Kaleidoscope (definition): A continually shifting, interwoven, & intertwining pattern of sights and/or sounds.
True to her namesake, DJ Kaleidoscope (Kim Bell) creates a dark audio ambiance, every time she steps up to the decks! As the resident DJ of club Exile's weekly INDUSTRIAL XCESS in Louisville, KY, she weaves an eccentric mix of EBM, dark wave, industrial, aggrotech, noise, synthpop, and more!
Kim Bell's road to the DJ booth began in 2003, when she helped launch Louisville, KY's first weekly goth/industrial night at the Main Street Lounge. As the years progressed, Kim continually promoted the local scene, and developed a close friendship with DJ Sorrow-Vomit (Matt Kokas). Noticing her passion for the genre, Sorrow-Vomit began training Kim to DJ.
In early 2006, Kim Bell made her official club-debut as DJ Kaleidoscope, alongside DJ's Sorrow-Vomit and Motuvius. The three DJ's were/are collectively known as The TRIAD.
Over the past two years, DJ Kaleidoscope has opened for touring bands including: the Azoic, Voltaire, Mercurine, Rachael's Surrender, Slick Idiot, More Machine than Man, Terrorfakt, the Echoing Green, Leiahdorus, Faith and the Muse, the Red King, Fraqtured Sound, Attrition, High Blue Star, and Tonikom. She has formally appeared and DJ'd at events hosted by organizations such as Camel Cigarettes, Art Sanctuary, Troma Films, and the University of Louisville. She has "shared the booth" with renowned talent, including DJ Scandy [Andy LaPlagua/Combichrist], DJ Sebastian R. Komor (Icon of Coil), DJ Copper Top, DJ Spider, DJ Carlos D [Interpol], amongst others. Additionally, Kaleidoscope has been active on the "convention circuit" ------ alongside her TRIAD partners, Kaleidoscope presented a full multimedia panel-discussion on the past, present & future of gothic music at Dragon*Con 2006 (one of the United State's most popular annual sci-fi/fantasy conventions); Kaleidoscope also guest DJ'd at Convergence 13 (the United State's largest goth/industrial convention).
Today, Kaleidoscope continues to spin [as resident DJ] at Louisville's weekly industrial night, now held at club EXILE. A true disciple of the genre, she continues to refine her mixing techniques, while passionately delving into the true underground of this musical style. DJ Kaleidoscope, true to her moniker, strives to present a collage of the genre's past, present, future……melding the fan favorites with the up-and-coming, clearly concentrating to expose the "obscurities" which do not typically receive club-play in the United States.
