We have recently found out that Phil Powell, the driving force behind Leaping Cat Records passed a way suddenly on the 22nd of November.  We send our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.....

Kent for 'da Crows.
Monday, July 13, 2009
Over the past few weeks our local paper have been advertising that we are playing the Hallgate Tavern in Cottingham. We are NOT, as the brewery pulled the budget for gigs until september time.

The ads are annoying for us & Music HQ (promoter). Gigs will ,as usual,be advertised on our website www.moonshinecrows.com & myspace page

         Thanks

            Musician Magazine Summer 2009:

Kent,Tracey,Gareth met in 2006,fused their collective talents and myraid US influences- such as Grateful Dead,Frank Zappa,Neil Young and many more-and launched a sky-shaving comet offree and enterprising rock. Clean shards of rhythm, and occasionally chorused guitar support Kent's rejuvenating vocals and lyrics, while Tracey and Gareth drive proceedings along with stimulating awareness.

Zombie Love sees Link Wray shake hands with the Velvet Underground at a moonlit rendezvous, while Dreams Of Reality is clean, dynamic and simply classic. More please.

            www.unpeeled.Net - 21 July 09:

 SOUNDS LIKE?

Pretty much everything The Kills should and  want to be. Problem is Moonshine Crows have been listening to a lot,a whole lot,of Dave Edmunds singles and reading Modesty Blaise 'n' old DC comics while The Kills have been listening to Kate Moss and reading their own press releases. Guess who will make the break and money?

 ANY GOOD?

It's quite slicck and imaginative for music played in a self-selected rut. Key word is 'played' because these are people who can play well, unfashionably well. We recommend ' Zombie Love' and 'Leave My Monkey Alone', both especially moving in these Jacko-less days.

                Incendiary Magazine - 14 July 09:

There are a number of towns that would like to lay claim to being the music capital of the British Isles, but Hull isn't one of them. That's not to say that there hasn't been some good music to come out of Hull, because there has. Take the Housemartins for example and, well that's about it really. Well, now Moonshine Crows are trying to put Hull back on the map for people other than truck drivers heading for the ferry port and those trying to get a good look to see if Phil Brown's tan is real or not. They're trying too hard, they've even got a kazoo. Let's face it, there isn't enough kazoo on the radio nowadays and chances are, there probably never will be, but at least they're trying.

It's kind of hard to fault these guys, especially the bass player- she's bloody marvellous, but they're not exactly what you would call the next best thing. There's absolutely nothing wrong with their playing, the drums and guitar work are very good, especially on their extended jam workouts (of which there are many on this album) and the singer sounds like an American David Gilmour, but the songs seem to float in one ear and out the other. They're enjoyable while they last, but they're about assubstantial as a bag of prawn crackers.

If you live in England, and in particular around the Hull area, you could do a hell of a lot worse than check these guys out down the local Irish pub, or wherever they can get a gig, because you're sure to have a bloody good time. The only thing is you probably won't want to take them home with you at the end of the night.

Trio have their cake and eat it

Comment on this story

It's hard to imagine Coldplay or The Killers turning up to the studio clutching tins of home baking.
And it's unlikely that Bono spends his evenings baking cream sponges for The Edge to enjoy in between crafting those blistering guitar solos.
But ....Hull....'s blues-tinged outfit The Moonshine Crows like to do things a little differently. And if they want cake, they'll have cake.
"We used to write all our songs around the kitchen table and we'd bring cakes along to eat while we were trying to get inspiration," says drummer Gareth Winstone.
"I asked my mum to make us a cake to celebrate finishing the album and when it was ready, I said to the other two in the band 'cake's done' – and it just stuck. It seemed like a good name for the record."

............................................................................

With Cake Is Done in the can, featuring ten tracks of laid back Americana rock including tracks such as Zombie Love and Leave My Monkey Alone, The Moonshine Crows are on a roll, and not just because of all the cake they've eaten.
After two-and a half years of honing their sound the band says it's finally ready to step it up and search for success on a higher level.
The trio, made up of Gareth on drums, American Kent Mitchell on guitar and vocals and Tracey Beardmore on bass, are now busily promoting their Hull-recorded debut CD and convincing shops around the ....UK.... to stock it – with a fair hit rate of success.
"We've got shops as far afield as Edinburgh, Newcastle and London who have all listen to the record and agreed to stock it so now we just need to let people know that it's out there. It's available at Disc Discovery, on Spring Bank, in ....Hull...., and costs £7 if anyone wants to get hold of a copy," says Gareth.
"It will also be on www.cdbaby.com and iTunes in the New Year.
"We've actually had quite a lot of interest from radio stations in the ....US...., which is quite promising, so we'll have to see how it goes out there."
2009 sees the band looking to step up their touring schedule and play more gigs both in their home city and further afield. And Gareth is hoping that the Crows' distinctive style could win over plenty of new fans.
"We don't really sound like anyone else around at the moment," he says.
"We're inspired by all sorts of people such as Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Mott The Hoople, but we try to add our own individual style to it as well.
"Our sound has developed quite slowly since we met two-and-a-half-years ago as we experimented with different sounds but we've settled on a style now and want to take it as far as we can."
The Moonshine Crows will play the Hallgate Tavern, Hallgate, Cottingham, on Monday, February 27, ..8pm... For more details, call (01482) 844448.

Please people, don't lick our drummer, I know it is tempting but it is becomming a bit of a problem.  We are not sure why people want to lick our drummer, he is, after all, not a cane toad, but just a usually sweaty drummer.  So I hope all of our friends can help us by discouraging people from licking him after gigs.

Thank you, Kent and Tracey
