The Skull Defekts is recording an album together with Daniel A.I.U. Higgs (of Lungfish) in Stockholm. The sessions are starting on October 31st and will see the light in March hopefully on Important Records.

It will be magic.

Hey,

We decided to tour for a couple of weeks in late Fabruary, beginning of March. Get in touch if you want to do a show for us - though here, or with our booking agent Regina Greene at Front Porch Productions in Chicago. She's at frontporchproductionsrg@gmail.com

Ok skulls, see you soon!

When I saw The Skull Defekts play at PA’s Lounge last year, they changed me. I didn’t realize it at the time, of course. But as the days and weeks progressed, I knew there was something missing in my life. That was because most of the material they played live hadn’t been released yet. But I needed to hear to this music again. There was a certain je ne sais quoi that could only be achieved when listening to "Waving" or "Six Sixes" or any other song off of The Temple.

The Skull Defekts have made a rock record unlike any other I’ve heard. It’s sexmagic. It’s powerthrill. It’s everything a rock record should be. I had no idea what I was missing until I heard this. The percussion is so tribal and propulsive and the guitars are buzzing electric raw. This is the record you crank all the way up and fucking pound your chest to. The Temple is something that deserves it’s own place on your shelf, perhaps even on a pedestal set atop your mantle. - AntiGravity Bunny, Artrocker.

Someone at the great Aquarius record shop and mailorder in San Francisco wrote this about our new album. We like it a lot.

   "Swedish
post everything weirdos the Skull Defekts continue to mutate into
practically unrecognizable shapes, once we think we have them pegged,
they go and change things up drastically and dramatically. Drone Drug
was the last Defekts record we reviewed, and as the title might
suggest, that record was made up almost entirely of thick snarling
buzzy dronemusic, while before that, they veered from rhythmic
experimentalism to abstract soundscapery, never making one song long
enough to really pin them down.

Yet
we were still unprepared for this latest incarnation. The record opens
with a weird post punk jam, a looped riff, some pounding tribal drums,
streaks of feedback, and some actual singing. At first we were feeling
some Black Dice action, mixed with a little Six Finger Satellite, but
then in true Defekts fashion they locked into a groove and then
hammered away at it, a single part, a killer part, but repeated over
and over and over. A sort of post post post rock new wave or something.
The second track is more of the same, a buzzy distorted main riff,
super tight heavy hitting rhythm, and more singing, reminding us in
this instance of Swiss sampling rockers the Young Gods. And that we've
come to discover is the Skull Defekts new sound, their current
incarnation, is some freaked out druggy and damaged, swaggering new
wave garage stomping groove machine, that remains just a little too
tweaked, their sound just a little too repetitive and left of center to
allow them to fit in, and so they remain freaky fractured underground
groove rock alchemists. There are some moments that hint at past
incarnations, the chaotic and dense all drum marching band free-for-all
of "Unholy Drums For Psychedelic Africa", but especially "Urban
Ritual", that unfurls like some fucked up downtempo slowcore Bohren,
laced with hiss and glitch, the drums a distant patter, tons of low
end, bits of skitter, deeeeeeeeep rumbles, really ominous and creepy, a
cool way to finish off, especially after the mesmerizingly hypnotic
looped new wave garage stomp that came before. Weird, for sure, but
we're still digging it pretty hard... Think Black Dice, Animal
Collective, Gang Gang Dance, that sort of groovy druggy rhythmic
trancemusic, but a bit more fucked up and freaked out.

Plus in the liner notes someone gets credit for "shoe styling"... wow!"

"Waving b/w Building Temples For New Gods"
7" ltd 300

Is available from the great Important Records label! Limited edition of 300 copies. Available directly via Important Records
only or from the band on tour. This is a mailorder only title. It won't
be in shops.

"This limited tour/mailorder-only 7" from the DFX first real US jaunt
this past month offers us a first taste of what to expect from the
band's forthcoming long-player "The temple" (due out in February 2009) and is a direct continuation of the direction they were heading on their 2007 album "Blood spirits & drums are singing": raw, repetitious and cult to the core. A-side "Waving" sees the band revisiting member Henrik Rylander's garage roots for the very first time, except that the end result is far more sinister than anything Union Carbide Productions
ever did. The distorted guitar figure gives it swing, but it's nearly
drowned out by the clatter of heavy percussion and deadpan vocals. As
with "Blood spirits..." highlight "The secret",
the band is less concerned riffs than they are with allowing the
insistent monotony to drill deep into your skull for a totally
compelling but uneasy listening experience. Expectations are met and
exceeded. On the flipside, exclusive instrumental "Building temples for new gods" piles on more skronk, but loses momentum due to lack of bass, though that does give echoes to Joachim Nordwall's former act Kid Commando. Not quite regression though; bad vibes persist and I'm further enthralled on subsequent listens.

Hey,

Thanks everyone involved in our first US tour! We did some 15 shows in 15 days and we had a great time, much thanks to our compadres Talk Normal (love you!) and the careful and friendly booking by Angela at Eclipse. Also special thanks to Regina in Chicago, Adam in Baltimore for the wet after party, Daniel Higgs for singing a song with us in Washington, Little Women for the killer show in Philly, Wolf Eyes and The Pleasure Dome for the killer party in Ypsi even though the cops shut us down after two songs which ment no Wolf boys but still a killer party (short arms built Ypsilanti), Now That's Class in Cleveland for amazing hospitality, Emily for the nice CD's for our van The Silver River and everyone that fed us, gave us drinks and gave us somewhere to sleep. All positive energy to you!

We hope to be back in the Us soon!
