the tracks for free.

go buy it here:  SEVEN INCH PROJECT

if anything, you can hang it on your wall -  castledoor's own, liska, made some pretty art for it.

the official hard copy release should be Tuesday, July 29th!

if you have any questions please send us a message and we'll be glad to help.

yay!
