Hey Everyone,
It's the week of Halloween! Did anyone carve any cool pumpkins last week? Send in pictures of your pumpkins and costumes and I'll post them! I'm getting very psyched up – I can't wait to visit a haunted house that I go to every year on Halloween night. A family in my neighborhood puts it together every year and it's actually really scary! People from all over the community line up to see it each year. It's very cool. Then, I go to the community center with my family for cider and donuts and to warm up around a big bonfire. It's so great to see everyone dressed up and having fun!
This week's idea is (of course) in honor of Halloween. Invite your girlfriends over for a spooky sleepover. Rent a few scary movies and scare yourselves silly! Get some festive treats to help celebrate (gummy worms, candy corn, etc). You could even get goofy with a photo-op – get out the flashlights, make spooky faces, and snap away! It's still as fun as it was when you did it at five years old – I promise. And friends always make it even better!
Hope everyone has a fun, happy, and safe Halloween! And don't forget to check out www.grltlk.org for more girl-fun! That's all for now, Katie
_____________________________________________ Each week Girl Talk brings you the Idea of the Week filled with fun and creative alternatives to drinking alcohol. It may seem that all your friends are spending their time partying and you're probably thinking your only option is to join in. But research shows: nearly 75% of girls drink alcohol "to fit in." That means many girls are making bad (and illegal!) choices because they feel like they need to. Do you want to suffer the negative consequences that come with underage drinking? Here's my advice: be the cool girl who finds something else to do instead – you'll probably find that other girls around you will be thankful and relieved to have something fun and safe to do!

Hey Everyone,
Yikes! I know it's been a while since my last Idea of the Week blog entry. I believe the last one dates back to August. The title should be more like the Idea of the Month! I promise to be better about posting an idea each and every week on fun and creative alternatives to drinking alcohol. Here is the first installment of my new and improved Idea of the Week. I hope you enjoy it.
Halloween is right around the corner and I'm getting excited! Fall is by far my favorite season. Why? Well, it's soccer season, the weather is beautiful, the leaves change, I can take out my cozy sweaters, and of course there's always lots of candy around to eat on Halloween! I have such great memories of fall fun – pumpkin and apple picking, hay rides, and making apple cider! I try to do at least one of those things each year, and even try to do all of them if I'm lucky and have the time. With all of the fun festivities, how could one not love fall?
This week, why not celebrate the fall and Halloween? Get out the Halloween decorations and decorate your house, or gather up your friends and decorate your community center! If you get the chance, go to a pumpkin patch or the store and get a pumpkin to carve! Take a picture and post it here, I'd LOVE to see them! I'm going to try and go beyond my normal triangle nose and eye jack-o-lantern and make a funny face. We'll see how it goes…
That's all for now, Katie

Hey Everyone,
Do you care about what's happening in the world and within our own society? Are you interested in creating a postive social impact? Is there a particular issue you care about? I'm particulary committed to YOU and helping teen girls say no to peer pressure and talk with their mothers and peers about the dangers of underage drinking. I care about encouraging girls to live healthy and active lifestyles and providing them with the resources to do so.
What do you care about? Voice your opinion by voting in Myspace's Impact Awards; myspace is honoring memebers for their postive impact on our culture. It's also a great profile to check out and see all the different organizations and advocacy groups working to make a difference through Myspace. This month's category is Health and Saftey so be sure to check it out.

Hey Everyone, As I was going through my morning routine, I came across an article in the Washington Post that I couldn't help but want to share with you. It's simply amazing to think about how far technology has come; technology is now considered therapeutic. Through the creation of avatars and popular avatar programs, the virtual world is helping people fight their diseases and live with their disabilities. Avatars allow people to create identities to how they see fit: free of diseases, disabilities, or problems. Creating these new identities enables people to enrich their live by doing things in the virtual they could only dream of in real life. In addition to helping individual patients, virtual worlds are being used to train doctors, to test first responders, educate the public and raise money. The March of Dimes, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and The American Cancer Society are a few of the organizations already taking advantage of this virtual world and are profiled in the article. Read the whole Washington Post article here. That's all for now, Katie
