So we played our last gig under the guise of Porpoise on Saturday night. Thanks to everyone who came down. It's was drunken and brilliant. Great atmosphere. People sang and made ridiculous noises. We were charmed by the level of support people have given us over the last few years. Although we never 'made it' or any of that crap, we had a bloody good laugh doing it. Whilst other bands took themselves too seriously we just ploughed along practicing in our room in Cradley Heath. The irony was, the day we left there they put in a brand new PA and better amps! Me and Dave always joked about the Porpoise boxset as i always record every band practice. So here's a little compilation of tunes that we played live and unreleased kind of. They are all lofi so sorry about that. They are enjoyable in a kind of rag tag retospective way. I think there even may be a track with Jad playing bass in there (he was sacked for suggesting we wrote songs about sexy gingerbread men ;0 ). Look out for such hits as 'It's A Party' (the original version is lost with Jon screaming Pop Up pirates), ' Short Sighted Sexy Cyclops' we wrote on request of Lee Pound and 'Winging It' which was the last song we ever wrote with Allan. it was going to sound friggin ace. Very Fugazi yet wasn't to be!
Anyway. Thanks alot to everyone whos helped or played with us. It's been a blast. I've started a band called Drop The Ball with some good buddies you can find our page here:
We are also on twitter if you like that kind of stuff. No music as yet as we are writing, but if you liked Porpoise it'll prob sound good to you. Dave is working on some solo material which is folky yet hip hop ithink, pretty out there kind of music. I think he's even learning violin You'll have to ask him, i'm pretty much sure it'll be ace whatever he does! Dr Jon Behendt now lives in Manchester, Allan and Harp still play in SVR and Gaz is also around, so you can catch us in the pub!
Cheers again!
Pete (and Porpoise)

This was the album we were working on. We were going to totally redo
the vocals and add some extra bits but things don't always work out. As
it stands it's unfinished. But it sounds pretty good none the less. The album is called Foxholes. It was recorded/mixed by Pete Stanley (Allan helped with engineering on the drums) Performed by Allan Oakes, Adam Harper, Dave Halama & Pete Stanley Extra vox on Soldier Bear by Stef Hallama. Lyrics on Soldier Bear By Jon Behrendt. I
can only thank everyone who got behind us, it's pretty gutting to
listen to it as it's quite good. I'm proud of what we did. We learned
alot and made some cool tunes. Download it here: http://www.theplasticashtray.co.uk/poise/foxholes.zipThanks
again for your support. Me and Dave will be ruining the 'hits'
acoustically on Halloween, so we will see you then for one last time. :)

As of today we have decided to call the band Porpoise a day. We've been together in various forms for the last three years. It's been pretty fun to be honest. In fact a blast. Right from the early days of Jon and Gaz, me and Dave playing at Jam Jar. Jon kept getting his finger stuck in the hole of the green mic stand, yeah clever dude haha. ;)
Then up to modern day Poise with Allan and Harper, it's been ace. Some great performances and times. Some times i won't forget anyway! Dave sliding across his back playing a solo at the Mitre. Amazing scenes as Rich babel would say.
Anyway, sorry if anyones upset we are breaking up. We didn't mean to hurt you! ;) I'm pretty sure we'll all appear in various new bands at some point. There's no bad feelings. Things just get to a point where they can't really go any further. And rather than get beat up or upset about it, we are walking away.
As for the mini album, this will be available to download posthumously this week, either later or tomorrow with the vocal takes we got down. I'll just do some final touches to make it sound the best it can and you can remember us that way.
We will be playing Halloween as an acoustic duo as our last bow out anyway. Thanks everyone who's helped us/been in Porpoise like Gaz, Jon, Harp, Allan, Tim, Stef, Bryan, Jonty and everyone who's played gigs with us and sang along. That's what kept us going.
Cheers!

Thanks everyone who made the last one and everyone who gave us the awesome feedback. Meant alot. We all enjoyed playing and it was great to show people what we have been working on, and for people to like it! Thanks also to Gaz who despite leaving the band, still came and watched and enjoyed it. Good on ya mate.
Few things coming up:
Next gig is KFFM live at Katies gig. 31st Aug, it;s a bank holiday monday. I hope you can make it. We will be recording this professionally and putting this out as a digital EP for you to download and put on your computers, ipod and phones (if you are a chav Porpoise fan).
Recording: We should, fingers crossed be starting some kind of recording either this week or next. We are doing this with Tim Parkes again. He's like our George Martin only without the amazing recording studio and expensive gear. We know this one will be our best yet as we have some new bits and bobs to record it with, and also new software/ideas. Also new songs. The working title is 'Wet Sounds' ;)
New Myspace. Yes we've modded it up a bit, lick of paint, lowered it. Bucket seats, the lot. Looks yellowy nice. Go see. When you do you will be treated to a recording of us playing 'Silver Bullet' from last nights practice. This was about our 4th attempt at it and it sounds pretty damn good. Note Dave's pomping.

Thanks everyone who came down to watch us last night. It was probably one of the best gigs we have ever done and made us really excited about our next step which is recording.
Thanks again to everyone who watched/ shouted / sang along, the other bands Gruber and Halliwell. Great night all round. Cheers Tim also and those who stole my beer.

Porpoise can proudly unveil Allan Oakes (also of Science Vs Romance fame) as our new drummer. We have known Allan for many years. I personally remember him for his amazing Yoda bag he used to have when we were students but you may remember him from his kick ass drumming, handsome good looks and endless energy. Allan & Harper play together in a such a way, you wonder if they read each others minds. This excites me.
It also excites Dave muchos. After all the changes and unsettlement. We will lay it to rest and get on with being a band again. See you at the next gig! :)

With muchos regret, we have to announce the departure of our drummer Gaz. He's drummed with us since the beginning, 2 and a half years. He played on everything we have recorded to date. He is a top bloke and we wish him well with any new projects in the future. We had some fucking A times. He will be missed! We are looking forward now to Porpoise V.3 Watch this space.
