The RFT has released it's "BEST OF" yearly edition, this year we take home the:

Best Place to Take Out-of-Town Guests

Readers' Choice: City Museum
There's no shortage of splendid, tourist-ready fun to be had in St. Louis, but the hands-down best place for mind-blowing, open-jawed joy is the City Museum. The place is prime for both the kid-having and the kid-shunning, a weird and blissfully eclectic concoction of found art, archeological artifacts, a circus, caves and an aquarium full of sloths and crocodiles and a coati — yeah, but what is it? It's a museum in the sense that one floor houses old building façades and doorknobs (you're thinking, "a doorknob display? How is that fun?" but then you stare at the intricate detail and craftsmanship of our earlier centuries and realize that they're quite pretty), gargoyles and photography. For an extra six bucks you can visit the indoor aquarium and see a host of aquatic, semi-aquatic and straight-ahead landlubbing animals in close proximity. The exterior of the building — well, if you've already been there, you know. It's a fantastic miasma of twisted metal, abandoned planes, a crane, slides, stone towers and other architectural curiosities connected by an ingenious system of catwalks and staircases. If that's not enough, you can drive a school bus off a building. No, seriously: For an extra five bucks, take the elevator to the roof and check out the giant mantis, the rope swing, the ten-story slide, the school bus that (very securely) teeters off the corner of the twelve-story former St. Louis Title Company and Big Eli: a four-stories-high Ferris wheel.

Diane Toroian Keaggy, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, got first hand info from the one and only Bob Cassilly on City Museum's new rooftop attraction. Along with the article, a special rooftop video tour, conducted by Bob himself, was created.

What: Circus Day Foundation's St. Louis Arches Reuniting with Galilee Circus
When: Aug. 1-12, 2008
Where: Circus Day Foundation at City Museum

In a time when no one else seems to find a true road map for peace in the Middle East, there are some amazing children who have found a way.

Last year, the Galilee Circus, a Jewish/Arab youth circus from Northern Israel enchanted more than 2,000 people in Israel with their abilities to juggle, perform balancing acts and fly through the air. This year, they'll reunite with the St. Louis Arches, students from the Circus Foundation, a circus school based inside of City Museum. The combined troupes, with members of both the Galilee Circus and the Circus Foundation, is known as the Galilee Arches.

The Galilee Arches and St. Louis Arches will team up to appear at City Museum's Circus Day Foundations.

Call 314-226-3633 or visit www.circusday.org for more information.

YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS CAN HELP by providing food donations for this event. So far, great establishments like Whole Foods Market and The Original Soupman (originalsoupman.com) have contributed to this unique cause. Please step up and show these kids you're in their corner.

No juggling skills necessary—just some good food.

City Museum Thank You

Some of you may remember watching the all-too-dramatic commercials on a local newschannel suggesting that City Museum was going to close. Those rumors weren't true then, and they aren't true now.

City Museum was worried that our visitors would be duped—but they weren't. Our supporters came out in hoards. The blog on the local television station was bombarded with statements of support. A Facebook group to save City Museum was created—and is still multiplying. The group currently boasts over 8,500+ members. CM is blown away by the support, and we want to thank you.

On May 21st, City Museum will host the "Fight for Your Right to Slide" party. This evening will be filled with food, drinks, and live music--for all of our biggest fans.

Again, we at City Museum could not be more thankful for your support and we hope to see you right here for years to come.
