What an incredible city! 15 million people spread over parts of two continents, an all-night club scene, and so many marvels of the old world make this a place unlike any other. During our stay, we saw such wonders as The Blue Mosque, Ayasofia, The Grand Bazaar, the Bosphorus Bridge and the Asian side of Istanbul. We split our down time between hostels and the home of our new friend Gokhan. When we weren't wandering the streets or catching a few hours of sleep, we found time to play four shows - one at The Jazz Stop, two at DogzStar, and our final show of the tour, at Limon.
Sunday night at Limon was very special. After a month of traveling and performing all over Europe, dealing with issues of health and money, and enduring exhausting debates over such things as tour logistics, accommodations human behavior and set lists, all we had to do was play our music. And we did!
We hit around midnight and quit around 2. The set was entertaining, the audience was into it, the interaction was great, but really, this night was all about us! We thoroughly enjoyed just being there and playing together. The energy and stage communication were chilling. We had something psychic going on, and it cured all the little annoyances of being in each others faces for 30 consecutive days. We ended with a long, solo-filled Move Every Three Years, in which each of us had one last musical word for Istanbul and for all the cities we visited.
We spent the next hour celebrating in the street, knowing that we had just done something very unlikely and very challenging, and that we had grown into something more than we were when we flew out of SFO on July 3.

The moment has come. After about a 30 minute delay to our scheduled 10am flight, we boarded a 737 from Vienna. Once we landed, we had to scrape up American money ($20 each) for visas into Turkey. Spent about two hours at the airport waiting in lines and waiting for a taxi large enough for the six of us and all our gear.
Finally rolled into the city, where we noticed right away the 500+ year old structures standing among new buildings. What a mix of the old world and the new!
Found a room, dropped our equipment, went to see Aya Sofia and The Blue Mosque, then chilled for the night, enjoying Turkish beer and hookahs of apple flavored smoke.
Looking forward to Thursday's gig at The Jazz Stop.

We scattered around Brno, each doing his own thing on this rest day. A little sightseeing, a few beers, and a bit of excitement.
Damon and TK stayed a second night at the Traveller's Hostel, while the other four Heathens found quarter with a friend of Mark's.
Damon and Steve, a hostel employee, with whom we tipped a few tonight, had to chase off some local thugs who were attempting to break into the hostel. Two against five just wasn't fair. Those five punks never had a chance!
Tomorrow, we take a bus to Vienna, where we'll spend the night before the trek to Constantinople.

Our route to Istanbul involves taking a bus from Brno to Vienna, from where we fly to Istanbul, so on Sunday we caught the train back to Brno. We spent the early evening pounding the streets in the hope of picking up another gig.
Eventually, we settled down to enjoy some pizza and three bottles of wine.
We spent the night at The Travellers Hostel, a converted school building with some very interesting architecture.

Peter, the father of Marks girlfriend, Dita celebrated his 58th birthday with The Trunk Show and The Heathens.
He invited us all to his beautiful place in Kromeriz, somehow pronounced chrome-air-zheesh, where he barbecued for us, sang with us, and made us feel right at home. Peter is a dentist with a preference for American Rock and Country music. In the spectacular setting of the Czech countryside, Andrew, Kenny, Mark, and our pal Wing Nut kept the music going until after midnight.

Caught the train from Prague to Brno, where we had no trouble locating Club Stara Pekarna. They had us set up with two apartments where we had an hour or so to get ready for sound check.
This club serves the best goulash weve ever tasted. Not a big club, but warm and full of enthusiastic partiers.
Our two nights there with The Trunk Show were memorable. At the end of our second show, both bands were on stage, collaborating and sounding like we had played together for years.

Scheduled to meet Feinspeiserei club owner at at 11am to pick up our equipment and catch a 12:30 train to Prague. He finally showed up around noon and we had to scurry to stay on schedule.
The Heathens agree unanimously - something we dont often do - that Prague is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet.
Our three days there were spent walking all over town and seeing some of the most magnificent architecture one could imagine.
Our three nights there were spent playing for wildly appreciative audiences at the Bricks Bar within the A and O Hotel and Hostel. Our hosts Nina, Spencer and Casey are great folks who made sure we had a good time there.
The Trunk Show - Aileen, Andrew, Mark and Jez - deserve some mention here. They are incredibly talented multi-instrumentalists and vocalists with whom we have traveled and performed for about a week now. In collaboration with them, we blew the roof off the joint.

Up at 5am and on the road for about a seven hour drive from Berlin to Munich. Got to Feinspeiserei, our venue for the night, dropped our gear and returned the van we had rented in Hamburg.
Slow night at the club, uneventful gig. Munich wasnt bad to us, but compared to the other German cities we visited....
