DAN ELECTRO'S is sorry to announce that "JOE'S ROADHOUSE" has been canceled by KPFT.  In celebration of the many years of shows that Joe has given us we are having one last live "JOE'S ROADHOUSE" show on Saturday July 18 @ 2:00 p.m.  This show will feature three of the best musicians to play the "GUITARZILLA & SON OF GUITARZILLA SHOWS", originator & creator of Guitarzilla DAN WORKMAN, BIG ALL BETTIS & VINCE CONVERSE (of SUNSET HEIGHTS) & the drummer, "JACKHAMMER" JOEY RIGGINS in MONSTER.  The MONSTER set will be followed by another monster set featuring an all star jam of many musicians that have played "JOE'S ROADHOUSE LIVE" throughout the years.  THIS SHOW WILL BE LIVE ONLY, NO BROADCAST!

Come on out & help us to celebrate the many years that Joe, Frank & Lynne have shared their shows with us; doors will open @ 2:00 music starts @ 3:00 & if you miss it you won't have another chance to tell them goodbye or catch the incredible music that will be played to send them off.  We hope you can make this event to say good bye to one of Houston's premiere showcases of great local & regional bands that no other radio stations ever covered.  There is a 10.00$ cover & the music will be AWESOME.

Last minute change to show, Smokin' Joe has decided to make his final "JOE'S ROADHOUSE"
a free show as a gift to his long time fans, doors open @ 2:00 & show is @ 3:00.

Looks like guy Schwartz will try a webcast of this show after all link follows

So, it is a very special week @ Dan Electro's this week.  Besides all the special musicians that have been playing Tuesday through Friday for early shows.  We are welcoming P.J. FLOWERS home from the triumphant 2nd leg of her tour with LEZ ZEPPELIN to play on Friday night with THE FONDUE MONKS, our pal LEESA HARRINGTON-SQUYRES is also playing with that band.

Then on Saturday another of the Dan Electro's daughters will be tying the knot.  Yes indeed RYAN & KELSEY are getting married & it's a private party, but anyone wanting to drop off nuptial offerings for them can do so before or after the festivities, that is before Saturday or next week.
In case anyone feels that there is a bit of deja vue to the timing of this wedding, it falls one week short of Wednesday's & Mitchell's 10th anniversary, so y'all can wish them a happy anniversary as well
.

HAPPY SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight there's a great show featuring 10th GRADE CUTIES, THE GINSLINGERS & CHELSEA HOTEL.  KID RED did a happy hour show, he's always a lot of fun.  The main reason for the blog 'though is THE 5TH ANNUAL "THANKS BOB"
KPFT Fundraiser, this is a show to benefit the shows "DEAD AIR" &"PAT & ROSIE'S  NIGHTSOUNDS"; these two shows are some of the
few radio shows in Houston that actually
give
air time to some of our
vastly unappreciated local & regional
musicians.  These shows are hosted by these awesome
D.J.s that donate major amounts of their time to enlighten those of us less knowledgeable about music &
the musicians around us.  Not only should everyone
that can go to the show because it'll be very fun but
also to give, SANDY, PAT & ROSIE their props for
being as loyal to their community as they are.

After the "THANKS BOB" bands have played DAN ELECTRO'S  is very excited to host THE AUSTIN LOUNGE LIZARDS, this show is a great bargain @ 10.00$
just noticed another gig they have where the ticket prices range from 48.00$ - 68.00$ & as if a good price is not enough the money is also part of the KPFT fundraiser, so you know the money goes to a good cause.  Don't miss this special event @ DAN ELECTRO'S GUITAR BAR. Y'all have a wondersome weekend, yer pals @ DAN ELECTRO'S GUITAR BAR.

Each moment of music is a bit different @ Dan Electro's & this week end & next are a great example of that.  Each musical guest re-unites with musical friends they've played with @ Dan Electro's & elsewhere for more years than some of those folks have reached.

Three parts of history specifically we would like to bring to peoples' attention, the first being The Sunday Benefit for Tim Zinn.  Tim has a young daughter & has been home with her rather than coming out to Dan Electro's like he did for many years.  During that time & since Tim has opened his home & heart to many musicians through Houston & traveling from beyond.  That alone should bring a great number of musicians out & the ones that told folks they would be out include ERIC DANE, MOPAR MIKE, OPIE HENDRIX & CARRIE ANN & THE APOCALYPTICS.  There are probably going to be more than a few unscheduled sets, come on out & show Tim how grateful we are that he's spent so many years supporting his friends & that we'd like to support him also.

Our 2nd historical moment is the Twenty-First anniversary of BLOW TORCH REPAIR. These guys have been delivering some of the best live music in Houston for that long & we are very pleased that they made it back this year for this celebration, this show is on Friday May 22, 2009.  We made sure that the Art Car festivities were finished so maybe y'all can come out & let the guys how much fun you always had @ their shows & that you are glad they are here to play for another time.  Don't miss this one, it's a real piece of Houston music history.

And in closing we have the 3rd historical moment @ Dan Electro's which is with a relatively new initiate to Dan Electro's, the band ADRIAN & THE SICKNESS, they came to us in 2005 & we've been blown away by Adrian ever since.  In 2006, ADRIAN & THE SICKNESS started to host a Weinie Roast around the Memorial Day holiday week end & this year will be the 3rd of ADRIAN'S WEINIE ROASTS, doors open @ 2:00 p.m. (check calendar in case times change) & music will probably start after everyone gets their roasted weinies digested.  Adrian has been trying to send a video for this occasion for a week now - we'll see if we can get it right this time.   ----------

Everyone have a wonderful week end.

So, with life comes the opposite & that being said; it's never easy to say GoodBye. Over the Easter week end 3 folks that had graced Dan Electro's Guitar Bar with their music & or presence passed on & the world is poorer for having lost them, but many of our lives are richer for having had the chance to be in their presence.  One who spent the most time @ Dan's over the last 4 years was Ozell Roberts a great man who is already missed greatly.  Ozell played in Houston for many years, led more than a few of Dan Electro's Blues jams & played with the band TRAFFIC JAM over the last few years, he even drew some; for at least two years there was a sketch he did that stayed on the Big Fridge until Hurricane Ike took Dan Electro's roof & it was somehow lost then. Ozell was a great singer, guitarist & a very nice man, he will be missed by many.

Another man that passed over that week end was Rocky Hill, the name sounds familiar because Rocky was Dusty Hill's (ZZ Top) brother.  Rocky Hill was quite a guitarist in his own right, but as he said "I never seemed to get in to the right music at the

right time, when ZZ Top did the Rock n' Roll thing I was into Blues & now

that I'm into Rock n' Roll; the Blues are hot." Rocky's last trip to Dan Electro's

was as a guitarist for Smokin' Joe's Guitarzilla.  Hopefully Rocky will find things

different in his new dimension.

Finally the saddest of all is the passing of a relatively young man & one of the most influential of Houston's Art Cartists, Tom Kennedy.  While many of you may not have known Tom by name, there are very few people that spent time driving around Houston that did not see one of his wonderfully finned vehicles  ---- the most well known of which was Ripper the Land Shark.  There are quite a few others that are most effectively described and pictured on Tom's website which you should check out even if you hadn't ever heard of Tom or seen his vehicles!

http:/www.tomkennedyart.com

As Tom was such an important member of the HOUSTON ART CAR KLUB, this year's ART CAR BALL is the official TOM KENNEDY MEMORIAL ART CAR BALL, proceeds will go to help his family & some of Tom's favorite charities.  You can buy tix online & learn more about the party on their official website which is;

http:/www.artcarball.com

For those of you that don't know THE ART CAR BALLS are always some of the coolest parties ever thrown --- some people travel many miles for that party.  One year I met folks that came all the way from Los Angeles for that Ball, which was kind of sad as it was the one held in the Astrodome & it was a little lacking compared to others I'd been to, but those folks still had a great time & were glad they'd made the trip.  Just think, you can go to the TOM KENNEDY MEMORIAL ART CAR BALL and still make a good portion of DAN ELECTRO'S Blues Jam & have a beer to the memories of Ozell & Rocky.

Thanks for reading this & have a wonderful weekend.  Don't forget that there is always good music @ Dan Electro's.  Tonight you can help Gabe to celebrate his birthday with ST. JUBILEE & SUNSET HEIGHTS, tomorrow DR. RICK & THE BURNERS & LOS RAUNCHEROS will play.  Doors are opening @ 4:00 p.m. now with free pool & 2.00$ domestics until 7:00 p.m. shows start @ 9:00 p.m.  Blues Jams are no cover & sandwiches are served from 4:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m.  Be safe, yer pals @ DAN ELECTRO'S GUITAR BAR.

Dan Electro's has another great week end of music this week. Most of the entertainers are featured as our top friends this week. If you want to know more about them, just click on their profile photos.

Thursday, February 26th, 2009 it's Dan Electro's Original Blues Jam. The Teri Greene Band plays the 1st set @ 9:30 p.m. with dynamic blues, soul, funk set with guest New Orleans' DON THOMAS. Then @ 10:30 we start the jam. Come out to this no cover event.

Friday, February 27 we have a roots rock, country, folk show you're sure to enjoy. L.L. Cooper is fronted by guitarist/singer-songwriter Larry Cooper, who has stepped up to the mic to deliver his songs with a deep Southeast Texas twang carrying equal parts sarcasm & sincerity. L.L. Cooper's debut release "Old Hardin Store Road" was released in May 2007, was one of Dan's favorites & picked up excellent reviews in the Houston Chronicle and made the Chronicle's list as one of the "Top Ten Discs of 2007". In addition the CD picked up great reviews in ENVY magazine, and in the forever fussy Houston Press, where L.L. Cooper managed to garner 5 award nominations, including "Best songwriter", as well as "Best Roots-Rock" and "Best New Act" for the band. Starting things off will be the last show, before taking a hiatus, for the Zappa inspired band BIG SWIFTY. Then it's COME SEE MY DEAD PERSON, a folk, rock, gypsy, western swing, roots group we are really excited about bringing to Dan's for the 1st time. 9:00 p.m. 8.00$ cover.

Saturday February 28, 2009 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
JOE'S ROADHOUSE LIVE FROM DAN ELECTRO'S returns to KPFT 90.1fm with a sensational blues/rock show. Headliners SUNSET HEIGHTS have reformed with the original members
and added a second drummer. VINCE CONVERSE and the guys are one of the best bands Houston produced in the 90s. Texas rockers Sunset Heights formed in May 1991, taking their name from the Houston community which the band & Dan Electro's call home. In 1993 the group was named "Best New Act" in the Houston Press Music Awards; in 1994 Sunset Heights launched their 1st national release. One band that Sunset Heights often found compared to in the late 90s was the Black Crowes, and that isn't a bad comparison. Like the Crowes, Sunset favors earthy, gritty roots-rock, and also like the Crowes, they come across as a band with a healthy appreciation of the blues as well as the great soul & funk of the early 1970s.
Openers, THE MIGHTY ORQ have quickly risen to be one of Houston's biggest bands by combining the energy of classic southern rock with undieniable pop hooks & melodies. Influenced by legendary Texas bands like ZZ Top, Soulhat, & King'sX, the band is best know for their high energy shows. Their new album "To The Bone", was recorded in New Jersey with famed producer/engineer Ben Elliot (Eric Clapton, Keith Richards) at the helm. Their recent show @ Dan's proved this band has what it takes to get to the top. Doors open @ Noon, show promptly @ 3:00 p.m., don't be late lasts until 6:00 p.m. 10.00$ cover

Saturday Night February 28th, Dan Electro's regulars, Funk band of the Year THE FONDUE MONKS head up the evening with their smokin' rock, funk/soul butt shakin' show. THE FONDUE MONKS play "TEXAS FUNK" with a groove that remains true to their Texas roots.
Driven by a dedication that borders on obsession, THE FONDUE MONKS are totally committed to the crowd & married to the beat. Their live performance is a combination of row energy, emotion and a vibe that is captivating and infectious.
Opening is a group of women we have come to love @ Dan's, HER MAJESTY'S SWEATBOX. With a rock swagger, this band always entertains with enthusiasm & showwomenship.
9:30 p.m. 10.00$ cover.

Open @ Noon Tuesday through Saturday Sunday afternoon shows coming soon. Stop in for Happy Hour Noon - 7:00 p.m. & try out our new pool table.
