PLEASE, PLEASE, READ THIS FULLY BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS! I had literally hundreds of questions last year on things that were already covered in here!

Date:

Sat 4th – Sun 5th April - The Skating!

Sun 12th - Latest hand in for the vids

Sat  18th - Prize Giving @ Reskue

....

Location:  Anywhere in Southampton! ....

Put
simply instead of having a competition at a skatepark, where you have
to do tricks on certain obstacles at a certain time, we are giving you
the freedom of a whole weekend to skate anywhere around Southampton!....

How it works!....

You
need to get into GROUPS of up to FIVE.

you can have less people in your group if you want. So there
are FOUR skaters and ONE main filmer in a group, the filmer can skate too if
he/she wants and anyone can film the filmer. Come up with a name for your group.....

We
give you Saturday and Sunday to skate and film, and then one further
week for the filmer to edit together a video part for your group.

WE will
then put the videos up on the shop website and Myspace for people to
see and vote on, the voting will go on for ONE WEEK and then we will be
giving out prizes on the Saturday at the shop.....

Rather
than just having one "best" skater like normal comps we want the
emphasis to be on fun, so there will be prizes for best edit, best
slam, best line, best trick, most fun, most original spot, pretty much
anything we can think of! Bearing this in mind there is no reason for
anyone not to enter, even if you don’t feel you are that great of a
skater you could still win a prize just for having fun, it also shows the council that there is a need for good skate facilities in Southampton, so if you skate, ENTER! there are loads of prizes up for grabs so start getting
your groups together!....

Post a comment on here or e mail andy@reskue.co.uk  to tell us BEFORE hand (by FRIDAY 3rd) who is in your group.

ANYONE can enter, any age, any level of skating - the only stipulation is that you ride a skateboard!

So to clarify the weekend is at the beginning of APRIL so it’s only a few weeks away, 4th and 5th.....

You can start filming stuff from midnight on Friday if you wish (Saturday morning) and film up until midnight on Sunday - Any filming done after this time is cheating!....

Then your filmer needs to hand in the finished edit by the close of business at 5.00pm on Sunday 12th
of April.

Please bear in mind you need to bring it in  as
full quality digital video file UNCOMPRESSED on DVD, SO AS A FULL QUALITY avi OR dv - E Mails won’t be accepted - DO NOT make it with a dvd menu etc as I only have to spend hours ripping them! I will compress them and put them on the web so they are all the same quality - this is the fairest way.

Please don't post your vid up on a personal youtube etc before we have all the vids up.....

Voting will be from Monday 13th until midnight on Friday 17th April.....

We will then be giving out prizes at 6.30pm on Saturday 18th April, so groups should meet at the shop then if they can.....

While
it is up to you where and what you skate, it would be good to go to at
least a few parks as well as some street, if you film a whole part at
just your local park it will be uninspiring and boring, so try and mix
it up a bit with lots of different spots/parks, as long as the spots
are in Southampton and surrounding areas thats fine,  so Romsey for example is fine.....

The
edits should be kept short and sweet, just put in your best stuff, 3 or
4 mins is a good guide to how long an edit should be, maybe one or two songs worth.....

While
the comp is open to any skateboarders you do need to film everything
around the city of Southampton, hand the footage into the shop, and
come to the shop for prizegiving, so you need to be local really!....

While
some prizes will come down to voting the final say will lie with Andy @
Reskue especially if voting seems suspect, so don’t get your nan to
vote for you 500 times, we’ll know!....

If you have any other questions then leave us a comment, and good luck!

To recap this is what you have to do:

Name your group and let me know who is in it by FRI 3rd

Skate anytime within SAT 4th and SUN 5th

Hand in the finished edit by 5.00pm SUN 12th

And thats it!

Cameras are not provided!

Computers are not provided!

IF it rains for more than half the weekend then we will have it the next weekend instead, and everything will be pushed back a week, footage you have already filmed will still count.

YOU CANNOT HAVE MORE THAN FIVE IN A TEAM! It would be unfair on everyone else.

please try and skate street and parks!

SOME ADVICE! Lots of people tried to film hard stuff in the first day and pulled out the comp when they didn't get much footage, try and film a bunch of stuff you know you can do on the Saturday, then try harder stuff on the Sunday, this will give you footage to fall back on! easy tricks that are filmed well can still look good! Get some infromation on different filming techniques from skate vids, try not to film everything the same way!

GET YOUR GROUPS IN!

Current mood:  thankful
Since the shop has opened we have given away over 200 DVD's and over 2000 stickers, loads of decks, trucks, wheels, tee shirts and hoods as prizes for comps or to local skaters we sponsor, and our prices are some of the lowest around (we check other shops every day!) we always try to get sale hardware in so you have an alternative to spending out on the latest stuff (Rictas for a tenner!) but some people still seem to think they are getting a rough deal.

I would like to think people understand that we can't give discount to people just because we know them! you wouldn't expect discount in any other shop, or at a pub just because its your local, the prices are there for a reason and it would basically be unfair on others giving preferential treatment.

HOWEVER we here at Reskue understand that some people stay faithful to the shop and get all their skate stuff from us, and getting Reskue products like tees and hoods to represent the shop is really appreciated, you guys deserve to get something back so we are introducing the Reskue points card.

Working in exactly the same way as a Tesco or Boots card you get points on everything you spend and can redeem them at any time to get free stuff or money off, we'll also be able to see who is spending a bunch and will be able to offer bigger discounts to those people.

As well as this card holders will always get 20% off the Reskue softgoods, so the shop tees and hoods and stuff like that.

To get a Reskue points card we just need your Name, Address and Postcode, and you need to regularly shop at Reskue! You have to pick your card up from the shop so either come in the shop and tell me you want one or E mail me with those details to andy@reskue.co.uk or on here with details of something you've bought!

And to the people that get discounts or use friends staff discounts at other shops, you carry on while you can! because they are not making any money on that stuff and it just means your fleecing the company so go for it! but ask yourself when was the last time they gave you free stickers or DVD's? or let you sit about on a comfy sofa watching the latest DVD's? or got you tickets to premiers? only with Reskue!

Thanks, Tosh
