Guess what?  We're having a CD release party!  Except that we're not releasing physical CDs this time...if ya want the songs you'll have to download them online.  There are several different options:  our favorite is if you purchase a download card from us at the show...all of the money goes directly to madahoochi, and you get a choice of download formats....mp3, wav, flac, avi....your choice!  Groovy!  You can also bring a flash drive with you and we'll load up nice high quality song files directly onto it.  Or, you can just download good ole mp3s onto your home computer.  We are really proud of these songs and hope you dig them too!  Our master engineer/producer, Nate Hershey (of the Dogtown Allstars) did a bang up job at Phat Buddha studios.  We can't wait to get back into the studio and start recording more tunes....especially my favorite new song, The Crazier Life Is.  I'll let you in on a secret...download our songs...tell your pals about our new EP...tell them to download it...and we'll be able to start recording stat!

Make sure to come early to the release show so you don't miss HEATBOX, who is one of my favorite artists.  He is completely captivating, and all he comes with is himself, his voice, a vocal processor, and a loop machine.  It's amazing!  He will be your new favorite artist too!  He's also releasing his new CD, "System", which includes a groovy ninja video game he programmed himself.

Jaik Willis from Chicago also will play some acoustic funk.  Show starts at 9pm, and costs $5.  21+

Howdy.  Here's the updated schedule and info about our Text Slut video shoot Monday night, Sept 28th.

Be in the Cicero's venue by 8pm if possible.  We will first do staged crowd shots in the venue.  Bring a cell phone.  If you have a costume or props, come dressed normally but bring the costumes/props.

around 9 we will rehearse and shoot the final two shots, which is the crowd chasing after the main character.

If you can't get there exactly by 8 no worries...not a problem if you arrive late, although you may not be in the first part.

We will also be filming parts of the actual show, which will start around 10pm.

Groovy!
any questions?  post them here!

Yeah, that's right!  We want you to be in our music video (directed by Spookie Daly!!)!  Parts of the video will be filmed at our last Cicero's show Monday Sept 28th, and we want you!!  Here's what you need to do:

Guys:  come dressed normally but if you have any kind of occupational outfit...scrubs, plumbers outfit, construction worker vest, ect, bring it with you.  Also, if you want, bring a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates, a balloon, or anything else you might bring to a blind date to try to impress a girl.  Again, we may not use these props, but it will be good to have a variety of stuff to choose from.  What better excuse to buy chocolate??? :)

Gals:  Just come looking hot.

Doors will open at 8:30pm.  The shooting schedule is still to be determined and we will post all schedule announcements to this blog and our facebook blog, so make sure you check throughout the week to stay up to date on times and such.  We'll probably have to do a bunch of takes of Txt Slut so I hope you like the song!!  We'll also try to answer any questions.

take care and see you there!!

Yes, it's true, for real this time.  We've got two more Monday night shows (tonight included) and we hope you'll come celebrate the end of our seven years rocking out Monday nights!  Be sure to check our other blog for details about our last show, Sept 28th including the filming of our Txt Slut video.

We're really going to miss our Monday shows...we've never felt more comfortable, and therefore more willing, to explore musically at any other place other than our home venue, Cicero's.  The staff there have become our friends, as well as a major portion of the crowd...we've probably met most of the people we know now at a Cicero's show somewhere along the way.  Our favorite shows have been at Cicero's, our favorite crowds have been at Cicero's, and of course our favorite beers are at Cicero's!  Since next week's show might be a little distracted with the video shoot, make sure you come down tonight for a serious night of pure rock!!!  We may even have a new song for you!

Don't worry about Mondays though...those of you who still seek out awesome music on Monday nights won't be dissapointed....Beto and Triple Jam are planning on filling Monday nights with the best local, regional, and just-traveling-through bands this town has to offer.  Sometimes it will involve us in different incarnations, and sometimes it will be a myriad of bands.  But it will always be good.  Check out the Triple Jam site to see who will be where.  http://triplejam.com

Goodbye Cicero's, and we will miss you.  Don't worry, Madahoochi will still rock around St Louis every month or so...we've got our EP Release Party @ the Rock House in Oct and a halloween show Oct 30th @ The Library....rock on.

A long time ago I wrote these complete bullshit bios for the band members (there's even one for Mudda, the old naked guy on the cover of "Movin' On")....we finally had to take them off the website because too many people thought they were true.  Well, here they are again for your reading enjoyment!

Joe Winze, drums:  Joe Winze's first band experience was a duet kitchen pan project with
twin Jessica at the age of 10.  The duo went on to play their most famous concert at the
Willis Arts Festival in downtown Detroit to a group of over four hundred people.
Recognized for his intense rhythmic intuition at a sly age of 11, Joe studied with then
Astian Grooves leader Aru, who later brought Joe into the group at age 14.  Joe played
with Astian Grooves for four years until he sought a degree in jazz percussion at
Ambrose College in Hillside, CT.  Later he traveled to the Ivory Coast and South Africa,
where he studied native drumming with  Master Tu.  He joined and toured with Zambia
for two years, playing a European and brief US tour.  It was on that tour in Utah where
he met future Madahoochi guitarist Scott Rockwood and future lead singer Chad Allen at
the Cliff Dwellers Festival, where the three shared their first musical experience playing
with Blues veteran Eli Jones of the Starry Cats.  Later, upon returning to the US, Joe
again played with sister Jessica and guitarist Keith Wilson in a violin/guitar/percussion
trio called Ruth Warbler, which went on to record two albums, "In The Sea" and
"Loopholes".  After moving to St Louis, Joe joined Madahoochi as the last member of the
current line up.

Beto Moreno, bass guitar:  Beto's guitar studies began at age thirteen, when he played
with Colorodo's youngest urban/Mexican American thrash band, Parafrijoles.  The band
toured exstensively throughout the western US and Mexico, and were the youngest band
to be featured on Dick Clark's American Bandstand since The Jackson Five.  Parafrijoles
later appeared in the bigscreen classic, "Free Always".  After the breakup of Parafrijoles, Beto turned to the bassoon, studying with former Manhattan Symphony Orchestra bassonist Clarence Pall.  Later, Beto played bassoon, guitar and bass in a Latin pop band, Juxta, which toured with the female vocal ensemble Dark October.  It was then when Beto met Shawn Hartung, a member of Dark October, and persuaded her to join Juxta on their Eastern European tour.  The two collaborated on a second project, the album "Gentra", a Windman Hill Meditation Series release.  Beto went on to play in the Boston, MA area with several bands, including Neptune Alliance and BearWater.  Beto met Scott Rockwood and Chad Allen as they were forming Madahoochi, and became the third member.

Chad Allen, lead vocals:  Chad began singing at age 6 when he appeared on the Tonight
Show with his father Niel Allen, of Dextrose Folley fame.  Chad then made regular
appearances on the Tonight Show, second only in number to Ed McMahon.  In his teens,
Chad began singing with the original disco troupe The Squires, where he also studied
guitar with band member Alex Dixon.  Leaving the band to tour as a backup singer with
Rick Jermaine, Chad met Jermaine's guitarist Scott Rockwood and began a
singer/songwriter duet act, Simplify.  With Rick's unfortunate death, Chad and Scott
remained together as Simplify until joining Guarantala, a symphonic rock group which
recorded four albums and two live releases.  Madahoochi is the latest project for the duo.

Scott Rockwood, lead guitar:  Scott first studied guitar with his Aunt Rhody, who had
once been a member of the Irish troupe "CenterSquare".  Classical guitar studies took
Scott to Dellins University, where he entered and completed a degree in guitar
performance by the age of 18.  Scott then relocated to Italy, where he paired up with
classical guitarist Erich Kole, also of Dellins, with an apex performance for the Chinese
ambassador at the Cellee Arts Festival in rural Lazio, Italy.  The Festival earned an
invitation from China for the duo, who, at that time, were only the third US born artists to
be invited into the country.  Scott and Erich remained in China for two years, touring and
studying with Chinese gandular master Ho Zhang.  Upon returning to the US, Scott sat in
recording sessions for such artists as Leo Trotwiel, Sam Dennis, The Braymares, Todd
Steele and the Man-Hop Pop Orchestra, Christina Pewell, and the Top Ten recording
group Lazarus.  Scott then joined Rick Jermaine's touring band, where he met Chad Allen
to form Simplify.  Scott sees his current project, Madahoochi, as a "precisely culled
formation of the senses".

Shawn Hartung, keyboards:  Shawn's first instrument was her grandmother's pump organ,
which she played for family and friends until taken as a student by University of
Jacksonville professor William Traut.  There she met piano prodigy Jasper, who she
played with in a duel piano lounge act throughout the greater Jacksonville metropolitan
area.  Recognized for their intense harmony and lighthearted competitive banter, the two
were chosen to play on episode 74 of the hit TV series "Jake's Song", as the dueling
homeless pianists in Jake's restaurant.  That brought the two into the national spotlight, and they appeared on Public Televisions' "Art On Command", the only act to be asked to appear in
two different episodes.  Later Shawn began to take up the accordion, playing and singing in the klezmer band Katsula before joining the eight voice women's vocal ensemble Dark October, where she was responsible for the group's synthesizer drenched ambient backdrop.  Upon meeting Beto Moreno while touring with Dark October, she left the group to play keys for Juxta for a brief European tour.  She went on the play with Juxta singer Alfonse Chan, and appears on several of his solo albums.  She was brought into Madahoochi by former Juxta bassonist Beto Moreno, and now resides happily with the band in St Louis.

Mudda, stock market analysis:  Mudda was born in 1904, the son of two struggling Polish immigrant cartoons.  He first found fame at less than a year old, when he became the mascot for the  Irish dancing group "CenterSquare" at the 1904 World's Fair.  Mudda's fame as a mascot rose until a dashing blow when Mudda failed as the  new "Fighting Ilini" of Notre Dame.  Following, Mudda turned to turpetine and lead paint to drown his sorrows until a lucky stock market break following the crash of 1929.  Apparently Mudda had used his savings to buy every stock in the world for less than $4, and now is, next to Mickey and Pikachu, the third most wealthy drawn figure in the United States.  Currently Mudda is being considered by Coke for their Eastern European market, where Mudda has risen to star status.

IT IS FREAKING COLD!!!!

You remember snow, right? Yup. Snow. Lots of snow.

Our first night out the temps hit -2. Yup. -2.

Good thing that rocking out keeps you warm. Tuesday night at JB's Speakeasy was good times....Moon Boot Posse opened the night with some sweet reggae jamming, and the beer flowed like...beer.

Last night at the Cabooze realized Joe's lifelong dream, plus one....to play a Big Wu tune at the Cabooze....with Al from the Wu...the folks in Minneapolis know how to party on a Wednesday night, and Down Lo of course threw down. Looking forward to tonight in Eau Claire, again with Down Lo...aw yeah.

Getting ready to fill our bellies with Minneapolis' finest cuisine....the local diner. Sweet.

Damn it's cold. You guys from StL...I hope you are enjoying your nice balmy 50 degree weather. You better be outside picnicing and stuff...or else we will get jiggy on your asses. Yeah.

Good news everyone!  Madahoochi was selected as the winners of the SOCO Tasty Band competition!!  Sweetness!  This means we've received a recording package from Phat Buddha recording studios, which I am super excited about...some of the best equipment in the city run by some of the best engineers...  Woo hoo!  So....with this recording time you can look forward to studio versions of "Real Time", "Txt Slut" and "Johnny Walker", which will be released on iTunes and other digital distribution points.  Rawk.

And I can't end this blog without talking about the Illphonics, the other semi-finalist in the Tasty Band contest.  You guys have to check them out.   They are super tight, polished musicians, and if you like groovy hip-hop funk and socially conscious rap (and who doesn't?)....then you must see a live Illphonics show.  They are great and you will love them.  And if you don't....Joe will kiss a pig.

laters,
-Team Hooch

p.s. tonight marks the sixth show in a row for us.....seven if you count the two measures we were allowed to play at Millstock before the fuzz shut us down....so if you want to experience the musical equivalent of an end-of-semester-72-hour-studying-binge-on-no-sleep then I suggest coming to Cicero's tonight....
