Neon was one of the most active band in 80's italian new wave time, marking italian rock history.
The band, which was born first as a duo at the end of the 70's in Florence's undeground culture, soon stands out for its Kraftwerk and new wave icons' synth, which made their style a unique 80's cultural dream's specimen, together with newromantic and post punk tought of bands like Joy Division, Ultravox and Human League.
In 1980, the band got off to an electronic start with the single "Information of death", and later, through several line up changes, it achieves to synthetize a mix of obsessive electro sounds, obscure athmospheres and quite original pop melodies which take shapes in later works like "Tapes of darkness" (1981), "Obsession" (1981), "My blues is you" (1983), "Dark Age" (1984); in 1985 "Rituals" sanctioned Neon as the best italian new wave band of that year.
Excellent studio productions and intense live activities has brought Neon to be one of the few incons belonging to alternative 80's italian music scene.
Recently a cd box containing Neon's first vynil works has reissued, and it allowed audience to appreciate more and more quartet's emotional fund, innovative power and mainly showed its heritage into the international electro - wave scene.

The story began in Florence-Italy on 1979 when Marcello Michelotti and Stefano Fuochi played as NEON at the Banana Moon Club, two strange looking guys with a strange looking show in a strange looking place, the sound was purely electronic, lot of rythms noises and tapes manipulations supported by an extensive use of visual arts during live acts, electronic punk and ingenuity. sometimes irritating often interesting (occasionally supported live by a sax player ); annual live report: 2 shows

La storia del rock Italiano passa da qui.
Dopo 20 anni di assenza dalle scene, tornano ad esibirsi i Neon con la line up originale.
I Neon, tra i più attivi gruppi della new wave tricolore degli anni '80, nascono come duo nel 1978 a Firenze, una città in subbuglio, in preda ai fermenti della sottocultura giovanile che scaturiva dai circuiti dell'underground locale.
In prima linea c'erano i Neon di Marcello Michelotti, l'avanguardia della nouvelle vague Fiorentina, la vera sferzata di novità nello scenario di allora, senza nulla togliere alle nuove rivelazioni cittadine come Diaframma, Moda, Litfiba. Il loro synth ereditato dai Kratfwerk e dalle icone new wave si univa al pensiero neoromantico e post punk di band come Joy Division, Ultravox, Human League.
Lo stile dei Neon era e rimane unico rappresentante di quel sogno culturale dei primi anni '80 tutto Europeo che parlava al nostro sentire come un miraggio di luce-speranza capace di constatare le ombre dell'età oscura.
Dopo un inizio esclusivamente elettronico con il singolo "Information of Death" del 1980, attraverso numerosi cambi di formazione arrivano a sintetizzare una miscela di ossessività elettro, atmosfere oscure e melodie pop piuttosto originali che prendono forma nei successivi lavori "Tapes of Darkness" (1981), "Obsession" (1982), "My Blues is You" (1983), "Dark Age" (1984) e sopratutto il maturo "Rituals" del 1985.
L'eccellente produzione in studio, unita ad un'intensa attività live, contribuisce a fare dei Neon una delle poche icone della musica alternativa Italiana degli anni '80.
Recentemente l'uscita di un cofanetto contenente la ristampa su cd dei loro primi lavori vinilici ha permesso di apprezzarne ancora di più la indubbia carica emotiva e forza innovatrice del qurtetto e sopratutto la loro eredità sul panorama electro-wave internazionale!

La storia inizia a Firenze nel 1979 quando Marcello Michelotti e Stefano Fuochi, suonano come Neon al Banana Moon Club, due personaggi strani, ccon uno spettacolo strano, in un posto strano, un suono puramente elettronico con un sacco di rumori ritmati affiancati da un uso massiccio di arte visiva, punk elettronico ed ingenuità, a volte irritante, spesso interessante.

Diventando famosi al sorgere della new wave. Alla fine dell'anno Stefano Fuochi abbandona i Neon.

Neon war eine der aktivsten Bands der italienischen New Wave Szene der 1980er Jahre und hat die italienische Rock-Geschichte maßgeblich geprägt.
Die Band wurde Ende der 1970er Jahre in der Florentiner Subkultur zunächst als Duo geboren und schell durch ihre an Kraftwerk und anderen New Wave Ikonen orientierten Synthsounds bekannt. Ihr einzigartiger Stil drückt einen kulturellen Traum der 1980er Jahre aus, der sie zusammen mit Bands der Post Punk und New Romantic Ära wie Joy Division, Ultravox und The Human League zu Hauptvertretern dieser Zeit macht.
1980 gelang der Band mit der Single "Information of Death" ein elektronischer Anfang. Nach vielen Line up Wechseln gelang es ihnen eine Mischung von obzessiven Elektroklängen, dunklen Atmosphären und einzigartigen Pop Melodien zu erzeugen. Dieser Stil nahm dann in den nächsten Arbeiten wie "Tapes of darkness" (1981), "Obsession" (1981), "My blues is you" (1983) und "Dark Age" (1984) deutliche Gestalt an.
1985 wurde Neon für "Rituals" zur besten italienischen New Wave Band des Jahres gewählt.
Hervorragende Studioproduktionen und intensive Live-Tätigkeit ließen Neon zu einer der wenigen Ikonen der alternativen italienischen Musik Szene der 1980er Jahre werden.
Kürzlich ist eine CD-Box mit Neons ersten Vinyl-Arbeiten erschienen, die es der Hörerschaft ermöglicht die emotionale Tiefe und die innovative Kraft des Quartetts kennen und wertschätzen zu lernen. Insbesondere aber zeigt ihre Musik allenorts das Weiterleben der Band in der internationalen Elektro Wave Szene.
