PSYKIATRIK AREA SIDE-LINE REVIEW:

This French solo-artist strikes back with a 2nd full length. The debut-cd "BioMeKaniKal" released on Urgence Disk Records (2007) showed some interesting cuts. This album brings a kind of extension to the electro-industrial style of the project. Hard bouncing industrial beats will lead the adept into a frenetic dance. Joined by different noise waves and other electronic effects this "Psykiatrik Area" moves on a quite violent and perturbing edge. French spoken samplings bring a quite clinical atmosphere to the composition. It totally stands for the title of the album and the universe the musician is here dealing with. I'm not affirming that Schultz has a kind of visual strength, but just that some of the samplings have been well chosen. In comparison with the debut-cd I can't really say that there's a noticeable evolution in sound. This album sounds quite brutal, but that's not really a point. The more you move through the sound universe of Schultz the more some of the songs are stagnating. The tracks start to be repetitive and a lack of variation would have been suitable. I guess it's not a coincidence if the last song "Déviances Sexuelles" remixed by HIV+ & Wump injected this diversity by a more technoid orientation. "Psykiatrik Area" sometimes sounds a bit too 'easy' and 'simplistic' in its genre, but will possibly please industrial lovers.

Translation by Bart:
Distortion units come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. The most
powerful I ever experienced was an obscure analog machine with lamps
which was called appropriately ‘Scrotum Smasher’. This thing did
exactly what it was made form, it made a hell of a noise and teared
every sound, even the most subtle and beautiful sound you could ever
imagine, inexorable into pieces. This seems all very nice, but what
can you do with it … well you should ask Philippe Bodino, he knows his
way with distortion units, an if you would ask me, I believe this man
has a shitload of these units stacked in his studio.
Phil’s industrial project Schultz made its debut in 2007 with
BioMekaniKal, an album that was praised for its raw aggresiveness and
no nonsense straightforward rhythmic industrial and powernoise.
Not much more than a year later, the bar has been raised, with
Psykiatrik Area Schultz is going a step further. It seems that with
some tricks and heavy pushing and pulling on the dry/wet knob a new
dimension is found, or to stay within ‘Scrotum Smasher’ terminology,
the ‘double scrotum’ knob was found. This result in an enormous wall
of sound.
Schultz grapples with the masters in the genre, like Sonar, with both
albums. And the fact that probably some inspiration is found by these
gentlemen doesn’t make a sole difference. Lovers of industrial
beatings, this is your cup of tea. And if this is not enough you can
look forward to Schultz’s new album that is coming in the beginning of
2010.

Unlike most other labels, we actively seek out new talent rather than just sitting around waiting for bands to come to us, but sometimes we may have missed some bands. So if you want a limited CD released on our label feel free to send us a message with a link to some of your music.

We prefer Power/Rhythmic Noise bands most of the time, but we are willing to accept harsh Terror EBM & Dark Ambient bands once in a while also but you have a better chance of being signed if you have some elements of distortion mixed in. We don't care if you have no supporters or if you are new to music production & we don't care about your political views. You can be an unpopular fascist noob or a famous experienced liberal, we really don't give a shit. The only thing we care about is the music itself, if we like it that's all we need to know.

If you're expecting some huge deal with 1,000+ CDs pressed & you expect to be paid a massive ammount of money, please don't bother submitting because SMK is a very small label with very little money. Our releases have ranged in quantities from 30 units - 115 units... Very limited. Because of the world economy as well as freely distributed MP3s we are forced to make the CD quantities lower all the time. We usually pay our bands with half (or a little more) of the pressed discs. So if we press 50 units, we will give you 25 or 30 of them for free. You can sell them & keep the money for yourself, you can send them to magazines for review, you can give them away to friends, whatever. The other 20 - 25 remaining discs i keep & try to sell in an often futile attempt @ making my initial investement back to simply "break even".

We do not usually bother with big label legal things like contracts. I have relesed cds for several bands now & all of them have been satisfied with the outcome, making SMK a trustworthy label. We usually just make a "gentlemens agreement" on how many discs get pressed, & what form of payment will be given to the band. Trust is an important bond between the label & the bands. IF however you feel the need to have a contract written up, it can be arranged, but in all honesty if your trying to get onto SMK the chances are your a very small underground & relatively unknown band that will not make money anyhow. This is for fun, not profit. YOU KEEP THE RIGHTS TO YOUR MUSIC!! Unlike most other labels, you are allowed to do anything you want with your songs @ any time. Want to submit to a compilation? go ahead! Want to release the songs for free online? do it! You worked hard on your music, it IS YOUR music, not mine.

--+-- ONLY IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED ON SMK --+--

We prefer to release full-length albums with at least 10 songs or more. The more material presented the better. This gives the consumers/supporters/fans more value for their money. We beleive in the importance of keeping the fans happy. The masters you send us should be 16-bit MP3 format higher than 128k! The higher the better. Be sure to name the files with the track number first then the song title, this will avoid much confusion. Example:  01-Song_Name.mp3    Include all of your songs into one .zip file then upload it to somewhere on the web, give us the link to download it. We will look it all over & contact you if any corrections need to be made.

Once the track list has been decided, we will send you "art blanks" for the front cover, inside credits, rear track list insert, and the disc. these blanks are like a new canvas for you to make your album art on. They are the correct dimensions & DPI pixel rate required for a decent looking physical product, please do not adjust the height, width or DPI of them! Be sure to leave us enough room to include the SMK logo & required text such as year, contact information, label name & copyright information @ the bottom of the rear insert. We will also add the catalogue number on the right hand side of the side spines. Once again, put all of those files into a .zip folder & upload it.

When everything is done & received, allow us 3 - 7 weeks to get the album pressed & released!

"Even if the NY-based label Soviet Media Control is a rather small one, label-chief LoHr (a.k.a. SLAVY AXIS) proves his fine nose to pick up recommendable international rhythmic Noise acts. The German project [ORGANIC_CAGE] is just such an act, after some self-released albums and some promising compilation appearances like the German ”Extreme Sündenfall” or the Hypervoxx collection ”Weatherhead 3”. Time Kasten is the brainchild behind this North-German project and he offers musically a quit comparable sound outfit like you’ve would expect from acts signed to the ProNoize label. FABRIK C, XOTOX or some acts of the Vendetta-Music label like THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF EUROPE can be easily thrown in as possible references. Extremely limited to only 100 exemplars, this one promises to sell immediately. What you’ll therefore get is a straight-forward moving 4/4-on-the-floor Harsh-Tech assault driven by distorted and overdriven drum patterns, weird synth manipulations and some integrated voice samples. Tracks like ”Immunenutrition”, ”Noisebleed”, ”Program Interrupt” or ”Desert Of Bones” don’t take any prisoners by executing the dancefloors. Good and well produced rhythmically Powernoise for sure, but even not the reinvention of the bulb. Therefore I tend to rate the tracks focusing rather on ominous and menacing sounds, the ones which slow down the speed or which break with the linearity like the harsh and martial hammering ”Deadbodygrinder”. ”Malpractice Machine” offers at least 18 pounding and psychotic Noise tracks, which can easily rival with the abilities of the above mentioned acts. [ORGANIC_CAGE] – a name to keep in mind, if you look out for a quality addition, in case this genre has your preference. "
