Here's a look at the Red 5 Comics appearing in the current December issue of Diamond Previews, with titles shipping in February 2008.

Since Red 5 is still a brand new publisher, you'll likely have to pre-order yours in order to get a copy. For your convenience, you can print this form for your local comic shop, or Red 5 Comics can be ordered online.

An anomaly in Italy leads ROBO to a secret Helsingard lair filled with memories of battles past. But behind the "end boss" doors, protectors have awoken. "Tell me it's not cyborgs." "Then I'd have to lie."

..
NEOZOIC 3 (DEC073864)

Red 5 is proud to make its Diamond Previews catalog debut in the August 2007 issue released last week. For those unfamiliar, Previews is a monthly listing of all the merchandise available to your local comic book specialty store, listed a few months in advance to allow each store to pre-order the comics they want to receive.

We were particularly honored to have all three of our debut titles receiving "spotlight" or "feature" placement, a rarity for first-time publishers. Atomic Robo 1 and Neozoic 1 were spotlighted, while Kevin Rubio's Abyss 1 was presented as a feature item. Abyss was also selected as one of only twelve comics to be showcased on Diamond's website.

Since Red 5 Comics is a brand new publisher, stores will likely carry our titles only if customers specifically ask for them. If you would like to support Red 5 Comics, please print out this page and take it to your favorite comic shop in early August and ask them to pre-order your copies. The code in red is the Diamond order number.

    ATOMIC ROBO 1 (AUG073942)
The action-science adventures of Nikola Teslaís automated intelligence machine begin in 1938. Atomic Robo is secretly hired by the U.S. Army to infiltrate the hidden Himalayan mountain base of Baron Heinrich Von Helsingard before he perfects a superweapon for the Nazis.

32 pages, $2.95.
..
ABYSS 1 (AUG073943)
The world's greater super-villain, Abyss, has been killed -- and that's the start of the story? Comedic, dysfunctional and heroic adventures begin when oblivious billionaire heir Eric Hoffman inherits his father's fortune, killer robot and infamous legacy.

32 pages, $2.95.
..
NEOZOIC 1 (AUG073944)
In a gritty sci-fi fantasy world where dinosaurs did not become extinct, humanity lives under the constant threat of giant predators. Protege hunter Lilli Murko faces off against a deadly carnivore while her Donti Squad discovers a strange new reptilian threat to their city.

In NEOZOIC, a debut title from publisher Red 5 Comics, there's nothing special about an 80-foot-long brachiosaurus lumbering past a group of human travelers. It's been going on for millions of years.

However, if those same humans hear the blood-thirty roars of a T-Rex, then it's time to call the professional super-hunters of the Predator Defense League. Armed only with swords, arrows, warrior cunning, ruthless precision and a lifetime of training, these exceptionally skilled athletes keep the citizens of the walled city of Monanti from becoming a dinosaur's breakfast.

NEOZOIC is the creation of Lucasfilm-veteran Paul Ens, writer of the fan-favorite "Star Wars: Evasive Action" series. Like most boys, at an early age Ens was inspired by dinosaurs. "And like most comic writers," he adds, "my childhood influences never left me. Dinosaurs thrilled me first from the pages of science books, then in entertainment like Land of the Lost, Godzilla and Jurassic Park."

..Unlike most dinosaur-themed fiction, where ill-prepared and unsuspecting modern-day humans are thrust together with pre-historic beasts through some contortion in time, NEOZOIC imagines an Earth where the dinosaurs escaped extinction altogether. As a result, the entire history of the human race unfolded side-by-side with the giant beasts, leading to a society greatly different than the one we know today.

While the kinetic pencils of J. Korim and the rich colors of Jessie Lam deliver on the promise of epic evenly-matched human / dino battles like never seen before, the complex heart of NEOZOIC is in its ensemble cast of characters.

"Just as the war with cylons is merely a backdrop for multi-textured drama in Battlestar Galactica," Ens explains, "the epic struggles in NEOZOIC are human conflicts stemming from the different approaches to survival from such formidable natural predators."

NEOZOIC is a bi-monthly comic series debuting October 2007 from Red 5 Comics. Be sure to contact your favorite comic shop and ask them to order your copy from the August issue of Diamond Previews catalog.

RED 5 COMICS PREEMPTIVELY KILLS ABYSS CHARACTER

AWARD-WINNING COMEDY TEAM OF RUBIO AND MARANGON REUNITED

Calgary, AB – July 2, 2007 – The untimely death of a beloved comic book hero can be a shocking event for long-time fans – be it Jason Todd's Robin at the hands of the Joker, Superman's demise facing Doomsday, or the recent assassination of Captain America.

To avoid any similar pain and outcry, Red 5 Comics has decided to kill ABYSS – the lead character of a series by the same name – before the first issue of the comic even comes out this October. Right from the first page, the oblivious billionaire son of ABYSS (Eric Hoffman) is already attempting to move on with his life.

ABYSS is written and created by Kevin Rubio – recipient of Lucasfilm's Star Wars Fan Film Pioneer Award for his acclaimed internet-phenomenon parody film "TROOPS".

"I didn't want the death of ABYSS to be used as some kind of gimmick to boost sales years down the road," Rubio said. "Frankly, none of you have ever heard of ABYSS, so we need that sales gimmick now… before the series gets started. Trust me, you would have really loved to hate him."

ABYSS reunites Rubio with artist Lucas Marangon, partners on the sharply satirical and best-selling Star Wars: Tag and Bink comic series. The duo's reverent whit and colorful exploitation was recently honored by the American Library Association.

Rounding out the team are renowned creator Nick Schley (Abiding Perdition) on inks, colorist Andrew Dalhouse (Garth Ennis' Wormwood), and 2007 Harvey Award nominee letterer, Troy Peteri (Necromancer).

Savvy fans have become wary of publicity deaths and claim that editors plot a path to resurrection in advance. Is ABYSS really going to stay dead? "I'm not going to sit here and say he's completely dead," Rubio replied. "But fans are going to have to wait until page 8 or so before they find out those kind of big answers."

ABYSS begins its four-issue bi-monthly dose of comedic, dysfunctional and heroic adventures this October 2007 from Red 5 Comics. Be sure to contact your favorite comic shop and ask them to order your copy from the August issue of Diamond Previews catalog.

ATOMIC ROBO ACTION-SCIENCE ADVENTURES DEBUT FALL 2007

8-BIT THEATER CREATOR BRINGS PULP SERIES TO RED 5 COMICS

Calgary, AB – June 25, 2007 – RED 5 COMICS is proud to announce that the company's debut title will be ATOMIC ROBO by renowned creator Brian Clevinger and artist Scott Wegener. The first issue is expected on shelves October 10, 2007 and will be available for pre-order this August.

The title follows the larger-than-life exploits of ATOMIC ROBO, an automatic intelligence created by famed inventor Nikola Tesla in 1923. ROBO finds himself entangled in some of the 20th century's most important events – from the Second World War, space race and civil rights movement, to the defense of Earth against all manner of catastrophes.

Clevinger is best known by legions of online fans as the creator of webcomic phenomenon, 8-BIT THEATER, which boasts over 100,000 visitors daily. He is also the author of the acclaimed super-hero comedy novel, NUKLEAR AGE.

"Robots! Monsters! Explosions!" exclaimed Clevinger. "Evil geniuses and the lightning guns that kill them! That's ATOMIC ROBO. We took everything that's fun about pulps and brought it into the modern day."

Series co-creator, Scott Wegener (Killer of Demons), provides the art and distinct look for ATOMIC ROBO. "Robo is very much my speed -- a very retro-pulp-sci-fi-action kind of thing all mashed together into this little robot guy," Wegener said. "Of course, you have to have a World War II stint. Punching Nazis is very popular in comic books."

ATOMIC ROBO is colored by Ronda Pattison (Star Wars: Dark Times). Michael Avon Oeming (Bulletproof Monk, B.P.R.D.) supplies the cover art for the debut issue.

ATOMIC ROBO is a six-issue monthly miniseries, debuting October 10, 2007 from Red 5 Comics. Be sure to contact your favorite comic shop and ask them to order your copy from the August issue of Diamond Previews catalog.

Web Veterans Launch Red 5 Comics

Cinematic-style comic book entertainment to be offered by creative forces behind StarWars.com and ComingSoon.net

..CALGARY, AB -- February 12, 2007 -- The creators of some of the internet's most popular entertainment websites announced today they are launching a new comic publishing company that will introduce its first titles this fall.

Red 5 Comics is the creation of Paul Ens, former director of Lucasfilm's StarWars.com and Lucas Online, and Scott Chitwood, co-founder of TheForce.net and contributor to ComingSoon.net and SuperheroHype.com.

True to the passions of its founders, Red 5 Comics will produce cinematic-style stories that appeal to the same avid movie and comic fans who already frequent their websites. The Red 5 line-up will be a combination of creator-owned and internally developed titles. Individual comic issues will be sold in both traditional print form at comic shops and in downloadable electronic formats online.

"Over the years, we've had the great pleasure to cross paths, both online and in-person, with many talented and creative people," said Ens, "from artists, to writers, to filmmakers and actors, and countless enthusiastic fans. Not only have they been a great inspiration, but we plan to include many of them in Red 5 as well."

Among the titles currently in development are...

  • Abyss - Kevin Rubio's short-film, TROOPS, was one of the first true video events on the internet. His latest creation, Abyss, tells the comedic and dysfunctional tale of the relationship between a son and his powerful supervillain father. Lucas Marangon is drawing the series, re-uniting the popular creative team behind the wildly imaginative Star Wars: Tag and Bink comic series.

  • Atomic Robo - Brian Clevinger (NuklearPower.com 8-Bit Theater) and Scott Wegener (Negative Burn, Wicked West 2) chronicle the Action Science adventures of Nikola Tesla's robot across the twentieth century and beyond.

  • Midknight - Tom Hodges ("How to Draw Star Wars", WizardUniverse.com's "Artists to Watch" 2006) creates and illustrates the exploits of a husband-and-wife team who fight crime from the office by day and on the streets of Philadelphia at night.

  • Neozoic - Created by Paul Ens (Star Wars: Evasive Action), Neozoic imagines a gritty sci-fi / fantasy world where dinosaurs did not become extinct, and humanity lives under the constant threat of giant predators. The art of J. Korim (Rotogin: Junkbotz) brings the world to life.

  • Afterburn - When half the planet is destroyed by a solar flare, out of the ashes emerge the action adventures of Jake and his treasure-hunters for hire. Afterburn is written by Scott Chitwood and Paul Ens, drawn by Wayne Nichols (Lady Supreme: Supreme Sacrifice), with covers by "Rock Star of Illustration" Matt Busch.

Red 5 Comics is proud to be presented by ComingSoon.net and SuperheroHype.com, two of the best-respected and most-visited fan-based movie websites on the planet.
