If I were a song, I would be kicked off the radio. I would be dropped from a label. I would be too indie for commercials and too commercial for the hipsters. I would be heavy and industrial at times and yet breakdown in the bridge to an exposed vocal. I would still have a melody that stuck in your head and lyrics that found a home in your spirit. I would be angry and sad, happy and mad and all the while smiling beneath. I would not be self-promoting but rather mysterious and inviting. I would sound like many bands that stood the test of time, yet have a freshness of new life coming from a unique person and voice. Unprocessed and full of substance. Unpredictable and refreshing.
that's the kind of records I would make. .....If I was a song.

I always wanted to make music on it's own merit. I didn't want this to be a part of it. For me, the glory in listening to music is listening from your prospective and identifying what you will, pertaining to your own circumstance and point of view. I didn't want people picturing "cancer girl" when they listened to me. I've never been one to be into the people behind the songs. Come to think of it, who are the people behind the songs we hear today. I don't think honestly anyone really knows. I want to show myself as a person, not just a musician...something I never was reallly open to until now. I had a story deep inside of me waiting to come out. It's powerful...something that could help and open the minds of many. I never felt it was the time and that I was ready to be so vulnerable and share a part of my story. But I realized in this past year that songs are meant to be heard and stories are meant to be shared. I know who I am at the end of the day and these moments of my life were just moments. Hard, sad, trying, and yet beautiful. I'll never be able to stop writing about them and sharing them to anyone who wants to hear. There's a reason and a season and NOW, IT's TIME. :)
Love to all,
Landon

Last year... I released my debut album, “One Woman Army” in March 08. You may remember “only 20”, a catchy tongue-in cheek single that did great on the airwaves but didn’t really represent the body of work on the album. I admit I am all over the place with influences. I mean NIN, garbage, and a bunch of Euro/Canadian acts that haven’t even scratched the surface into mainstream music. It’s crazy, I listen to the same, favorite albums over and over without the slightest inkling to turn on the radio. I figure a good song will find me and I don’t want to waste my time sifting through the audio garbage to find the gems. “Audiogarbage” sounds like a cool band name. Well to the thousands of myspace starter “bands” out there, this one’s on me. ☺ Bands can be so much fun and so much period. I love musical comradery and touring with sweaty guys that rip their instruments. I have had some unbelievable moments gigging with band mates and I wouldn’t take back most of it. However, where I see myself in the future doesn’t paint a picture quite like Juliet and the Licks. True to my independent spirit, 09’ will bring a new album and tour that is without “licks” so to speak. I need to more room to stretch my wings and re-discover my musical path and this time I will do it without worrying about a business agenda. I started my own label, “matriarch” to release my debut album on. I had the largest US/Canadian distribution behind me, a justifiable radio hit and a strong album under my belt to get the label up and running. Well, one of my many lessons I’ve learned (and still banging my head against the wall for) is you need help from the right people. The wrong people can be so detrimental. There is a machine behind the scenes that works tirelessly behind every act to help propel them forward. It takes a team of people and their integrity to make any vision come into fruition. I believe at the end of the day all you have is your word. ‘INTEGRITY’... I try not to leave home without it. Unfortunately, not everyone feels this way and Matriarch imploded along with the album. Good music will always find it’s way to your ears though. Timing is everything. For now, I have to step away and clear my head. I have stopped to look around at the most amazing love I have ever felt and allow myself to feel it. I am speaking of my personal life, yes but also the love that you all have shown me. The least I can do is give you the album that was meant for you. While you guys are indulging in the music I am now giving away…..I will be off writing record 2, which is by no means a follow up. It is merely a new beginning….. Truly your

Hey EVERYONE, I'm not a big blogger but when I do, I usually have something of the essence to talk about right? Well, wanted to let you know that I am taking some time off for myself and my family right now. I am writing for the next album! I will be touring all of next year like a maniac so my plan right now is to chiiillllll a bit and write some great material. Lots of new, exciting life changes too. If you know me well, you know I'm kinda a private girl with that stuff. I am one person on stage and another off the mic. I think a lot of frontmen are like that and there's something to it. It allows you to become a powerhouse vessel to deliver supernatural energy to people and yet go home and be a normal woman...a bit reserved in vocal tenacity but certainly not thought. :) I think about you guys often and hope I never let you down. I haven't even scratched the surface but there is a perfect timing to everything. Until then, keep rocking the 'one woman army'.
Lots of love to you.
the indomitable

I was off to do several radio interviews today. I was 30 minutes late to meet them in the morning because I could not catch a cab! I was trying to flag one down and they all kept buzzing by. I tried another corner and finally had luck! We walked to the first radio interview at Sirius Satellite Radio. Lemme tell ya, the offices are super wicked. Who would have thought Satellite radio would have gotten so huge? The people I was with spotted some celebrity who was either a sports star or some famous r&b singer. I still have no clue who he is. You see guys, I try to get my pop culture from you so if you think there's something I should know, please tell me...otherwise, I could care less! I am not one of those people that gets entranced in tabloids and perezhilton.com. I watch the NEWS. I got into an argument with one of the people I was with because that is not NEWS to me. It's funny how someone can assume you are not educated with current events just because you didn't know Angelina is having triplets! haha gotcha...no, you are right. She is having twins. But seriously, I don't really care. Anyway, I think they got that i'm a musician and also intelligent...so that's all that matters right? So what If I don't know that Britney Spears married her maid last week? hahah jk! oh how rumors are started! :) So back to the agenda. I met the program directors and they were really friendly. We vibed to several of my favorite tracks on the album and then I had to jet. We were off to Z100 (the hottest station in NYC!) I met Nico, who is a cool young DJ. We really gelled during the interview and shared some under the table laughs. I'll let you guys know when and where you can hear that interview. OH and also when the FEARLESS TV show on FOX airs. I will keep y'all posted! After getting a tour of the offices we stopped quickly to grab some grub. A girl's gotta eat!! Seriously, sometimes it's soo hard to find time to eat quality food on the road. I travel with a snack sack and everyone makes fun of me for it. :( Next up was catching a train to a city near Poughkeepsie. We met with a Musical Director of a great local station and dined on delicious mexican food. When the mariachi came by, I requested "La Bamba". We missed the train and had to take a late 2 hour train back to the City putting us in around 1 am. Exhausting day but fun! Here is a picture of me and Nico, the cool DJ from z100. NIGHT NIGHT! I got up early and had breakfast with an old friend from the city. I then hopped in a woozy cab ride over to the hotel to meet the guys so we could rehearse for the show taping. I was not feeling good! The guys went through the acoustic set without me while I curled up on the bed. :P We got to the taping and the people at Fearless were really cool. We did a sound check and before you know it we had wrapped! It went by so quick. We were lucky enough to get to watch the playback recordings in the lobby and we were really happy with the performance. Our manager rushed us outta there b/c we were late for an appearance at our distributor's (KOCH) office. They moved a baby shower around and everything to squeeze in an appearance. It was rainy and the traffic was severely congested. We drove out of the city on our way to their NY office. (about an hour a so away) We were in the car for 2 1/2 hours then stopped at the worst gas station to pee and grab dayZ old Dunkin Donuts. (In hindsight, the donuts probably weren't the best decision considering how I felt this morning). An hour later... Still not there and still in horrible traffic. We had to call and cancel. We felt soo bad..but there was no way we could have gotten there in time and we also had an important radio show in Jersey to get to in the evening! We turned around and headed for Jersey! We got to the JAM NOW offices and all of us rushed in to find a bathroom. hahah! The guys that ran JAM NOW were super cool and down to earth. We did one of our best and most fun interviews which you can check out in the attached link: We ate some pizza, headed to the car and quickly realised we were unable to get in the car! The car key battery was dead! We were in an empty car parking lot in Jersey at midnight with no way home. ahhhH! The rental agency finally called us back and we were able to dislodge the actual key from the electronic sensor part. Long day? You are telling me. LANDON

Hey Everyone! I have been so busy talking to you guys and returning messages that I haven't really posted a blog in a while. First off, I want to say thank you for being the best fans. You have rallied around me and supported me from day 1. I am so stoked to be sharing this journey with you. So here is the update on everything Landon. We are going to New York in a couple weeks to do a bunch of radio promo shows and one big live show! The east coast have been our 1 region for radio support and tour demands. So we are coming to the city! I love the energy of NY and people's 'no bullshit' attitude. It's very refreshing. My first time in the city was when I was 13. I was there trying to catch a cab ride to my first theatrical audition. Being from the south, I used my southern grace to let everyone who mysteriously jumped before me, to go ahead of me in taking the cab. Needless to say, my attitude changed after the 5th person rudely pushed there way in front of me. This is just their way of life. So now I try to catch the first cab whenever I can, but not at the expense of stepping on anyone. :P So after NY we are getting in the studio with 2 legends, Keith Olsen (Ozzy, Pat Benitar, Fleetwood Mac) and Bob Clearmountain (Rolling Stones, The Who, The Clash)!
These 2 guys have been believers of my music from the very beginning. They are doing this because they whole heartedly believe in this vision and want to show the world what an amazing team we are going to be together. We are cutting 5 live records! 4 songs from 'One Woman Army' and 1 brand new song I finally decided to record. It's going to be all live and stripped of robots and sequencers. We wanted to show the power of the songs and let everyone hear us stripped of the ear candy. There has been a demand from fans to do this and I want to give you guys the best performances from me.
The guys and I are prepping up for some serious tours coming up..but we are taking the time to re-evaluate our goals and agenda. We want the live show to be the way we want it to be and things to be real and raw. We actually decided to get another guitar player and try things out with that new dynamic. It's going amazing...more on this later.
HOpe you guys are doing amazing. Lots of love from sunny California!

Current mood: contemplative
i’m in one of my super deep moods. I get like this sometimes. and no, i’m not high or under the persuasion of any substance. :)
i want to know.. do you sometimes feel depleted at the end of the day? I don’t mean stressed and physically tired from work or driving on the packed freeways. I’m talking about emotional and spiritual energy. Are you doing what you want to do? Are you working where you want to work? Are you doing the things you like to do with the people you really like? Are you with that person you are supposed to share your life with? Now here comes the curve ball. I feel like i’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. So......
why is that so unnerving sometimes? Why do i feel this need to look into the past for answers. When reality is right in front of you, you want to look every way but into its eyes. It’s like we become adapted to mediocrity and settling for less. Our home feels uneasy. Our peers strengthen us by feeding our insecurities with lollipops. ’everything will be okay..keep poisoning yourself with negative thoughts’....if it makes you feel better.
Medicine that causes more pain makes us feel better. People that push us down make us feel better because we at least become aware of self worth..not just a figment of the imagination.
At the end of the day it seems like we are taught to get back in the fetal position, suck our thumbs at the world and call it a day. After all, this is a natural position of comfort. The ideals of "comfort" , "home" and "love" shouldn’t be what we came to know but what we come to hold above us constantly, so we don’t allow ourselves to rest below the bar. I challenge myself to constantly raise the bar on myself. That is my ’key’ to success if you will. But to me a key connotes ’luck’ and success is just some random word thrown up in the air. When it falls down we all catch it in a different manner.
’ i don’t want happy. i don’t want to be content. i want love on a bended knee and for every wrong I did, forgiveness and amends.’
and i leave you with lyrics that will be put into music at some point in the future. maybe these words will be remembered...maybe not.
nonetheless, thank you for absorbing my words. Let them affect you in a positive way...that’s all I ever want to give. ultimate positive energy.
love you all.

Category: Life
Hey Guys. I am going to make a better effort to stay in close touch with everyone. It's interesting being vulnerable to the world...hiding in lyrics and music beds is one thing... discussing my life and cultivating relationships online is another. I'v always been a private person and plan on keeping it that way. I do want to learn how to open myself up to strangers and share with you my heart and mind when the moment calls. So I can't promise it will be every day or every week...because I don't want to bother you with superfluous babble.
so as far as the band goes, we have made some significant changes and headway. Seth Dirty Rice is no longer with us and it's like going through a break-up. Fuck man. man down... stay strong soldiers and head up.
We leave on tour at the end of February with our new man to start a radio promo tour followed by opening dates with a band I can't mention yet. Then we'll wind up in Texas in march for SXSWest. Mama needs a mambo taxi from Mi Cocina and to see my good town southern crew. This year is going to be banannas with 2 epic videos coming your way. Matriarch is doing so much for us and we couldn't be prouder to be a part of that label. We have ultimate creative freedom which is something a lot of artists have abandoned. It feels good. Taking the road less travelled is hard but worth it...not just in the end but in each day when I have to like myself.
Many of you have written to me with personal questions and thoughts. I will do my best to return your mail and answer the questions you have. It is humbling to experience people digging into my lyrics and pulling out the most profound reactions. This is what brings me validity and worth in my career. To see you mouth the words at shows and to see empathy in our lives and hearts dissipate. Just want to make you feel...like i always say...death is around the corner.
what would you do tonight if you knew you were going to die tomorrow? I would sit by the fire and drink my favorite bottle of wine...singing hallelujah by Jeff Buckley.
hows that for deep? haha. The tone of this is a tad depressing..mainly because it is dark and rainy. I have had wayyy too much coffee today and now i'm in the mood to be in love.
i love you all..
