PRESS RELEASE

Red Jezebel
will tour Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and their hometown of Perth in June in support of the new radio single Find Our Way Back Home from the band's acclaimed new album How I Learnt To Stop Worrying, out now on Sunday Ride Records (MGM Distribution). Following on from the album's first two singles Kicking Deadly Sins and More Than You'll Ever Know, the latest track is a dirty, rollicking, Spanish-flavoured little number that continues to showcase the diversity that Red Jezebel have become acclaimed for...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The past six months have been dynamite for the Jez. East coast tours with Little Birdy and The Exploders, hometown shows with End Of Fashion, Jebediah, The Panics and Youth Group, 2 WAMi award nominations and a recent live set on Triple J have been just some of the highlights since releasing How I Learnt To Stop Worrying.

The tour kicks off in ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Perth at the Rosemount Hotel on Sunday, June 1 for a special super-sized Sunday session with special guests The Silents, just returned home from their own Things To Learn national album launch tour. Ballsy quartet The Slim Pickins (with their own new single out and out now) add some extra beef to the line-up, and it gets bigger with moody pop-rockers Myles Vincent and newcomers The Ghost Hotel (feat. Woody from Red Jez doubling up for the night, along with mates Gibbo ex-Team Jedi, Jake from Capital City, Jack ex-Grand Central and Stevie ex-White Trash) getting things started. Doors open 5pm, the footy will be on the screens and the Rosemount kitchen will be open for this one so if you're still nursing any Sunday hangovers, for f%k's sake nurse it here! Tickets are $12 at the door.

Friday, June 6 sees Red Jezebel head to Sydney and hit Spectrum in Darlinghurst with special guests The Retreat and Philadelphia Grand Jury. Doors open 8pm and tickets are $10 at the door. Spectrum's located at 34 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst.

Red Jezebel head to Melbourne next and return to the Northcote Social Club on Saturday, June 7 for the first time since supporting Eskimo Joe a couple of years back. This show is a double-bill with the fantastic Blueline Medic, who are releasing a new 7" to follow up their 42:19 album of last year. Opening up proceedings will be Jack On Fire (featuring members of Institut Polaire) with their kickass brand of intense swamp-rock. Red Jezebel are the meat in the sandwich for this one, on stage just after 10pm. Tickets for this on are $10 + BF from www.northcotesocialclub.com, via our box office on 03 9486 1677, or in person at 301 High St, Northcote. Door sales will be $12. Doors open 8.30pm but come early for a meal if you feel inclined, kitchen opens 6pm.

Sunday, June 8 the Jez wind up in Adelaide for a show at the Ed Castle (233 Currie Street). It's a late starter this one, with doors opening at 10pm (restaurant's opening until then though so come down early for a feed). The Jez will be joined by fine Radelaidians Anthony Of The Future, playing their first show for quite a while. Tickets for this one only $8 at the door, and don't forget it's a public holiday next day over there.

Come on down if you're in any of these areas!

Here's what the press have been saying about the new album…

"Ten years together and it's only album no. 2 for Perth's Red Jezebel. The experience, though, is evident in the confidence of their songwriting and arrangements in this collection of beautifully crafted indie gems. This is melodic rock at its best, with atmospheric swelling sounds, foot-tapping guitar rhythms and carefully layered effects."

- 4/5 stars, Paul Smith, Sydney Morning Herald

"A lot of artists proclaim to paint over a wide canvas of genres, but if Red Jezebel said that to me I would believe them. The thirteen tracks here do in fact hold great variety and a wide range of ideas, instead of just the promise to do so…Excellent guitar work with strong songwriting ensures that this record succeeds. It's not particularly what they do, but how they do it, that makes this one worth going back to."

- Michael Pincott, Rave Magazine

"To these ears, this is musical innovation than comes once in every 1,000 bands, that cannot be described without actually playing it… music so good it makes wading through the other 999 bands worthwhile."

- Mike Wafer, Xpress Magazine

"…a clinic on how an album should sound – diverse yet retaining a continuity and punchy yet developed with substance. This is an album that works for your attention and deserves it completely…Red Jezebel are unlucky to release this album so late in the year, otherwise it would have been a shoe in for Album of the Year."

9.5/10, Alchemist, Tsunami Magazine

Thanks to those who came down to Amplifier Bar for the New Years Eve show, it was a fantastic night. Cheers also to Xpress Magazine's Bob Gordon who included How I Learnt To Stop Worrying at No. 6 in his top ten albums of the year - Bob, you're alright!

Finally, voting has now opened for Triple J's annual Hottest 100. Red Jezebel have had both Kicking Deadly Sins and More Than You'll Ever Know included on the shortlist for voting, so it would be great if you could click here and cast a vote for both songs.

Thanks to all who came down to the Red Jezebel shows with British India - all the shows were a huge success, including sellouts at Norfolk and Amplifier. Mad props also to Kill Teen Angst who kicked some serious arse at those two shows.

The new Red Jez single Kicking Deadly Sins has been given official Triple J rotation so expect to hear it a lot more in coming weeks. Also on the radio front you can hear Woody and Al on RTR's Breakfast with Barr on Monday, August 13 at 7.30am. Woody will also be playing a number on-air as part of the station's Radiothon action.

On the live front the Jez will also be joining Melbourne rockers The Exploders on their WA album launch tour at end of August, before taking in the rest of the country on tour with Little Birdy. The tour covers Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane plus a hell of a lot of regional areas, with Sherlock's Daughter opening all shows. No South Australian dates on the Birdy tour, but Red Jezebel will be making the trek over mid-trip on their own for a show at Adelaide's Jive Bar on Saturday, September 22. It's hoped this will make up for last year's Adelaide no-show on the Eskimo Joe tour following Woody's unwise consumption of a dodgy mixed-meat kebab the previous night in Melbourne. Dhoooo.

The band has also just released the video for Kicking Deadly Sins - it's been made by their old mate Steve McCallum who was behind the previous Red Jezebel clip for You're Making Me Nervous back in 2004, and has since won a WAMi and a WA Screen Award for his work with Snowman. You can see it on Youtube here or on the Jez myspace, and keep an eye on Rage in coming weeks.

Red Jezebel have parted ways will their label Warner Music. It's not another case of the big bad major label or anything like that, more of combination of delays to release schedules and key staff leaving the label. The band is extremely excited to finally show the fruits of almost a year's worth of recording, all of which the band now has full ownership. The album How I Learnt to Stop Worrying will be out in October, and it's a absolute corker. The first taste of this is the single Kicking Deadly Sins which has already been scoring plenty of airplay on RTR-FM and JJJ.

In the meantime Red Jezebel get back into the full swing of the live thing when they join British India for a run of WA dates. British India are in town armed with their debut album Guillotine and hit the Norfolk Basement on Friday, July 27, then Amplifier Bar the next night, before wrapping up with a show at the Indi Bar on Sunday, July 29.

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Red Jezebel play their first show since supporting Elbow back in March. Catch them helping New Rules For Boats launch their new EP The Skips on My Record at The Bakery on Saturday, June 16, along with Mink Mussel Creek, The Flairz and Josh Fontaine. Tickets are $10 + BF from 78s, Mills and Planet Video or $15 @ the door.

Red Jez frontman Paul Wood will also be playing a solo show on Wednesday, June 6 at Mojos Bar in North Fremantle. Woody, pictured here having an early morning durrie, hits the stage at 10pm and will be joined by From the Skies (featuring The Sleepy Jackson's Malcolm Clarke), Felicity Groom and Bourbon Sprawl. Doors open 8pm, entry is $6

Red Jezebel are also featured in the Love Is My Velocity cookbook, contributing a recipe for salt and pepper squid on a rocket and parmesan salad.

Finally you can hear the first fruits of Red Jezebel's lengthy recording period now on the band's myspace. Two tracks – "More Than You'll Ever Know" and "Kicking Deadly Sins" – are now up for your listening pleasure. These two tracks will be found on Red Jezebel's forthcoming EP which will be out in July on Warner Music. The band will also be playing live again in June, more details next month.

Red Jezebel get the WAMi Festival fever in February. In addition to a brand new track I'm A Sucker, A Doormat being included on this year's WAMi CD compilation pack, the band will also be hitting Club Capitol for a huge two-room extravaganza on as part of the festival on Friday, February 23. Catch the Jez around 11pm in Capitol with Gyroscope, The Silents, New Rules For Boats and Faith in Plastics while The Fuzz, The Volcanics, Dom Mariani & the Majestic Kelp and The Dee Dee Dums rock it up in Amplifier Bar. Tickets to this one are $16 + BF from Planet Video, Mills, Beat and www.heatseeker.com.au or $20 at the door.
Friday, January 05, 2007
Red Jezebel hit Amplifier Bar this Friday, January 5 to join Melbourne rockers The Exploders and Perth's own Sugar Army for one hell of triple bill. This is The Exploders' only city show while in WA to play at the Southbound festival. The perfect way to start the first weekend of 2007, entry is only $10 and doors open at 8pm.
Any under-18s out there will also get a chance to catch Red Jez in January when they play at Langley Park on Perth's foreshore for the annual Australia Day skyshow, along with Youth Group, The Panda Band and The Bank Holidays. Action starts around 4pm, Red Jezebel hit the stage at 6pm. This is free entry.
