BEWARE, ALL GOOD CITIZENS....

When my husband Furly and I go out for drinks, we are VERY careful with our consumption.  Friday night, Furly played a show with his one-man band in San Antonio.  I was in the mood to party, so Furly agreed to be the driver.  We arrived at the party around 8:15 and had our first beers.  Around 12:30 we left the party (four hours later).  I had enjoyed seven beers and shot of whisky to Furly's 3 beers, so of course, Furly took the wheel.  I have worked in the bar industry for 6 and a half years now, and know from my official TABC training that 3 beers over the course of four hours is not enough to make even a slight adult male intoxicated under Texas law.

I'll admit that Furly probably was speedig a little, but another driver had passed us on the left moments before the DPS officer pulled him over, and we had mostly stayed with the flow of traffic as far as I could tell.

Officer KOSMALSKI aked why we were driving so fast.  Furly replied, "sorry, lead foot I guess."    Then, "Have you been drinking?"   "About three beers,"  Furly says, "in like three hours, "says I.  "Step out of the vehicle..."

So I'm waiting in the car while Officer KOSMALSKI shines a light in Furly's eyes for at least 2 minutes, maybe three or more.  He swings the flashight across the pavement, and Furly swoons a little.  Now he's being handcuffed and taken to jail.  Officer KOSMALSKI  comes to talk to me now.  He tells me my husband is being arrested for DWI.  I protest that it is not possible that he is intoxicated.

Officer KOSMALKSI is SMILING  at me now.  "Well, he refused to take some of our tests."  Now he tells me that he wants me to take a breathalizer to see if I can drive home.  I had already explained that I had more than twice as much to drink as Furly and that he was my designated driver because I did not feel safe driving.  He SMILES some more..."I really don't want to have to impound your car," and I know that I can't walk to COMAL county from my house, and so does officer KOSMALSKI, so I stare into his cold and evil blue eyes (which literally haunt my nightmares now).  I ask if we are being recorded and he says we are and "promises" me he won't take me to jail, (and i still think he was lying.)

I tell him I won't pass, but I do it anyways, because I'm scared and stuck.....

AND I PASS THE BREATHALIZER AND THEY TELL ME TO DRIVE HOME, BECAUSE THEY ARE TAKING MY DESIGNATED DRIVER TO JAIL!

I ask Officer KOSMALSKI to please explain to me what made him decide my husband was intoxicated in the first place.  He SMILES and says, "I don't have to explain that to you, ma'am."  I start reeling and I say I don't understand how they can take him to jail when he was the "sober" one, and what are his reasons.  Still SMILING, officer KOSMALSKI says, "I'm very busy ma'am, I don't have time to talk to you."  All I had left was, "I'll take up your time in court."

I know this is long, but thankyou for reading it.  There's really even more ofthe story I could vent to you, but honestly it makes me so exhausted with fear and anger that I have to stop now.

But the moral seems to be, BE CAREFUL OUT THERE, BECAUSE THE LAW CAN AND WILL PUNISH YOU JUST FOR STANDING UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS, AND NO ONE IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.  IN THE LAW'S EYES, GUILTY=$, SO WE ARE ALL GUILTY  UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT.

First of all, my band AS SEEN ON TV will be playing this FRIDAY NIGHT.  The show starts at 9pm with Amanda Lepre and we go on right after.  Hoping to see lots of friends there to cheer us on.  This band is going really well and putting together new songs all the time, so you won't want to miss it.

Also, SATURDAY from noon to 2pm, there will be an ART SHOW at the PUBLIC LIBRARY and I am playing for it.  The artists are all checking out books that have inspired them in their work and these will be displayed with the art, plus you can just come and talk to the artists about their work!  Furly will be there along with several other self-taught artists, so it's going to be a great day.

Next Tuesday will be Triple Crown's second SONG SWAP at 9pm with John Vinyard, Robbie Doyen, Cody Richardson, and myself.   If you missed the first one, you might have heard about what a time it was anyways, and I'm hoping to see you there!

Finally, just a bug for you ear: AS SEEN ON TV  will start recording sometime this next week!  Exciting, huh?

So I was talking to Eric Shaw about booking one afternoon at the Triple Crown, and he had this great idea to do a song swap.  Song swap is when a bunch of people hang out on stage together and take turns sharing their songs.  If you're lucky, then there is playful banter and on the fly jams between players.  It can be super fun to watch.

We start coming up with some sogwriters we enjoy, and end up with five of us on the bill... Cody Richardson, Boone Graham, Robbie Doyen, Ryan Lentell and myself.

And I tell you, it WAS fun.... Ryan was having his birthday, Cody was in fine form, Boone was all grins from ear to ear, and I've always had fun playing with Robbie.  If you made it to the show, thanks for coming, and I hope you had half the fun we did!  If you missed it, you're in luck, because we recorded it and you'll be able to hear some of it soon, plus Eric and I are already talking about doing it again in late May.

Afterwards, we were all aglow with inspiration and comraderie.  I can't wait to do it again and look forward to seeing you all next time.

love, molly

Never been to Pet Fest?  Well, let me tell you...

I guess this is the fourth or fifth year of Pet Fest in San Marcos.  This is an awesome annual even that every San Martian should experience, even if you don't have a pet.  It starts at 10am and takes place in the same park by the river as Sight and Sounds of Christmas and the Summer in the Park Concert Series.

First is a sweet little ceremony called "Blessing of the Pets" at 10am that would make St. Francis smile.  Then you can spend the day entertained with tons of stuff for you and your pet.

The most popular pet to bring along, of course, is a dog.  I've seen a miniature pony, big ol lizards, and a snake there, but mostly dogs- ALL KINDS OF DOGS.  I like to just sit on a blanket and check out all the different breeds and their owners while listening to some live music.  (By the way,  I'll be playing at noon that day if you wanna come by.)

There are lots of different booths to visit.  You can get all these crazy organic home baked treats, clothes, beds and toys for your pampered pets.  A lot of these booths are not just selling, but fundraising for different pet rescue projects, so you can help out other animals too!

The Silent Auction goes pretty much all day and always has great stuff in it.       (I got my Muppets Monopoly game there.).  All the stuff is donated and the proceeds go to programs to help people spay and neuter their pets and educate the public.  Prevent a litter... fix your critter!

Don't forget the weiner dog races and the chihuahua races at 2:00!  Enter you're own or just check out this fairly ridiculous contest.  The kids will LOVE it!!!

I don't know the whole schedule for Pet Fest, but you should get the picture.  This is a seriously fun and SO San Martian event.  Don't miss it!

My life is so full right now... I've been playing a lot on my own and with a couple of new bands. As Seen on TV will be the first to hit the scene, as we already have our first show next Thursday at Woody's, and then the next Thursday at the Triple Crown. It's been a long time now since the Hatchets and I am looking forward to a rock show!!! So we've been working pretty hard to get that going. I'd describe it for you, but I'm not good at that, so if you're curious, go to my friends and click on it.
GL-33K is another band in the works, mostly material by Derek Starkey, where I'm playing keys. It's really spacey pop right now, but we might not be done evolving! My friend from way way back, Robin Blackburn, has joined on as our bass player. It's freaking cool to ply with her. She always had this thing for bass players. A few years ago, she realized it wasn't the players, but the bass she loved and finally found "her instrument"-sounds like she's been playing for a decade!
There's another Low Rent Art show coming up too and that's just a ton of work to make happen. I'm trying not to freak out!
Oh yeah, and I'm going to play a Beatles Hoot night at the end of June, which means I have to figure out how to play a bunch of stuff and decide if I should do it with a band or what. Arghhh!! But it is too fun.
And then there is my personal life... with summer coming we're gearing up for lots of fun with the step-kid and hoping to still have time for other things. Thank god we have a kick ass baby sitter!

So, like I said, things are really busy right now. I'm feeling great to have so much though, and just keeping my head above the water.

Much love to all

So I've been having a nice time lately playing plenty of free shows. All last month I played on Thursdays at Woody's South up in Austin. It's cool to get used to a new place, and there it was easy since I found a lot of my friends already frequent it. Turns out, Woody's is right in the neighborhood of some of my favorite folks. So now I'm gonna do some more of the same in April and play the 5th, 12th and 27th (all Thursdays) from 7-9. It's lots of fun and they seem to like me there. Just my kind of people I guess.

I'm also playing a show at the San Marcos Public Library on Wed april 18th. I am really excited about this one. It's a free show from 7 to 8pm. I just think that we have the best Public Library I've ever seen, and I love to be a part of it. I've volunteered for my library off and on since I was a kid, and I suggest anyone who appreciates what a great thing we have do the same. It's easy, just ask what kinds of help they can use. The librarians and clerks are all really neat people too, fun to work with and worth knowing!

And of course, I'll be playing at the awesome Triple Crown in San Marcos, Thursday April 18th from 6-8pm. Still my favorite venue and where I got my "big break"!

Thanks to all who've come out to see me. I'm looking forward to seeing you again.

Hey all ya'll... I'll be playin at Woodys South again tonight at 7pm-9pm, so hope to see some of you there.

It's a pretty hip joint if you ask me. The food is good and the music is usually bad ass.
Look for it on the east bound access road of Ben White, just east of 1st st.

I'll have some free cds to give out when I'm there, (not next week, but the last Two Thursdays in March as well as tonight.)

So I'll see you there...right?
