I'm now on the coast of Oregon. We spent the day hiking through the redwoods at Redwood Nat'l Park just north of Crescent City CA. Spectacular. Spectacular. Portland tomorrow. If you are around and want to meet up at Miss. Pizza between 6 and 7 for dinner please come by. Show at 9, with Kristen Gass opening. Should be fun. it'll be nice to play a show again! It feels like it's been a long time...

I presented at Economics of Peace yesterday, following Judy Wicks (of BALLE and White Dog Cafe - a great dynamic and inspiring speaker) who replaced Riane Eisler, who unfortunately injured her foot.

It went well. Seemed to resonate with people and is helping me find people to work with on an exciting new project.

A recording of it will go online at some point. Vandana Shiva was absolutely amazing, as expected. More later...

Oakland was great, more people than most of the other shows (many there to see Camaron Ochs and her band but lots of people being appreciative and paying attention) and a very nice vibe.

db pedersen opened, we did Man Who Stole Tomorrow together for a bit, then played a good set imho and stayed with Jessie in a gorgeous co-housing community called Temescal.

Now am in Sonoma and the Economics of Peace Conference is underway. They've put us up in a lovely guest cottage surrounded by beautiful gardens. I went to a speakers' reception this evening and met some of the other speakers. Looking forward to the rest!

The LA shows were both fun. Echo Curio is a very cool space with art and lots of cultural activities. Check it out! the other bands were excellent. Stayed with some great people from the Echo Park Timebank. Then checked out Venice Beach... The Spot Cafe show was good too, especially seeing my friend Debra Penberthy perform. Very nice. Off to Oakland soon.

In Tucson we stayed with good old friends from the former Chicago band apartment. They have a lovely life there and set me up with a great fun show at the Red Room. I got to play a grand piano there and was happy to do lots of songs I don't play a lot. Wonderful!

Just arrived in Pasadena and are staying with another good friend, Debby (who I'm sharing a bill with at Spot Cafe Lounge tomorrow). Yesterday we went to Joshua Tree Nat'l park after leaving Tucson. It's beautiful. Stayed till dark to see the stars

I love Church of the Friendly Ghost! (In Austin). The Salvage Vanguard Theater is a great space - when we were there there was a musical, an art opening and the music series I played at. Played with Some Say Leland who were lovely. Again, photos will appear whenever I can get to it.

I'm having a most excellent time on my tour. I'm currently by a pool at a fantastic hostel in New Orleans called India House. It's just lovely. New Orleans has been great so far. We met up with Kristin and her friends who made us dinne...r...,

I played some piano at their house while their extremely cute and talented 4-year-old daughter danced, then we went to Checkpoint Charlie's where I played a really fun show and met some great people, including someone who saw me open for the Sex Workers Art Show in Chicago 7 years ago. After I played my set the Russian Mafia band (check http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x274/madgrinder/fliers/consider.jpg for their actual name which I can't reproduce here) rocked us the rest of the night. Went and had some really good food at a place that reminded me a lot of Pizza Luce in Mpls. Soon we'll rent bikes and take a tour of the city, then go to the swamp. Hooray for being in New Orleans!

Yesterday we biked to a nearby cemetery, then went down to Jean Lafitte Nat'l Park (we took the scenic route, about 2 hours out of the way, but that's a different kind of story...) and had a gorgeous walk through the swamp. Our detour got us there during the most beautiful part of the early evening which was good luck. We saw a crane and an alligator plus lots of beautiful plants and clouds, plus our 3rd rainbow of the Louisiana leg of the trip. On the way back it got dark and toward the end of the walk started to pour which was very nice in the swamp.

Ate some good food, saw some good bands at Dragon's Den and stayed up all night w/ Kristin and took her to the airport at 5 this morning. Time to sleep in the car on the way to Austin...

Played at Prop Thtr, first a short solo set followed by The There Was A Mans, opening for Crooked Mouth String Band. Our sets were very enjoyable and went great. I have some good pix for later. Crooked Mouth sounded excellent of course.

Then we went with a big group of great friends to Sanook for dinner. My Madison peeps hit the road and Brent and I went to Ann and Barry's and had a lot of fun with them and Ed and Hannah, their 4-year-old daughter. Cute 4-year-old girls seem to be a theme of this trip. Hannah's a great little player and singer and dancer. Got to play a little music together and hear her play piano and ukulele and sing.

St. Louis we met up with Renee, a wonderful friend who used to run the Timebank program at Grace Hill and who's on the TBUSA board with me. We went to dinner with her son Ben and took a look at his artwork. He does paper mosaic and paintings and is quite good. He has pieces in shows in San Francisco and Sacramento right now if you're there and get a chance to see them. If I hear the names of the galleries I'll try to remember to post them.

The show in St. Louis was at the Way Out Club. It's a very cool place and seems to be an institution. Two big boxy rooms with lots of cool old signs and such to look at, a big stage, nice lights and sound. The bill was cool, there were 3 bands all featuring women standing at the keys. The music was great. It was Molly whose last name I don't know, then Themes from Portland OR, then me, then Ellen the Fellon from St. Louis. It was great to hear what different stuff each person was doing and made me appreciate how much variety of interesting music I get to see when I play shows. I'd probably never be exposed to these people otherwise. It makes me realize I should check out random shows much more often. And also makes me appreciate that booking people match me with cool stuff.

Stayed over in Renee's gorgeous place with a gorgeous view, then hit the road for Memphis for a tourist day of Graceland and Beale st. Fun! Forgot to take the camera to Graceland but that's just as well - you kind of need to see it in person. But I'll post Beale photos later. It's hard to want to be at the computer when I could be in the pool...
