Vanishing Kids is finishing up the last couple of songs at Audible Alchemy with Steve Lobdell (Faust, Lords of Falconry)!! We're starting to look for the right label to help with releasing the new album. We're very proud of how the songs are turning out! We've really taken our time with this album and been very picky but it shows in the quality. There will be 10 songs total recorded from the end of '07 -'09. The best 8 will probably comprise the album and the others will end up as b sides or on comps etc. Some of these are already up in unmastered versions on our page. Hoping this will be released in 2010 and we'll be on the road extensively to promote in our veggie fueled van!!!

Here's a new interview from www.maximumink.com :
Vanishing Kids by Mike Huberty June 2009
Keeping alive the torch of post-punk and new-wave, VANISHING KIDS started making noise when guitarist Jason Hartman and vocalist Nikki Nads met in Madison in 2000 and decided to form a band the following year where they could indulge in their love of artists like The Cure and Siouxsie and The Banshees. That path has since taken them to Seattle, back to Madison, and finally back to the West Coast to Portland, Oregon. They’ve achieved a good deal of success along the way, signing a distribution deal with Rykodisc and having industrial pioneer Martin Atkins take the producing reins on one of their albums. This summer, they’ve released a brand new single, “Mother Earth”, and are hitting the road on a tour that will take them through the Western and Midwestern states. According to Nikki, “Mother Earth” is “about how the planet is suffering and we’re ruining it. It’s a seven inch split (ie., a real deal vinyl record, the kind you play on a turntable. VANISHING KIDS releases all their material on LP instead of CDs) with a band called Street Pyramids.“ And when it comes to environmental issues, the band isn’t afraid to put their money where their mouth is. ” It’s our first tour where we’re taking a van that’s converted to veggie oil. We’re trying to make a difference in any way we can. The van also runs on diesel in case we can’t find any in a certain town, but we’re really stoked that we have this option instead of giving money to douchebags who are raping people for gas.“ A few years ago, Nikki and Jason finally settled in Portland as a married couple as well as musical partners. “The scene in Portland is bigger, but for us, we wanted to be submersed in a scene where people were doing edgy, creative things“, she says. ”The music scene is overwhelmingly huge. Everyone plays, it’s a completely different ballgame. Very trendy and hip. Madison is more genuine and that’s something I miss about it. People are checking music out whether you look cool or not. But it helps me trying to keep up with something clever and it’s great to be in a scene that’s really creative. We wanted to be submersed, every night of the week you can go see a killer show. Madison has more of a sense of community, though.“ For new listeners looking for an introduction to the band’s style, Nikki recommends their songs, ”Fire Dances“ and ”Heathen Heart“ (available on their Myspace page). ”We’ve always been that band that is hard for some people to get because we experiment with different genres. And I get excited about ‘Heathen Heart’ because it’s high-energy and really weird. There’s a super-creative double-drum ending that you can just feel in your gut.“ VANISHING KIDS will be making a special homecoming appearance in Madison at the High Noon Saloon on June 14th. ”It’s exciting and moving, a powerhouse lineup”, she says. “The bass tone just hits you right in the gut. Jason is such an intense, shredding guitarist. I try to interact with the crowd and get them into the bubble with me. It’s a tribal, 80’s throwback but take you to a new progressive level as well. It’s entertaining. If you like technicality and people who can really play their instruments, with bass right from a Cure record and a female vocal that’s soulful, you’ll love the show. We’re a nostalgic but forward-thinking band. And if nothing else, you’ll get a kick out of our comraderie!”

here's the link!: http://madison.decider.com/articles/vanishing-kids-at-high-noon-saloon,29212/ By Joel Shanahan!THANKS!!!
Before Portland, Ore., became the well-hyped “land of opportunity” it is today, Madison’s Vanishing Kids packed up their new-wave sensibilities and moved westward in hopes of flourishing in a bigger music scene. And while Vanishing Kids’ 2003 migration to Portland hasn’t quite steered original members (and married couple) Nikki Drohomyreky and Jason Hartman toward indie stardom, they hit the High Noon on Sunday with a new rhythm section and a display of their most realized material to date.
Vanishing Kids plunged into their set with the brooding pop of the unreleased “Fire Dances.” “All you ever do is all you ever know,” Drohomyreky crooned over Hartman’s effects-soaked guitar lines. Hartman's diverse guitar style often shifted between expansive shoegaze-inspired chords and melodic riffing. Hartman's sound even had a tasteful hint of metal to it, which proved surprisingly well-fitted to the quartet's otherwise Cure-sounding explorations. During “Heathen Heart”—a jagged post-punk thunderbolt stuck in the middle of Vanishing Kids’ lush set—bassist Eric Hold punched in and out of Hartman’s progressions with textured chords and melodic walks, while Ben Stoller hammered out pummeling rhythms underneath. While the set was largely comprised of new, unreleased numbers, the quartet is currently touring behind its freshly released 7-inch split with Street Pyramids.
“Ugh, my throat’s sore. I’m a whiny bitch, sorry,” Drohomyreky joked before the group launched into the tribal pulse of “The Light.” Despite fighting throat problems, Drohomyreky managed to switch between three synthesizers, tambourine, a tom drum, and soaring vocal range that would often shift from chilling lows to shaky screeches within a single verse. The foursome closed its set with the brilliantly structured “Mother Earth,” which sonically shifts from a '50s prom ballad to an explosion of synth-fueled goth-rock. Afterwards, Vanishing Kids were met with a huge applause while a visibly winded Drohomyreky thanked the audience with a huge smile on her face. Vanishing Kids' return to Madison may have been overdue, but did more than enough to make our town proud of them.

Check out what the Portland Mercury says about our new 7 " split with our SF bros, STREET PYRAMIDS!!!!
There's a ton of shows to see this weekend, but don't forget about Pop Rocks 3, a "bite sized pop rock mini festival" at the Someday Lounge on Saturday night. Bands like Fast Computers, the Mint Chicks, Umber Sleeping, and Massive Moth will take the stage, but the evening also celebrates the record release of a brand new split 7-inch single from Portland's Vanishing Kids. It's on sweet blue vinyl, and the A-side is a track called "Mother Earth," while the B-side is "Outside" from San Francisco's Street Pyramids, whose ranks include Travis Marks, one-time bassist for Vanishing Kids. It's a really great single; both bands deliver excellent tunes that show them at the peak of their form. Vanishing Kid's "Mother Earth" begins with a placidly low-tech keyboard, with swooping, whispered vocals, then transforms into a 3/4 psychedelic waltz with skittering guitars and martial drums. It's a baroque, lurching, magnificent pop song. On the flipside, Street Pyramids show a bit more restraint with "Outside," a muted groove with watery guitars that evoke some of Talking Heads' less frantic moments. When the drumbeat stops, the momentum builds and things get bright, then the beat kicks back in and the sunglasses are back on. It's a solid groove, a laidback song that's perfect for cruising on a neon-hot summer night. It's an excellent 7-inch, the best split in recent memory I can think of. Right now you can listen to "Mother Earth" on Vanishing Kids' MySpace page, and to "Outside" on Street Pyramids' MySpace page. Then, go to Someday Lounge this Saturday and buy the 7-inch! After tomorrow's show, Vanishing Kids embark on a two-week tour, so wish them well.

Here's a new review of "Skies in your eyes" by our good friend Dave of www.disassembled.org:
This evening I'm writing a review of my favorite album of the last couple years. No it's not current, but I would consider these guys one of the hidden gems of the Portland, hell I'd consider them a hidden gem of the American music underground in general. At first I wanted to shy away from reviewing their material because I know these people personally. But, to be frank and straight forward, as far as the realm of modern rock music is concerned Vanishing Kids in my opinion make music that is a couple steps above and beyond the average, mediocre, cliché, kitche, milktoast college faux art bullshit that most people accept as “cutting edge” indie rock these days.
I'm reviewing Skies in Your Eyes which was released back in 2007, no I don't care if it's out-dated. I think it's a great album that didn't receive a quarter of the notice it deserved. It's hard to know where to begin to describe the sound of this record, ethereal would be a good word to begin with. The musicianship flows with a smooth, confident, stark, yet at times incredibly delicate beauty. The band seamlessly combines challenging progressive guitar/bass riffs, powerful percussion and dark atmospheric keys in very creative yet accessible compositions. The musical complexity of the instrumentation alone would be enough to carry Sky in Your Eyes. Vanishing Kids however, take things to another level topping things off with several layers of delicately melodic, yet assertive vocals that really pull the tapestry of contrasting sounds into focus in a very haunting heartfelt aesthetic.
While the overall aesthetics of this record do have more of a goth influence which bring to mind the likes of the Cure and My Bloody Valentine, the overall creativity and technical merits of this EP would make it an excellent addition to any progressive rock dork's collection. To put things simply this would be a great EP to be able to listen to with a girlfriend around without on wanting to stab out your owns eyes with an ice pick. It's really a rare treat to hear really creative high caliber musicianship combined with a great melodic sensibility in any modern music. Usually I have more to say positive and negative but this is really just great music that I connect with on multiple levels. If you haven't heard it already at least go check out their myspace page fuckwads!
Using Jimmy's time honored scale of 1 to 10 minutes in reference to the auto erotic pleasure produced by this album I'll give 9.5 minutes.
