Revolution (www.kcrevolution.org) has invited artists and authors to engage the theme of "Water in the Wilderness" over the summer, and share their reflections and artistic responses as a way of launching a special Revolution discussion series. The gallery will open Friday, August 8th. Revolution will be hosting a series of discussions at 11:00am on August 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st. The discussions will center around solutions to the problem of getting potable water to children in developing countries and to the homeless here in Kansas City. Almost 4,000 children in the developing world die EVERY DAY from water-bourne diseases. The average homeless person in KC has a hard time finding a public drinking fountain or restroom. Revolution invites anyone who is interested to join in these discussions. Scarlett Garnet has included a jewelry series for the gallery opening . All art will hang for the month of August. The art is in the church lobby and you can view it during all hours of operation.

The Renegade started in Chicago and is an awesome show with super creative and talented vendors from all over the U.S. It later spread to NY, and now SF. We are SO excited!

Katie will be selling jewelry at the Tower Grove farmer's market today, and in two weeks. Great place to pick up last minute mother's day gifts AND local produce. Stop by and see the new booth!

I just got back from San Fran, where I went on a bead feeding frenzy. Its so exciting to go shopping in a new town for beads. The style of a different city and just the fresh resources get my juices flowing. I could not be pulled away for over 3 HOURS in just two stores. I brought back new chain, random metal shapes, and some huge chunks of rocks with which I can't wait to create. We had to just keep feeding the meter at one location, and I bored my friend into napping at another. I get so sucked in, making new discoveries and listening to a new fun band, Vampire Weekend, on the overhead. I could have shopped for days.

We also went hiking in Yosemite and wine-ing in Sonoma. Talk about inspiring scenery... The view from the top (and bottom) of Yosemite falls is awe-inspiring, and the hundreds of wineries of Sonoma is enough to overwhelm even the most practiced of winos. I will be back for sure.

Scarlett Garnet has so much going on in the coming months, we will try to post our schedule here and on our (soon to be) new site.

Thanks for reading!

Scarlett Garnet will be showing jewelry at the Luminary Center for the Arts at Kingshighway and Reber in St. Louis.
The show is in an awesome and unique location-an old convent! The Luminary has renovated the former nunnery into a hub of artistic creation. The old nun dorm rooms are now private artists studios, the old prayer rooms are now gathering spaces for young writers, and the former chapel is the site of this weekend’s "Go Fly a Kite" event. Fun-draising for their developing coffee house, the Luminarians have planned a Cake Walk, Bake Sale, and Lollipop tree, along with a sale of several of the top local designers’ wares. In attendance will also be SG’s friends Miriam Coffey (felted purses and jewelry), Squashed by Les (funky hats and clothes), and many more.
Stop by anytime from 2-10 on Saturday, or 1-4 on Sunday to see this interesting venue, pick up some fun spring fashions, and try your luck at the cake walk. What a perfect start to Spring!

Scarlett Garnet has been busy creating and capturing their work on film. Two recent photo shoots in Kansas City have given us the opportunity to work with two wonderful photographers.

Becca Spears of Wirken Photography (wirkenphoto.com), captured our wedding line paired with the bridal dress designs of Janay-A ( http://www.myspace.com/abstractpretty). The scene was a hauntingly beautiful old house with creaky floors, mysterious murals, and dark woodwork all lit through dusty curtains. Becca disappeared into one of the many rooms of the old house with our jewelry and models and came back with amazing photographs! Her innate ability to harness the natural lighting and personality of people made for truly breathtaking images. We would like to thank Becca wholeheartedly for her time and expertise in photographing our work. Her belief in us and the way that she sees our work is inspiration for us on so many levels. We would also like to thank Ann Grace for her valuable input and assistance to Becca, along with our cooperative, patient, and beautiful models, Diedra, Kelly, and Carolyne. You guys rock! The photos from this session are posted in our myspace albums (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=149069366&albumId=1243730), and also at Becca's photo blog at http://beccasphotoblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/scarlett-garnet-and-janay-handmade.html

That evening, we descended on Mercy Seat Tattoo studio to showcase the darker side of Scarlett Garnet. Ann Grace took the reigns shooting in the unique lobby of the parlor. Skulls lined the window sill, creepy paintings stared down, and secret passage ways gave way to inner chambers. Scarlett Garnet invited their many male adoring fans to model our new men's line of jewelry. The boys brought their creativity, supplying such interesting props as a violin, a curly mustache, a realistic cap gun, and their charming smiles. Ann, inspired by the dark nature of the Mercy Seat and the ardor of the young men, pulled in close for awesome detailed shots. We would like to thank Ann (http://anngrace.org) for her talent and resolve in capturing the dark side of Scarlett Garnet. Much thanks to Chet Duvenci of Mercy Seat (mercyseattattoo.com) for allowing us to invade his studio. We would also like to thank our fabulous models who helped to make the night a success; Janay, Jules, Kevin, Shawn, Ben, Dustin and Jason. We will let you know when these photos are posted!

Wirken Photo is hosting an open house for Scarlett Garnet, Janay-A and possibly some additional wedding vendors, at their studio on February 7. Starting at 5:30 pm, please join us at 6201 Oak St. in Brookside to see these awesome dresses and jewelry first hand, and pick up something for your Valentine.

Thanks again to everyone who helped on January 14. We really appreciate the time that everyone took to be a part of this. We feel so lucky to have such great friends and contacts. Thank YOU!
