Jo Chen Art Book (Limited Edition)

Now Available!

 

A beautiful, limited edition book of many of my cover illustrations is now available.  The book measures 8.5" x 11.75" and contains approximately 140 pages of high quality reproductions of my cover paintings, bound in a powerfoil cover.  I oversaw the printing and it looks great.

 

Only 1,500 were printed and are not available at this time through any retailer or distributor.  Just me.

 

A deluxe book package is also available that includes a custom made carry case, a sketchbook and a set of postcards with my art.

I will be a guest at Baltimre Comic Con 2009 in Baltimore, MD from October 10 thru 11 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

I am there to meet, sign prints and books, and, if time and line permit, to look over portfolios and perform a few commission sketches.

Not sure where my table will be but check your program upon arrival and stop by to say hi. I may also be doing a signing at the Dark Horse booth where Scott Allie will be in supreme command!

I'll have Buffy prints, Street Fighter prints, Darkstalkers prints and more! I will also be signing copies of individual comic book issues of my work for $2-$3 and donating proceeds to the Hero Initiative, a most worthy cause for artists in need of a helping hand.

Be there or be square.

I encourage everybody to check out Nick Simmons' new book "Incarnate" this August from Radical Publishing.  Nick was gracious enough to allow me to paint the covers for the books and you can see Nick working on the scripts in episodes of this season's Gene Simmons' Family Jewels.

Nick will be at San Diego Comic Con promoting the book, so stop by and say "hi" and pick up some of the Incarnate promo materials.

Jo will appear at Otakon 2009 in Baltimore, MD as a guest of UDON Entertainment (Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, etc.) July 18 and 19 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Jo will be meeting folks and signing books and prints.  And if you catch her at the right moment (depending upon the line), she'll take time to look at your portfolio for some pointers.

Look for Jo at the UDON booth and be there with bells ons!

I was asked by the gang at Dark Horse to supply a brief tutorial of the Jo Chen cover creation process.  I decided to use my Star Wars: Invasion issue #1 cover as the subject.  Again, it's brief but it gives the idea, more or less, how I produce my cover illos.  Click here to view:

As many of you probably know from one of Scott Allie's recent, online Q&A sessions, I'm taking a short break from Buffy Season 8 series for personal reasons and will be back after issue #30, I think.

In the interim, I am wrapping up the interiors for a 3-page Buffy short story, written by J-dub himself.  I don't get to do much panel work these days so I'm really enjoying the pencils, inks and colors.  Hopefully, you'll like them, too.

Jo Chen will appear at Collector's Corner, during its Free Comic Book Day event on May 2.  The celebration runs from 9AM - 5PM and there will be food, games, costumed super heroes and best of all free comic books!  A great time for the whole family. 
  
Jo will be there to meet readers and sign.  She will also have merch for sale, including art prints and maybe some sketchbooks and doujin.

Come out and support FCBD and your neighborhood comic book shops where ever you are.  And if you're in Baltimore on May 2, stop in and meet Jo Chen, one of many artists to appear on May 2 at Collector's Corner, named Baltimore's 'Best Comic Book Store" in 2008!

Jo Chen will appear at Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo 2009, April 25 - 26 in Calgary (Alberta, Canada).

I had such a great time at this con last year, that I am abandoning my children for the weekend to attend this year.  I've contributed a piece to annual Calgary Expo art book, too.  Thanks, Kandrix!
 
Look forward to seeing you there.  I'll be anchored to a table for 2 days, at your disposal to peruse your portfolios and sign your comic books.  I will also have merch for sale (books and prints), including my latest sketchbook Doodles From the Margin v3, Devil May Cry, The Other Side of the Mirror, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Runaways, Street Fighter, etc.  Or bring your own copies for me to devalue with my chicken scratch.

These pencil pieces of our favorite Amazon were for an undisclosed project for the D.C. licensing department.  Not sure if the project will ever come to fruition but Sonia Choi at D.C. was kind enough to allow me to display them for your pleasure/displeasure/indifference.  Hope it's the first one.

I've no intention at this time to paint or color the sketches.  In fact, I think they look fine as is.  But that's just me.  Thank you for all of you kind words and comments.
