Let me preface the list by saying that this is the first time I've ever attempted to rank my top albums of the year. And in no particular order....

Band of Horses
Cease to Begin

Beautiful, romantic, nostalgic.... Band of Horses really took me by surprise with this album seeing as I couldn't really get into Everything All the Time. But then I think my tastes are changing a lot lately. I think the weakest track on this album is their first single "Is There a Ghost" and that is saying a lot (it's not a bad song, just very repetitive). This is just one of those albums that would be great to sit on the porch in the summer and listen to with a glass of lemonade and a good friend.

Minus the Bear
Planet of Ice

The members of Minus the Bear somehow manage to outdo themselves with every release. My expectations keep rising with this band and they have yet to disappoint. I can't believe this album hasn't been on more top lists that I've seen around the internet, I think it is stellar. The album paints so many visuals in my head when listening. This is some of their most atmospheric, interesting stuff, proofing the worth of their new member Alex Rose (just listen to the closing track, "Lotus"). The sheer amount of variety on this album is impressive, I was worried it was going to be a lot more like Menos el Oso, which I think is their weakest full-length. And as long as Dave Knudson is still in the band, Minus the Bear will always appear on my top album list. He has to be my favorite guitarist ever. It was so awesome seeing this full album being performed with live lasers in Seattle.

TTC
3615

It is no secret that I am in love with Teki Latex. And for good reason - besides this amazing French rap album from his group TTC, he also has a solo album that will also appear on my list. TTC's older stuff sounds like more traditional rap or hip-hop, but 3615 blends a lot of musical styles like dance and techno while remaining awesome. I find foreign language music really fun to listen to at times, and TTC has definitely opened me up to a lot of awesome french stuff.

Teki Latex
Party De Plaisir

His energy, his beats, his style. I love this guy's voice and his album is a lot of fun. Some of the stuff is pretty cheesy, but awesome and poppy all the same. This album mixes French and English - even Teki himself sings in English on "Disco Dance With You." Feist even appears on the album under the alias Bitch Lap Lap. "Les matins de Paris" is probably the one song that I will think of when I think of 2007. He watched a youtube clip that my friend Shay and I posted requesting him to come to America. He wrote back to me saying that he would show his label and that if that wouldn't bring him to the US, nothing would. Let's hope he (and TTC) makes it over here very soon.

Battles
Mirrored

Battles is fucking nuts. Sounds like Smurfs on an acid parade marching through a forest with wacky instruments attracting all the animals and having them join along. Or a party of drunk chipmunks. This is a great album to listen to in certain frames of mind, if you get my gist. Their songs are composed in very non-traditional ways which gives this album a lot of re-playability. Also, the vocals are very distorted and I am not even sure if they sing in English at all the whole time. They do a great job of meshing the live guitars and drums with the computerized shit - I need to see them live!!!

M.I.A.
Kala

I've been a huge fan since I first heard Arular and I had high, high hopes for this one. Again, I was very, very pleased. I think we are lucky that M.I.A. wasn't let into the U.S. to work with Timbaland for the whole thing - the track he produces and raps on is easily the worst track on the album. Instead she was forced to take her recording sessions to places like Japan, India, Jamaica, Australia, Trinidad, Liberia and the U.S. She also produced most of it herself, which is awesome - hopefully she'll do everything herself soon. This album has a lot of awesome guest vocalists and samples, particularly the kids in the Wilcannia Mob and the Pixies sample in $20. None of the songs on this album are quite as great as "Galang" though. But it's still great.

Explosions in the Sky
All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone

It is horribly cliche to say this, but this band says more with their instrumental music than most bands say with lyrics. This album is a modern-day masterpiece; hard-hitting and powerful balanced with the most delicate and atmospheric. This is my favorite release from Explosions so far, and I can't wait to hear what they do next. I was very fortunate to see them live in Seattle this last year and I can't recommend their live show enough if you like music.

Björk
Volta

Björk has a lot going for herself in my book. She is easily the best live performer I have ever seen. She owns my favorite voice. She makes amazing music and has a beautiful spirit. If I were religious and needed something to worship, it would be Björk. Volta brings Björk back to a land of beats, dancing and energy. For too long she was experimenting with things like micro sounds and voices as instruments. Volta is finally the return to a more "traditional" album like Homogenic or Post and I couldn't be much happier.

Radiohead
In Rainbows

How do I even start writing about this album? I didn't even know they were working on it and then all of a sudden it was free on their site. I feel bad because I didn't pay at the time, but I am definitely gonna pick up the album, especially if I can still find it on vinyl. I've also decided that this is my favorite Radiohead release so far (yeah I know, I didn't even like OK Computer all that much. Kid A was my fave). I've listened to it a lot and it hasn't gotten old at all. I love the variety on the album and the fact that every single song is essential and amazing. Its one of those albums you get chills from every time.

Chromeo
Fancy Footwork

This is the kind of album that when it's on at a party, dancing is guaranteed. If you aren't automatically having fun when it's played, you gotta check yo pulse. "Bonafide Lovin'" may be the catchiest single of 2007, and definitely one of the raddest videos of the year.

Electrelane
No Shouts No Calls

This is my biggest surprise of the year. I knew I was seeing them on my birthday at Sasquatch and listened to them a little bit beforehand. I wasn't too impressed at first, but seeing them live changed everything. Only a few times in my life has a band impressed me as much as they had without liking their music before seeing them. Their energy, intensity and pure talent live was inspiring so I gave them another chance on their recordings. No Shouts No Calls is a very chill, minimalist album that I often want to be in a certain mood to listen to. Nevertheless, the album is very coherent and very beautiful. It usually makes me feel very nostalgic and sometimes sad for whatever reason, but I can't get enough.

Ghostland Observatory
Paparazzi Lightening

Another band that I saw on my birthday this year at Sasquatch, Ghostland Observatory also puts on a helluva live show. They are a two-man group that can best be described as Freddy Mercury plus Daft Punk. They are catchy as SHIT. For like 3 weeks they were all I wanted to listen to. It's the combination of awesome beats and melodies combined with intense vocals that make them really unique. And I know this album originally came out in 2006, but it was re-released again this year and I hadn't heard them before, so I included it.

Deerhoof
Friend Opportunity

Another year, another Deerhoof album. This one is definitely more accessible compared to a lot of their past releases. That's not to say it's boring or uninventive; It is still a very fun, quirky, carefree album most of the time. Plus I love Satomi. She is very charismatic and fun to watch live. Speaking of which, I've seen this band in a tiny old church-turned-venue in Bellingham but I guess now they are opening for bands like Radiohead and playing stadiums and shit. Crazy! They are a very hard-working, DIY band so congrats to them!

Digitalism
Idealism

Simian Mobile Disco
Attack Decay Sustain Release

I'm reviewing these two together because they are almost indistinguishable to me. Both are from Europe (Digitalism from Germany, SMD from England) and both groups put out very, very awesome dance party records. Both groups have received much notoriety from their remixes (they have both remixed the Klaxons, SMD did Bjork, CSS, The Rapture and Digitalism has done The Cure, The Futureheads, White Stripes). It's funny because someone could probably mix both the albums together, split them into two again, and no one could tell the difference. This isn't a bad thing though, it just means that they are equally as awesome and fun. This shit is essential.

Arcade Fire
Neon Bible

I've been vocal about my dissatisfaction with Neon Bible simply because I still love love love Funeral so much. I'll be honest, I was let down by this album, but it's still really damn great. It lacks that celebratory feel of Funeral and replaces it with a more subtle, less-intense, but still powerful sound. It does have a few upbeat tracks which are my favorites, like "Keep the Car Running" and "The Well and the Lighthouse." And if you haven't seen this band live yet, you are really missing out. I think it would convert anyone into a fan.

Maritime
Heresy & the Hotel Choir

This album was another big surprise for me. Their last effort, We, the Vehicles, was really good, but was too much of the same thing. It was very simple pop music and nothing strayed from that formula too far. This album has much more variety to it and honestly, this could be a Promise Ring release. This one is a bit harder, especially with the awesome tracks "Are We Renegade" and "Hours That You Keep." Another thing that bugged me about their last album was the simple drumming and they definitely improved GREATLY with this release. Plus I saw them live this year in Portland and they totally remembered playing hackey sack with me at Western for like 4 hours. Awesome dudes, please check em out - they should be huge.

Justice

† is audio candy, a real treat for the ears. Some of my favorite memories this summer were driving around the lake with this album up so fucking loud. Justice's impressive debut has monster beats, raging synth and will make you dance your ass off for Jesus. I've heard these guys are some sort of psuedo-christian group, but who knows. And who cares. This album is amazing, even the track with Uffie that people bitch about. D.A.N.C.E. got all the attention this year, but it's one of my least favorite tracks. The opener "Genesis" is like nothing I've ever heard before.

Okay, so I am a frequent visitor to http://www.punknews.org and lately they've been posting links to tv news sites who are reporting on the evils of emo. Every single one of these reports is laughable. They say emo is this dangerous thing that leads to depression, cutting and possibly suicide. How did emo become the new goth? Thankfully I saw The Get Up Kids, Braid, Promise Ring, etc before they all broke up. Even then I remember Thursday saying that calling your band "emo" would be like naming your child "shit head."

The emo I knew:

Emo now:

See the difference? What the fuck happened? Emo to me used to bring up thoughts of horn-rimmed glasses, big record collections, librarian-looking girls and dudes with pocket protectors and guitar picks. Now I think of shit like My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy and shit ton of other shitty bands I never want to hear.

Anyway, if you want to hear what emo is all about these days and how to protect your children, you should probably check out this link - click here.

Here is their list of popular emo bands:
Antioch Arrow
Armor for Sleep
Coheed & Cambria
Dag Nasty
Embrace
From First to Last
Fuel
Fugazi
Funeral For a Friend
Further Seems Forever
Gray Matter
Indian Summer
Jawbreaker
Jimmy Eat World
Mohinder
My Chemical Romance
Rites of Spring
Violet Burning

Better watch out, your kids might cut themselves if they listen to Dag Nasty or Jimmy Eat World. Hahahaha.

Portland was rad this weekend. So was the show my band played. We stayed in a nice place with big flat screen tvs, ate sushi, went to a club, got free drinks, stayed out too late, had a Voodoo donut covered in Captain Crunch for breakfast, ate baja fresh and ordered way too many chips, I bought new shoes, records and clothes, looked at even more shoes that I couldn't afford, played a fun show and had our bands name displayed on the reader board above The Satyricon (the cbgbs of the NW?), drove back waaaay too late, ate Taco Bell and got a killer heartburn (thank god for Tums) then I crashed at Jeff's place at 4 AM.

I always have a good time in Portland. I think I like that city much more than Seattle.

I'll be posting some pics as soon as I get em from Eric. Possibly video too.

I have a little tradition of compiling a best-of music list with all my favorite stuff that I listened to that was released sometime during the last year. Usually I have it completed before Christmas and I'll make a mixtape of all of my favorite songs of those albums to give out to friends. Needless to say, I've been busy and procrastinated. So without further ado (and in no particular order):

The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America (Vagrant)

The Hold Steady has been around for awhile and up until last month, I wouldn't have called myself a fan. Vocalist Craig Finn has a spoken-word style and it weirded me out at first. It wasn't until I was on a long drive and decided to listen to their last LP Seperation Sunday that it hit me that this band was amazing. Finn's lyrics are fantastic over the classic-rock feeling jams, often telling booze-soaked love stories. I can't imagine any other band being more fun to see in a bar than The Hold Steady.

Check out their video for "Chips Ahoy" (from Boys and Girls in America)

Rainer Maria - Catastrophe Keeps Us Together (Grunion)

Rainer Maria has been a staple in the indie / emo scene for years. With their latest and last album of their career, they exceeded all expectations. Much of Catastrophe feels very familiar with up-tempo tracks like "Life of Leisure" and "Clear and True." But where this album really shines is its more moody, atmospheric songs like "Already Lost" and "Burn" (the first of those two being one of my most played songs of the year).

Check out their video for "Catastrophe Keeps Us Together" (from Catastrophe Keeps Us Together)

The Blood Brothers - Young Machetes (V2)

Seattle's own Blood Brothers continue as the most interesting mesh of post-hardcore, punk and art-rock today, while still drawing in a somewhat mainstream audience (thanks to some of the radio-friendly tracks on their last album Crimes). First-time listeners may instantly be turned off by the pair of vocals (mostly screaming - Johnny Whitney sounds like a cross between a male an elderly woman - you have to hear it to know what I mean). Intense, frantic songs like "Nausea Shreds Yr Head" and "Johnny Ripper" work well with rock radio-friendly "Laser Life" and slower songs like "Giant Swan." For some reason, this album just works and it's easily better than Crimes.

Check out their awesome video for "Laser Life" (from Young Machetes)

Zombi - Surface to Air (Relapse)

I think my brain exploded the first time I heard this band. A friend of mine had just seen them play in my town and he played them for me the next night. Needless to say I was pretty bummed out that I missed them. Zombi is a two-man band composed of drums, electric bass and synthesizers. They play music inspired by Zombi films. I had also just watched the original "Dawn of the Dead" right before I heard this band and I swear some of it could have been taken right out of the film.

Check out this fan-made video for "Digitalis" (from Surface to Air)

CSS - Cansei De Ser Sexy (Sub Pop)

I instantly fell in love with this band. "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above" was a featured video on YouTube one day and I checked it out. Then I found out they were playing Bellingham a few weeks later and I had an absolute BLAST at their show! It's impossible not to dance to CSS (which stands for Cansei De Ser Sexy which is "Tired of Being Sexy" in Portugese - they are from Sao Paolo, Brazil) and I probably watched that video at least 5-10 times a day for a few weeks. It turns out the entire album is almost as good as that song, but a few tracks are a little lacking ("Meeting Paris Hilton" for one).

Check out their video for "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above" (from Cansei De Ser Sexy)

These Arms are Snakes - Easter (Jade Tree)

Another Seattle band makes the list! Easter was a welcome surprise to me this year. I had seen TAAS a few times when I wasn't too familiar with all of their stuff (usually with another Seattle band Minus the Bear) and they put on a really intense, energetic performance. I would love to see them again now that I've listened to Easter over and over. I love the raw energy, heavy guitars and snarling found on this album. A lot of bands wish they could do what TAAS is doing right now.

Check out their video for "Horse Girl" (from Easter)

The Appleseed Cast - Peregrine (The Militia Group)

It's hard for me to categorize The Appleseed Cast. I've been into them for awhile and Peregrine seems different than a lot of their other stuff. I think it has a more mainstream appeal since a lot of the songs are a bit more poppy than their older stuff (see the linked video below). Being a drummer, one thing that has always stuck out (and this album is no exception) with The Cast is the highly creative, catchy drumming. You can't help drum on whatever is close to a lot of these songs. The cymbals are used in really creative ways and I love it. The title track is surely the standout on the album, but the entire thing feels like one big epic musical journey. And The Appleseed Cast is inviting you along.

Check out an old interview and live performance for "Fishing the Sky" (from their classic Mare Vitalis )

Joanna Newsom - Ys (Drag City)

Joanna Newsom's Ys (pronounced "ees") is modern art. She is a harpist with a singing voice like you've never heard before (some call it childlike, i think she sounds very aged at parts). The album is 55 minutes spread across 5 tracks, ranging from 7 to almost 17 minutes long each. What makes Ys different than her past efforts besides track length, is the addition of a full orchestra at parts. Some of it remains just her and her harp, but the orchestra is a welcome addition. She sings about birds, meteors, trees, bears, mountains, rivers, etc since she grew up in the mountains. If you want to hear an album unlike anything else released in '06, check out Ys.

Check out a video for "The Sprout and the Bean" (from Milk-Eyed Mender)

The Advantage - Elf-Titled (5 Rue Christine)

One look at that album cover and odds are you can guess exactly what these guys do. Yes they are a Nintendo cover band and yes, they are good enough to make it into my "Best of '06" list. While they perfectly cover some of the most crucial original NES tracks in history (Castlevania 2: Woods and Mega Man 2: Metal Man Stage), they also do a few rare gems that many a geek will remember (Batman: Stage 1, Solar Jetman: Braveheart Level and Wizards and Warriors: Tree Trunk). If you were a kid in the 80s, The Advantage is here for you. Not only do they cover awesome songs, but they do it well.

Check out a live video for "Mega Man II - Flash Man" (from The Advantage)

Mates of State - Bring it Back (Barsuk)

One word to describe the music of Mates of State? Addictive. Husband and wife duo have switched labels (from Polyvinyl to Barsuk) and also changed sound a bit. They still stick to organ and drums, but to me, it wasn't quite as instantly likable as My Solo Project or Our Constant Concern (their first two releases), but I am pretty much a sucker for anything they put out. They both sing on most of the songs, often taking turns in the middle of verses. Their newborn baby even makes its vocal debut!. Seeing them live is an experience too - you can really tell they are in love with the way they are constantly making eye contact and often smiling, and you can't help but fall in love with them too.

Check out the video for "Fraud in the 80s" (from Bring it Back)

Cursive - Happy Hollow (Saddle Creek)

Take the Cursive that you knew and loved during the grand Ugly Organ period, take away the cello, and add a horn section. Say hello to Happy Hollow. This is a concept album that Tim Kasher wrote about growing up in a small town and all the problems that go along with it. "Dreamers never live, only dream of it," Kasher says during "Dorothy at Forty," the album's first single. His storytelling is great as usual even though I think I preferred strings over the horn section. I am just thankful that Cursive didn't give up on music all together like it was rumored that they had.

Check out the video for "Dorothy at Forty" (from Happy Hollow)

The Knife - Silent Shout (Mute)

Okay, I admit it. I only checked out this band because Pitchforkmedia.com placed it at #1 in their yearly album list. I went to iTunes and previewed some tracks and was enthralled. This Swedish brother-sister duo has some dark, atmospheric, chaotic music and I love every second of it. Like Zombi, this stuff could be the soundtrack to a horror film, but definetely a Japanese one. While the music would be awesome without any vocals (like most techno) the distorted vocals on this album add a lot - especially to the creepiness factor.

Check out the video for "Silent Shout" (from Silent Shout)

The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine (Sub Pop)

This was one of my most listened to albums of the year. You haven't heard catchy until you've heard The Thermals. So simple and hard-hitting, yet somehow so great. The threesome also went through a lineup change twice this year with their drummer, but it looks like the current one is going to stick around. This is another concept album; this time all about a fascist Christian state.. Honestly I don't really get what they are trying to say most of the time, but you can't really know for sure with most albums. I just know that in The Thermals case, simplicity works for them. Less is more.

Check out the video for "Pillar of Salt" (from The Body, The Blood, The Machine)

The Draft - In A Million Pieces (Epitaph)

Hot Water Music is easily one of my favorite punk bands of all time. The Draft is 3/4 ex-HWM members and it's obvious for a lot of good reasons. One is that 1/2 of HWM's vocal department are found now in The Draft. The steady, driving rhythm section is still there. So are the melodic guitar riffs and scruffy vocals. So basically all that is missing is Chuck Regan's vocals and songwriting... I can't yet put The Draft up near HWM on my list of favorite bands, but they make the loss of HWM much easier to bear. And like HWM, they are an awesome band to see live.

Check out the live video for "Alive or Dead" (from In a Million Pieces)

Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo (Big Dada)

I fell in love with this album the first time I heard it. I am not too into hip-hop (I am listening to more and more of it lately), but I think Spank Rock can be enjoyed by the indie kids (esp. postaand the hip-hop heads alike. The beats are off-the-hook for reals yo. Innovative is a good word to describe this disc - I haven't heard hip-hop like this before and I am hoping it's going to lead me down a trail to more similar stuff. Check out the song "Bump" too - the girl on that song raps pretty darned fast. For some reason, the second half of the album didn't quite hook me as well as the first half. Still awesome though.

Check out the video for "Rick Rubin" (from YoYoYoYoYo)

Taking Back Sunday - Louder Now (Warner Brothers)

I used to love Taking Back Sunday back when Tell All Your Friends was out. They were one of those bands that I found back in high school along with The Get Up Kids, Thursday and The Promise Ring when emo was breaking out or whatever. They fell off my radar as the years went by. I still don't think I've ever listened to their sophomore album Where You Want To Be. I forget where I first heard their single "Makedamnsure" but it caught on me right away and I had to have the album. Luckily the rest of it is just as rad, making this my most guilty pleasure of the year for sure.

Check out the video for "Makedamnsure" (from Louder Now)

Maritime - We, the Vehicles (Flameshovel)

Rising from the ashes of two amazing bands, The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan, Maritime brings Davey von Bohlen back to the mic and he hasn't lost anything that made him such a great frontman. Lyrics, the slight lisp in his voice, laid-back tone... I dare you to listen to the video for "Tearing Up the Oxygen" below and not fall in love with what you are hearing. While being different enough to seperate themselves from past bands, Maritime has a similar, more adult and laid-back feeling like The Promise Ring's (phenomenal and unexpected) last album, Wood/Water.

Check out the video for "Tearing Up the Oxygen" (from We, the Vehicles)

The Sounds - Dying to Say This to You (Flameshovel)

Honestly, this album is more of the what we've come to expect from The Sounds. Catchy choruses and riffs, Maja Ivarsson's powerful and sweet voice, dancey-keyboards and everything else to make them one of the best retro-dance-pop-rock bands of our time. Seeing them live is amazing as well (I was lucky enough to catch them headlining at El Corazon this year in Seattle) because they really gave their all and played a ton of old stuff to please the fans. I can't wait to hear what they do next.

So Yakima was pretty sweet yesterday. Shook Ones have renewed my faith in life. There were a lot of shitty haircuts and way too many Underoath shirts. I hate that band.

And having a CD player in my car again is the best thing that has happened to me in months. I think I'll be a much happier person now.

Category: Travel and Places

I like flying.

A view of our hotel from the beach. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and it was all-inclusive, meaning everything was paid for (food, drinks, activities, etc).

A view from the pool-area. The hotel got more packed as it grew closer to Christmas and it became hard to find empty seats like the ones here.

My brother Alex, his gf Tegan and my mom at the Isla Bar. It was located in the middle of the pool. The drinks tended to be a little weak most of the time so we just had to drink a lot haha

This is the seating area of Guacamaya, the buffet-style restaurant that was open most of the time. The food was okay, but it couldn't compare to the two fancy places inside that we had to make reservations for.

On the right side under the covered area is the swim up bar. I swam my 4-year-old neice Bella over there often so she could get a Sprite heh

Bella hanging out in the kids pool. She was there every day for a few hours at least.

This was one of the only bummers of the trip. They started construction outside of our window at 9 a.m. every morning (except for Christmas I believe) with jackhammers going. We got on a waiting list to switch rooms, but no luck. I think we got used to it though.

More construction.

Tegan, Alex, my sister Amy and Mom waiting for our reservation at the Mexican place.

Bella and I waiting to get our grub on. We usually tried to dress up when we had dinner because the fancy places had a dress code that they didn't enforce too much hehe.

The food was amazing!!! I honestly didn't have a meal in the two fancier restaurants that I didn't enjoy.

Dessert!

Tegan in the lobby bar at the hotel. This was a pretty popular hang out spot for those who didn't go into town to experience the nightlife.

The kid's pool from our balcony. If you look close you can see Bella in the water and Amy and Mom in the shade.

Bella loves getting her picture taken. And I think that was the first time I ever wore a sleeveless tee haha. I ended up coming home with two of them - one was a corona shirt and the other from Senor Frogs.

I liked this photo in the elevator. Alex's Anacortes shirt actually helped us to meet some people from Arlington staying at our hotel and one of the kids plays baseball on UPS's team. What a small world.

This is a shot from the taxi of the main highway connecting the "hotel district" and downtown.

The boardwalk. This area was really touristy with a ton of shopping.

It's so weird to think that in less than a week age we were putting on sunscreen and wearing shorts and sunglasses...

Those sails were really cool looking. This is the south end of the boardwalk.

A beach in south Puerto Vallarta. This is one area we didn't explore too much unfortunately. Oh well, maybe I'll have to come back again sometime?

Sometimes I get artsy-fartsy.

Probably one of the most photographed places in Puerto Vallarta.

Inside.

Tegan and I outside of the church.

Our waiter making Mexican coffee. It was rad to see him make this. It has alcohol in it so he ignites it when preparing it (can't see it because of the flash). It was damn tasty.

Lizard!!!

Is that pot huge or is my mom just tiny?

What happens in Mexico stays in Mexico!

A shot of the hotel district from the boat we went on.

This one's pretty self-explanitary.

Bella had a lot of fun on the boat. She freaked out when we saw dolphins and she loved to dance when they were playing music.

It was pretty awesome that we lucked out and saw the whales. I wish I had taken better shots.

Whale part 2.

The fish we got to snorkel with. It was pretty awesome... that is until I almost touched a jellyfish. Then I freaked out and got out of the water haha.

The village of Yelapa. 400 families live in the beautiful place and they've only had electricity for 4 years.

Us white folks had to put on sunscreen quite often.

The Yelapa mascot maybe?

Walking through the town with a huge group of wealthy white people was a little odd... I can't imagine what it would be like to live somewhere that huge groups of more priveleged people came in to view the way of life. I dunno.

There were pretty much huge spiders everywhere so that sucked. But I think they keep to themselves for the most part. We walked on a path up to a waterfall and they were everywhere above our heads the entire way.

Some of their webs we had to walk beneath.

Barf.

One of the houses on the trail.

The waterfall. There was a little restaurant on the right.

Tourist group again.

A few houses.

They were working on getting electricity to more buildings while we were there.

A church.

I don't think Gloria's was still open...More of Yelapa:

Yelapa gets their income completely from fishing and tourism.

Haha, this shot was really posed. I just remember some commercial that was like this.

Getting back on the boat.

Alex coming down after parasailing.

It was amazing how not-scary parasailing was. It was actually really relaxing.

Haha, this is gross. My camera was strapped to my lifejacket so this was as far away as I could get the camera.More parasailing shots:

Our hotel on the left.

We swam a lot every day. Bella is an excellent swimmer for her age too and not afraid of the water at all!

She'd even let Alex throw her up way high!

Mom at the buffet restaurant. I like restaurants without walls.

A mariachi band played on night during the fiesta. It was really awesome. I decided I wanna play bass in a mariachi band.

Bella loves to get her groove on.

This was taken during the fiesta. Alex and Tegan went to the Outback Steakhouse that night.

Dancers during the fiesta.

My mom and I went on a bus tour of the city and we stopped here first.

That is a 2-ton Jesus statue made of wood. It's eyes supposedly follow you when you walk around the church.

Next stop was a tequila factory. It was weird tasting that stuff at like 11 a.m. They had flavored stuff that I bought that was freaking good.

We took the bus up to the hills where all the rich Americans and Canadians live.

Maybe someday I'll have a house up here haha

View from the hill.

I think I'll have Victor translate this.

Some more hotels in South Puerto Vallarta.

This restaurant we stopped at didn't have a paper menu. You picked what you wanted by looking at it. Best seafood EVER.

My mom got the seafood platter. It included a red snapper, mahi-mahi filet, 4 shrimp, crab, lobster. I had the special shrimp which was stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. yummy!

That's what was left of her food.

On Christmas they had a party for all the kids. This shot is from our balcony on the 8th floor.

I lucked out and saw Bella hitting the pinata!

Since it was Christmas we all got Bella a few things so she'd have stuff to open.

Bella in her new 'Rosito Frosito' shirt. AKA Strawberry Shortcake.

Bella and I love taking pictures of each other.

Can you tell that's her dad?

Hahaha, I don't know why I love this picture so much!

Playing in the waves is awesome but sand in the shorts really isn't.

Sunset behind the boardwalk bridge. This was taken while at our dinner table on Christmas. We went downtown to an outdoor restaurant called Oscar's. The food was unbelievable!

Quite different than the X-mas dinners of my past.

I love the fireworks setting on my digital camera. This was outside of our hotel on the last night.

I was so stoked that they were playing marimbas! I haven't seen or heard those things in ages. This was our last breakfast :(Some more shots around the pool area at the hotel:

Okay, this shot is amazing! I want to enter this into contests or something.

We went to the mall after we checked out of the hotel and before our flight. We found an arcade so I played Pump It Up for awhile. When I was done I turned around and there were at least 20 people stopped in the mall watching! I don't ever get crowds like that in the states anymore!!!

Alex and I out by the road. We didn't want to come home.

Goodbye Mexico!!!
