Please watch me February 3rd 2008 in the new season (five) of "The Wire" on HBO! I'm in the "React Quotes" episode, portraying "Nathan Levi Boston," a vagrant helping Baltimore Sun reporter "Scott Templeton" (Thomas McCarthy) on a murder investigation within the homeless community. You can watch it anytime if you have HBO On Demand, it's episode 55 on the On Demand menu. Many thanks for your support! best, joe

Scene from "The Wire" on my actor demo reel:

Sunday, December 02, 2007
My buddies Eric Espejo, Richard Friend, and Donnie Conty of 19th & Wilson fame had the thrill of a lifetime today when they met film icon Martin Scorsese in the flesh at The 30th annual Kennedy Center Honors rehearsal, which will be broadcast on CBS Wednesday, December 26th 2007 at 9pm.

Mr. Scorsese was most gracious as Eric presented him with a deluxe boxed set of 19th & Wilson DVDs "The Department" and "Techfellas," both internet hits in tribute to The Man himself. To everyone's delight Marty said he had already heard about "Techfellas," presumably via a mutual friend of Eric's who works with The Director.

I portray Frank/"Jack Nicholson" in "The Department" -- 19th & Wilson's hysterical short parody of Martin Scorsese's "The Departed" Check out the trailer below:

Here is more from Richard Friend:

Eric politely stepped close and said "Mr. Scorsese, can we get a quick picture?" "Yeah, sure!" I quickly snapped one of the two of them. Donnie then pushed me to get in there for a pic, and took over the camera duties.

Eric then said that we had something we wanted to give him, and explained that we were filmmakers and we loved his work -- and that we'd actually made parodies of The Departed and GoodFellas, and that we'd like for him to have these DVDs (which Sarina had beautifully wrapped together with a ribbon). Eric explained that we're computer guys, and that both films are set in the computer industry. Scorsese looked at the TechFellas cover and immediately says, "This is hilarious!"

Scorsese and one of the other guys with him seemed to instantly remember something -- and Scorsese points to him (Donnie captured this moment perfectly in one of the photos) and says "I think he saw this!" And the guy responds, "Yeah, I think I've seen the GoodFellas one!"

The best was when Eric told him how successful they've been on the internet, and what a great response we've gotten. Scorsese says, "They're internet hits!!"

Eric gave him his business card, and I congratulated him again and told him what an inspiration he's been for so many people. He thanked us and shook Eric's hand again before he left, holding his DVDs.

Awesome. :)

Filming Wraps for "The Department"

19th & Wilson officially wrapped filming on March 11th for The Department, shooting their final scenes at The Bean Scene Cafe in Ashburn, VAThe Department is their forthcoming short parody of The Departed -- Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winner for best picture. And the team that created TechFellas last year is excited about their follow-up.

"It's another office setting, focusing on the I.T. department," explain writers Eric Espejo and Richard Friend. "But it equates managers and techies to cops and gangsters, respectively."

Where TechFellas   succeeded in generating internet buzz by recreating key scenes from Scorsese's classic GoodFellas in an Office Space environment, The Department promises to raise the bar considerably higher. The parallels between original film and parody are even more tangible this time around, as director Eric Espejo recognized the depth of material Scorsese's latest masterpiece provided. "This type of office setting is actually more believable, in a sense, than TechFellas was," says Richard Friend.  Espejo elaborates, "They're both clearly parodies, and meant to be funny. We were able to use the structure of The Departed to really play that up."

Director of photography Chris Nuzzaco and sound engineer John Urman were among the new faces behind the camera for this project, which has yielded a new look of sorts for 19th & Wilson. The group also brought in Stacie Jones, of Black Ink Films, as production manager.

Johnny Alonso, Baltimore native and alumnus of Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill , stars as Billy. He's joined by Justin Hopkins (Colin) and Demetrius Parker (Dignam). But perhaps stealing the show is indie film veteran Joe Hansard (Frank), who turns in a hilarious performance in the Jack Nicholson role.

The Loudoun Times was on hand during the first weekend of filming, and an article about the film appeared in their Go section on Wednesday, March 14th. Photographer Rob McKnight was also on set documenting the making of the film, and has published several behind-the-scenes photos online.

Also be sure to catch Eric and Rich on Kyle Osborne's Channel 8 show, "Entertainment Forecast", where Kyle will interview them about The Department .  We'll let you know as soon as a date for the show is set.

I have the pleasure of participating in 19th and Wilson's latest project, "The Department." Set in the office world of Information Technology, it's a short film parody of "The Departed," with apologies to Martin Scorsese. "The Department" is Directed by Eric Espejo based on his screenplay written with Richard Friend. I play "Frank," the Jack Nicholson character in Mr. Scorsese's opus. I wasn't intimidated at all trying to emulate my on-screen hero of so many years.

Filming wrapped last weekend. Cast and crew even braved Sunday's snowstorm and were done just in time to watch The Oscars. It was so awesome seeing "The Departed" win Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Editing awards. It was also really cool getting to work with my buddy Johnny Alonso again. We both did an "America's Most Wanted" episode together some years back. Check out the links below for more info about "The Department"!
