So, yeah, after months of thinking it over, we've decided to disband, break up, hemorage, yadda yadda. This especially sucks cuz we just filmed a kick ass music video. Well, i guess that sucks for clark jackson because he spent a billion free hours making it for us. We are sooo sorry, but there was really no other option. We'll try to get the video on our page soon. It can be our goodbye present! I'm terribly sorry to everybody that didn't make it out to our last show, but for those who did, we really appreciate it, and we hope to see your faces in the future. Please continue to support local music, and you can bet your ass we'll be around the seattle music community for a long time.
also, if you haven't already, please buy the Botch DVD and watch it. It's awesome.
thanks again, and happy new year!

Thats right! We're officially big shots. We're finally going to have a legitimate music video, thanks to the ferocious talent, and extraordinarily huge heart of Constellation Jones. Believe me people, it will be the best music video you've ever seen. We're shooting on the set of desperate housewives, and i will have a professional hair and make-up and nails and wardrobe and a personal assistant. If you believed that last sentence, you are an idiot. We will be shooting in somebody's living room all sunday. We'll mos def post it on this very myspace page when it's completed.
Also, we only have one more show in Los Angeles. If you or someone you know is in the area, please come to our knitting factory show monday night and say bye.
thanks! -nouela

See Mon Frere now or forever hold your peace. Not only has the band been MIA from local calendars thanks to a summer full of touring, but the bluesy and dirty dance-punk band is leaving town again, this time taking up residency at Los Angeles club the Knitting Factory. They'll be down there playing every Monday night for the month of October, and afterward, they're going to tour even more, so who knows when they'll make it back to our little city. Sigh. Just don't forget who had you first, Mon Frere. - MEGAN SELING, The Stranger 9/20/06
We totally rely on the kindness of The Stranger. Thanks, Megan!!! |

I was in the high school jazz band. I am not ashamed of this fact. However, I am quite aware that being a band geek in high school is considered by no one to be a cool extra curricular activity. but, when a person uses this fact as a means to deliberately aid in the knocking down of Mon Frere scene points, i am not pleased. Because people, scene points are important, and you need to collect as many as possible in the coolest way possible. i suppose there is a noteable distinction between high school jazz band influence and just jazz influence. Like the difference between "shitty amature" and "something worth my time." Also, keep in mind that our ages are 25, 22 and 20. haven't been at good old terrace high in a few years.
not over age of thirty= -30 points
caring about our success and goals= -25 points
writing this blog= -1,000 points
feelings. hurt. kinda. pissed. in a respectful way. always in a respectful way. -40 scene points.
not being a douche= priceless. fucking priceless.
also, i really really enjoyed the jazz band. it probably kept me out of a lot of trouble.

Check out this cool new review we got. Man, it would be hella to have a Mon Frere jet!
8/2/06 Stranger Weekly says: "KEXP AUDIOASIS LIVE: MON FRERE, FLEET FOXES (@High Dive) If there were a World's Strongest Man contest for vocals, Mon Frere singer, Nouela Johnston, would be pulling a plane with her teeth. She's got the sonic makings to be mega. Mon Frere is a synth-pop power bar. Drummer Dustin McGhie has mountains of chops and guitarist Kyle Swisher "Sweet" is tasty and deft. Mon Frere's first full-length, Blood, Sweat & Swords, is out on Cake Records now and catching many ears. The High Dive will be full of action Saturday, with early and late Audioasis shows. Come down and get airborne. Bring your jet and Nouela will pull it with her vocal cords." TRENT MOORMAN

Hey ya'll!!!
We have decided to let you all know whats been going on in Mon Frere World!!!!
First off, there's been no "time off" or "resting" that you would expect to hear from a band that has just come off a 2 month Summer tour. NO!!!!! There is too much work to be done!!!!
We've played some really fun shows since we've been back, including our homecoming show at El Corazon. Thank you to everyone that came out and DANCED THEIR ASSES OFF!!!! Also a big thank you to the bands that played that night, Diamente, Last Ditch Remedy (Debut album out on Cake Records Aug, 22), and especially Knives in the Attic!!! They are in the middle of their US tour right now so you should check their myspace and find out when they are playing near you!!!!
Thank you to anyone that tuned in to KEXP's Audioasis on Aug 5th to hear us play live at the High Dive with the Fleet Foxes (myspace.com/fleetfoxes)
We are currently working on booking shows around our residency at the L.A. Knitting Factory in October. So all you Californians better make it out to most, if not all of our shows in your area in October.
But lets not get ahead of ourselves!!! We have a show Monday August 28th at the L.A. Knitting Factory, and we need all of YOU to be there!!!!!!
Last but not least, we have also spent a little time in the studio since we've been home to record a little cover song. The song has been one of my favorite songs since the Winter of 1995. This is the first time that Dustin has been able to lay down his "Beats Of Fury" on a Mon Frere track, and let me tell you......it sounds divine. I'm not sure when you'll be able to hear it, but we will let you know when and how, once we know when and how.
Some of the things we have been super stoked on lately are:
George Washington
The Dandy Warhols first 2 albums, and the new Slayer album!!!
I hope that everyone is now up to speed in "Mon Frere World" and let us know if you have any questions!!!!
Love, Mon Frere
This little guy is the mastermind behind Mon Frere

Hellooooooo WORLD.
So, as some of you might know, we just got back from a weird and long tour of planet america. And it was awesome. for the most part. the heat was NOT awesome. we'd like to extend a sincere thanks to every mall and movie theatre in america for their continued effort to be the coldest buildings in every state. We saw a couple movies on tour.
1- lady in the water. = i give it 5.6 stars out of 7.9. i thought it was charming, but jordan and dustin thought it was "boring as fuck." Also, i find it quite disturbing that the fish girl looks exactly like ron howard.
2- my super ex-girlfriend = 3.2 out of 5.45 stars. this movie was SOOOOOO .........O.K!
3- clerks II = million stars out of billion stars. yeah, it was hilarious, but it wasn't amazing. but it got a million stars.
also, i thought the following story was worth mentioning.
we played the best show ever in new mexico. alberquerqieewe ( i simply can't be bothered with a spell checker)? But, right by the venue, peter krouse (six feet under) and juliana margoleese (E.R) were filming a sci-fi mini series. this was hands down the highlight of the tour. Six feet under was my life for a lot of years, and seeing peter krouse's face as he tried to avoid the weird looking kids waiting outside of his van were priceless.
we played with a couple awesome bands too. "return to simple" were amazing from chicago. We played a ton of shows with the pharmacy and thee emergency, and they were hella nice people. If you ever wanna go midnight swimming, call up the pharmacy. they're soo good at finding a secluded beach or awesome off-limits swimming pool.
this is all i can remember right now. there will be more blogs soon.
and everybody that came out to any of our shows deserves a medal. because they are awesome. YOU are awesome, and make us feel warm and cuddly even after eight hour drives through 110 degree mini deserts.
thank you, and see you at a show.
