So I'm out of my broken-foot boot and into some flats now. Sneaker-ish flats, with good support. But you know how I LOVE my heels. So I'm being good, knowing I'll get into them eventually. We had Christmas Night at North Lake last Sunday and it was amazing. I sang a solo on "Oh Holy Night," and I managed to get through the whole song (almost) before coming to tears at the tag. That song always gets me. It's a combination of things... the song is powerful, lyrically. Our God, our Savior, joining with us here on earth... heavy. Melodically, there has to be something about the melody, the intervals, that incites emotional response. That's just what some songs do. They speak to you on an entirely different level. Soul to soul. And also, that was the first Christmas song my family would play every year. Fr. Bob had recorded a Christmas album on which he sang "O Holy Night." And on Thanksgiving, every year my family would play that record. So "O Holy Night" means so much to me in so many different ways. Add to that the friends I've made in the Contemporary Music Ministry at NLPC since Joe & I moved here. It's been really incredible. Sharing Sunday last Sunday night with them is the greatest Christmas gift. Thanks, you guys.
Now, if we can get Mommy up and moving around after her knee surgery Thanksgiving week. My mommy is made of strong stuff, I tell ya.

For those who don't know already, I took a spill on my mud room floor last Saturday and broke 3 bones in my right foot. I apologize to everyone I'm currently involved in projects with if you haven't heard from me lately. It's taken a little while to get used to the crutches, but I'm becoming pretty operational now! I even made a pot of tea today!
Anyway, to my future band members, thanks for your patience and while I'm kinda laid up, I'm doing the phone work to get us going full blast within a few months. (Check out the Jeanann Hand Band songlist on the previous blog.)
Good thing is I'm spending lots of time on my guitar while I sit around with my bum foot elevated. Every cloud has a silver lining, doesn't it?
Thanks and God bless!
Jeanann

So I fiiiiiiinally made it over to the Jam Nite at the Orange Blossom Opry last Thursday, and OMG, I had so much fun. I sang some of the good ole stuff with their most awesome band. If they're reading this, thanks for the warm welcome and the great time. Any other artists out there who are considering stopping by there, I say do it, you won't find a nicer crowd, both in the audience and onstage and behind the scenes. I'm going back next week!

Hey! Things have been going well here in Florida. I met an awesome pro drummer named Dan with whom I hope to put a kickin' country band together to play at some county fairs and festivals real soon. Also putting a set of standards together with a wonderful jazz guitarist named Tom Levenia. He's a super guy, and super-talented as well.
I'll be singing Friday August 8th from 6:30 to 9:30 at Harbor Hills Country Club. It's open to the public, so if you're in the area stop on by.

I'm now singing with an awesome 70's/80's/Classic Rock band called UNDERCOVER. I get to really let loose and have a great time singing everything from Janis to Heart to Journey to Zep and lots more. They're a great bunch of musicians and we'll be putting on some great shows in the Nashville area soon. I'll post dates here as soon as I have them.

Aug. 25th Friends of Pegram Park Writers' Night. It's a fundraiser for a beautiful park in the neighboring town of Pegram. I love Pegram's main street. It feels so home-y! . Oct. 6th Sang the historic Lawn Chair Theater at Puckett's Grocery in Leipers Fork for the Nashville Riders (a great bunch of folk) as they finished their run raising money for the Williamson County People for Animals. You know how I love my critters! . I need to start posting these things before I do them!

What I've Been Doing Lately Hey! My keyboard was broken for a while, so when I'd try to send email or log on to myspace or write blogs it would come out like this: "fdjkp 53890 ??*!JF /" It got to be kind of fun to try to make words out of the keys that did work, but I was continually unsuccessful and thus, laying low. So here's a brief diary of fun events recently.
August 9 I wore Phil Keaggy's shoe. I was at a sort of party and he was there and I noticed his really cool shoes and he let me try one on. The event was a lot of fun and I met a some really great people.
August 22 Played some stuff at a songwriter night downtown on 3rd ave at Past Perfect, a neat little restaurant off lower Broadway. Had a great dinner there too. Seared ahi tuna-- muy delicioso. Thanks, Songwriter Host Nathan.
August 25 Sang at the Friends of Pegram Park Songwriters Night, an event held monthly during the warmer months here in Nashville. Saw some great folks I already knew and met and heard some new ones, including Blue Larry Blue, who really isn't so sad as he sounds. Joe introduced Boo's tune and it went over well. I loved sharing some of my new stuff and was encouraged by the warm response. Thanks, Marilee, for having us, and Joyce, for hosting the night.
It's dry and hot up here in TN. But full of love.
See you later.
