Right we know it’s a week early but there was nowhere that would let us put on a Halloween show after last years fiasco with Gary Glitter, the ladyboy, Skeletor, Marcel Marceau and dirty Joao, so we tricked the lovely folks at Bethnal Green Workingmens Club into thinking we were doing a charity event. But the beavers don’t care and we don’t neither, so we’ve just gone and got the best Beaver line-up ever, and it‘s nearly all boys! I know we say that every time but this really is gonna be the best Beaver ever…

Obviously, primo gobshites The Fabulous Penetrators will be agitating the boys and turning the girls off with their nonsense. I mean, they’re grown men for fucks sake, somebody really ought to just give them a proper record deal, and a world tour just to get them out of our sight for a few months.

Well great googa mooga and gamma gamma goochie, beaver season reaches a sweaty crescendo this August as the hot slop that is Saturday Night Beaver returns to Bethnal Green Workingmens Club for it’s summer workout.

Suburbanite sausage sizzlers, The Fabulous Penetrators provide the big mess, bad dress and aural distress, delighting the boys and scaring the girls. Our lead guitarist Crispin got in a fight with a tree last week and broke his hand so we may be shit.

Thee Hangee V, our very special guests all the way from sunny Sardinia actually have a girl in the band! And she’s very pretty! These Mediterranean Munsters make a damn fine fuzzy fackin racket and really know how to work an organ.

Our next band may not know much about organs but more than make up for that with their knowledge of cock. Rising from the ashes of the Tokyo Dragons, we don’t know what The Sabretooth Tiger Band sound like but they’ve supported Nashville Pussy so who fuckin’ cares! But we believe there’s a bit of a power-pop, Cheap Trick, Raspberries thing going on. And their singer  Steve kicks my ass at badminton every week!

Our guest Record Player is none other than Mr Go-Go Cage himself, all the way from the 2008 world capital of culture, Liverpool, Carl Combover. His band, Doktor Combover were originally supposed to play but they offered us some bullshit excuse about somebody having babies or something (priorities?) so now we have to make do with him playing different versions of You’ll Never Walk Alone and Ferry Across The Mersey all night. That‘s right, every naturalists favourite club night is getting itself a little longer in the tooth.  And if past Beavers haven’t been enough to drive you ‘dam’ rabid well this one should have you  chewin’ at the tables to contain that fire of love.

Resident  rib-joint roasters The Fabulous Penetrators will be accommodating as always with their delightful mix of sweat, glitter, teenage angst and ear rupturing  r’n’r.

Gentlemen of the night and Beaver favourites, King Salami and The Cumberland Threesome bring their raucous rhythm’n’booze to the meat counter with some hot-slop gravy on the side.

And Dalston’s very own (former soviet republic of) Georgia Peach, Lidl Richard, feared adversary of the rock’n’roll purists, trashes his way through everything once held sacred, God help us.

Cock Jockeys on the evening include king of the grizzlies, Poppa Bear, king of the beatniks, Wildcat Will, king of the saucisson, Eric Ulcer and king of the jungle, monkey man, Go-Go Nuts.

And to bring a ladies touch to the highly strung sausage factory that is Saturday Night Beaver, resident home damsels, The Laundrettas will be making sure everything stays delicately deranged.

VLP: Who are you , where are you from, and why are you fabulous?

"Hello, we are The Fabulous Penetrators and we are based in East
London, though we are all from different countries, which would be
France, England, Portugal, Scotland and Ireland. As  we are quite shy
and unassuming people we’re reluctant to talk about our ‘fabulousness’
but I guess it has something to do with our striking beauty, masterful
musicianship and horse-like stamina."



VLP: You seem to be a worldwide phenomenom, playing a lot of gigs in Europe?

"Well, we were prevented from travelling outside of the UK for a number
of years due to a mixture of visa regulations and  motion sickness, so
it’s nice to finally get a chance to plough fresh pastures if you will.
And also, thanks to the power of the internet, it’s only taken us four
days to become a worldwide phenomenon..."



VLP: Who would your dream guests be to  invite around for a sherbet?

"I suppose a liquorice lady really."



VLP: What phonographic records do you have available?

"We’ve just released our debut single, which is a double B-side 45RPM
Phonograph record on Stag-O-Lee Records out of Germany. We prefer to
deal with Germans as we can then go to Germany, which isn’t half as
horrible a place as The Sun makes it out to be. We’ll be releasing
another 45 in April/May, with an album appearing sometime in the late
Summer."



VLP: What’s the best thing you have ever penetrated?

"Well, probably Glastonbury (5 times in 3 days!), but we also
Penetrated the fuck out of New Years Eve once where we did it 4 times
in one night."



VLP: And the worst?

"We never fail to please. But a strange man I know (vaguely!) in
Ireland got caught making love to a donkey once. He claimed that he was
taking a piss and the donkey backed into him. He also said it wasn’t
very good."



VLP: Where can the general public expect to be penetrated at next?

"Well, we’re off to Porto and Stuttgart for some shows next week. Our
next event in London is at Club Ugly @ The Social on 3rd March. We tend
to play as much as possible, so best is to keep an eye on our Myspace."

Stag-O-Lee Shakedown in Stuttgart – The Next Level

In meinen Ohren habe ich noch immer dieses schrille Pfeifen, bin aber auch selbst schuld, an zwei Tagen hintereinander die Fabulous Penetrators aus nächster Nähe live zu erleben. Wie immer bei den Stag-Stuttgart-Events schon am Freitagabend ganz privat in Peter-Hard-To-Handles Kellerbar, sozusagen als Warm-Up für die eigentliche Party am Samstag. Und natürlich zum allgemeinen Kennenlernen, denn es fanden sich wieder viele Gäste aus der ganzen Republik ein, außerdem hatten wir zwei Bands im Haus – neben den Penetrators auch die schwäbischen Local Heroes Tiger Movement.

Und wie erwartet verstand man sich beim leckeren Tannenzäpfle (ebenso konsensfähiges wie bekömmliches Bier aus dem Schwarzwald) gleich prächtig, Schwaben, Briten und Reingschmeckte, Biertrinker, DJs und Musiker. Im Keller vermischten sich die Sets der Bands und anwesenden Musikern zu explosiven und diesmal zum Teil gehörgangsprengenden Jams (zum Beispiel über ZZ Tops „La Grange“). Nach diesem Abend wussten jedenfalls alle, dass R-man und Peter in Sachen Penetrators nicht zu viel versprochen hatten – die erlebten die Jungs ja kürzlich schon in London.

Bei der ersten Stag-Party in Stuttgart im November waren wir ja noch ein wenig nervös, ob alles klappen würde – vor allem, ob genügend Leute mitfeiern würden. Diesmal hatte ich keine Zweifel: wir hatten die passenden Bands, eine ebensolche (und weit größere) Location, professionelle Werbung und vorab schon so viel positives Feedback von allen Beteiligten, dass eigentlich nichts schief gehen konnte. Tat es dann auch nicht.

Während die Musiker am Samstag beim frühabendlichen Soundcheck waren, fand sich der Inner Circle rechtzeitig zum traditionellen Warmtrinken im Palast der Republik ein, bevor es dann pünktlich um 21 Uhr zum schönen, neuen (aber gekonnt auf Vintage getrimmten) Beat!Club ging. Tatsächlich waren schon einige Leute da, an der souverän und gutgelaunt gemanagten Kasse (vielen Dank an Betti & Claudia!) bildete sich schnell eine wachsende Schlange, und als Tiger Movement gegen zehn Uhr ihren wuchtigen Punk’n’Roll erklingen ließen, hatte sich der Laden schon prächtig gefüllt.

Die Burschen erwiesen sich als perfekter Einheizer für das Folgende. Nach erstem DJ-Wechselspiel von K-Nut und R-man, den Spezialisten für die „First Hour“ (watch out for Spoonful Vo. 23), enterten dann gegen halbzwölf die Pentrators die Bühne - und wie! Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war der Club tatsächlich zum Bersten voll, was die Jungs bei ihrem Deutschland-Debüt zu einem schweißtreibenden Parforceritt durch eigene Songs („The Hump“ gleich als Opener) und energiegeladenen Cover-Versionen („Baby Please Don’t Go“, „Have Love Will Travel“) antrieb. Sänger Liam beeindruckte nicht nur mit seinem von Elvis geliehenen goldenen Jackett, sondern auch mit satanischer Gesichtsbemalung – buchstäblich mit hohem Glamour-Faktor.

Ansonsten zieht auch Gitarrist John die Blicke auf sich, ein Routinier, der sich mit coolem Gepose in Szene setzt und auch schon Erfahrungen als Gitarrist bei Style Council machen durfte. Die Band spielte schnell und laut, trotzdem wurde schon gut getanzt und im Publikum sah man fast nur noch grinsende Gesichter. Und zwar bei allen: den zum Teil weit angereisten Stag-Alumnis, wie auch beim jungen Stuttgarter Party-Volk. Die Mischung haben wir wirklich gut hingekriegt. Axel fiel dann mit scharfem analytischem Blick und Kennermiene auf, dass der Frauenanteil bei 60% lag.

Nach dem rundum begeisternden Set gaben sich die DJs wieder die Platten in die Hand – die Stag-o-Lee Allstars (K-Nut, R-Man, Whirly) wurden dann auch bald von Liam unterstützt, der ein fettes Proficase mit mindestens 200 Seven-Inches dabei hatte – und damit umzugehen wusste. Schließlich erzählte er mir auch, dass er damit in London mehr oder weniger seinen Lebensunterhalt bestreiten würde. Glaubt man ihm aufs Wort. Und es macht einen schon ein wenig stolz, wenn der britische Profi dann exakt unseren Sound trifft, dazu aber statt CDs die originalen 7-Inch-Vinyle auflegt.

Und bei so einem gutgelaunten und motivierten Publikum konnte dann auch nichts mehr schief gehen. Meistens tanzte der ganze, große Laden zu unserem speziellen Spoonful-Sound. Seien es die bewährten Klassiker (diesmal vorwiegend R-mans Domäne) oder auch zu in unserem Kontext Neuem: mein angedrohter Thin Lizzy-Song („Johnny The Fox“) stand JBs „Stone To The Bone“ jedenfalls in nichts nach. Und es war wirklich ein erhebender Anblick, vom leicht erhöhten DJ-Pit auf die Tänzerinnen und Tänzer zu schauen, die sich zu Typen wie George Thorogood & The Destroyers verausgaben.

An der sozialverträglich früh geschlossenen Kasse wurden dann bereits rund 200 zahlende Gäste registriert, über den ganzen Abend waren es insgesamt deutlich mehr, denn fast bis zum Schluss war der Laden sehr gut gefüllt. Nachdem Liam sein Case nach mehreren Zugaben dann doch geschlossen hatte, beschlossen R-man und ich gegen 5 Uhr den Abend mit diesen vier Songs, an die ich mich tatsächlich noch gut erinnern kann: „It’ Raining“ von Irma Thomas, „Satan Is Real“ von den Louvin Brothers, „Wade In The Water“ vom Golden Gate Quartet und schließlich noch einem Tearjerker von Hank Williams („I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry“).

Ich hab dann die erste Stadtbahn nach Hause genommen und mich gefragt, wie R-man die tatsächlich noch komplett anwesenden Penetrators (einzelne in grenzwertigem Zustand) per Taxi heim zu Peter befördert hat. That’s Rock’n’Roll.
