WOMB RECORDS is delighted to present:

CODEX MACHINE

"Man vs Monkey" 12" VINYL ep

WOMB105   Release Date: 01/07/07

A1: Man vs Monkey (4'44'')

A2: Controlled Relaxation (7'00'')

AA1: S.P.Y. (4'24'')

AA2: You Can Never Escape The Underground (4'34'')

The 4 tracks on this 12" vinyl ep are all sample-based breakbeat, but within that vary considerably, from "Man vs Monkey", a thumping breaks treatment of an old skool reggae classic, to "You Can Never Escape the Underground", where dancehall beats meet vintage Bollywood. Elements of hip hop, funk, grime, easy listening, 80s indie, big booming bass and acid synths may also be heard.

Codex Machine are Ms Codex, Dellamorte, and Speednik, a trio of musicians/producers/DJs with a shared vision of creating interesting, innovative and downright sexy electronica. They currently work out of North London. They have been played on the radio by Annie Nightingale, Huw Stephens, Rob da Bank and Bethan Elfyn (all BBC Radio 1), Jay Cunning on Kiss fm, Eddy Temple-Morris on XFM, as well as on various regional stations. They have been described as "brilliant", "cinematic", "gorgeous", "flippin' great" and "breakthrough gems."

Codex Machine have recently achieved mainstream worldwide attention with an appearance on the "Annie Nightingale Presents Y4K" breaks compilation on Distinctive Records (home to Ils, General Midi & Hybrid), with their celebrated Mozart/Love collage piece, "Love Requiem", alongside The Stanton Warriors, Plump DJs and The Orb.

Other events so far include a half-hour mix for 'Queen Of Breaks' Annie Nightingale, an appearance in her Top Ten Tracks Of 2005, half hour mixes for Huw Stephens on BBC Radio Cymru and Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales, as well as Dellamorte's two current residencies at Rocksteady (with breaks giants The Drumattic Twins) and The Eden Collective at The Bedroom Bar in Shoreditch, London. Dellamorte also has a fortnightly show on the "i-breaks" record label's prestigious radio station.

Here's what Norman Records said about "Nose Points In Different Direction" :

"After much deliberation, we've opted to give album of the week to ERGO PHIZMIZ. Well, actually it took us 2 seconds to decide & we threw all the other records in the bin & set them on fire. 'Nose Points in Different Directions' is what I love to regard as a sonic "stew"...

...There's a million ideas on this widescreen kaleidoscopic opus & they all work, tripping over each other, helping one another up in the chaotic melee. Organic samples bounce off frantic layered percussion & disjointed rhythyms. There's a very human, humorous element to this maverick music & this some vibrant, langurous downtempo moments along the way to give you the true sense of a "journey". I wouldn't listen to it on drugs unless you want to go completely mental. It is a drug y'see. So hear what this chap has been recording for the last 5 years & wonder why you still buy Squarepusher records."                     **** Album of the week at:  www.normanrecords.com

"Curiosity abounds from beginning to end, mystic chanting mixed with tribal rhythms and samples of noises of nature and human culture. Ergo's not a guy to give you a drum loop to chew on for fifteen minutes like dry wood - he'll flavour it with world spices, set it on fire, and shoot it to the stars....an album of such virtuosic eccentricity..."         **** MusicOMH.com

***The first 100 sales of 'Nose' will be accompanied by a free copy of the marvellous "Ergo Phizmiz & his Orchestra - Arff and Beef" cdr, which is proving rather popular, so hurry now...

"It is such a marvel of sonic experimentation. Ergo has turned recent pop songs into experimental songs and he even covered "Hollaback Girl." Ergo is an inventive mind."         **** ComfortComes.com

"Nose Points in Different Directions" and "Arff and Beef" are both out now on Womb Records and available from www.wombrecords.com  and  www.normanrecords.com
