Hey everybody, hope all is well with you…  Busy busy week here at the shop, and of course I’m late again with the email…

New stuff out now:

BOB DYLAN

New remasters for the Basement Tapes, Before the Flood, New Morning, and Dylan & the Dead!!!  Nice little setup for next month’s all new album…

Leonard Cohen – Live

2CD set or DVD of one of last year’s concerts…

PJ Harvey - A Woman A Man Walked By

New album with John Parish.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – It’s Blitz

Brand new one, after a couple years off.

Gomez – A New Tide

If you’re looking for this, please ask for it, as it won’t be in the bins because of an oversize jacket…

Monks – The Early Years 1964-1965

Beautiful reissue from the Light In The Attic guys (Betty Davis, Serge Gainsbourg, Black Angels). Includes 32 page book in addition to the dozen cuts. (Also at the counter, since it, too, doesn’t fit in the bins…

Decemberists – Hazards of Love

CD and LP. This is out now, but it had a weird, stuttered release, so I left it off the last 2 emails…

Obits – I Blame You

Also out now, this is fantastic… All the guys are in other bands (most notably, Hot Snakes), I Blame You is kind of like The Stooges if they were a brit pop band…  I’m playing this album every day…

Diana KrallQuiet Nights

The latest…

Peter Bjorn & JohnLiving Thing

New record, the proper follow up to Writer’s Block (after an instrumental album and a solo or two)…

UGK – UGK 4 Life

Final album from the Underground Kingz, finished just after the death of leader/producer Pimp C. Surprisingly excellent.  Not dregs or studio outtakes at all…  Sounds great on my crappy little car stereo…

Marvellous Boy: Calypso from West Africa

Latest in the series (London is the Place for Me, etc) from the Honest Jon’s people, a collection of recordings from the 1950s.

Lynyrd Skynyrd – Authorized Bootleg

Muddy Waters – Authorized Bootleg

Major label digging into their tape vaults.  They come up with an excellent 1966 Muddy Waters show, and two shows from Skynyrd (1975 & 1976)… Never before released…

Baby Huey – Living Legend

After an amazingly long time without (inexplicable distributor nonsense), this absolute classic

TUESDAY GOODIES:

Beastie BoysCheck Your Head

2CD or (?) LPs deluxe editions, continuing their catalog renovations…

Neil Young – Fork In The Road

Brand new one.  And hey, that Archive box set is coming out June 2 (or that could be an April Fool’s… He’s a wily one, that Neil…)

Grateful Dead – To Terrapin: Hartford 77

New concert set, two discs from 1977.  Needless to say, Craig’s  excited…

Grateful Dead – Winterland 1973: complete

Usetabe only on dead.net, now available in stores… Amazing box set…

Hold Steady – A Positive Rage

CD and DVD…

JadakissThe Last Kiss

New album, long awaited, from the Lox member, now on RocAFella/ Def Jam

Stephanie McKayTell It Like It Is

Love her… She put out an album several years back produced by the Portishead guys, which I still play to this day…  Can’t wait to get my hands on this.

Hey everybody, our latest in-store performance will be this coming Saturday, March 7 at 9 pm, with the excellent Aby Laby Land... Three guys with guitars and mandolin,  they played last year's St. Alfonso's, but will be taking it inside this time for a little bit more intimate a setting...  I love their CD, and will of course have copies available at the show (have 'em right now, as a matter of fact...)...

Come on out and check us out! We're gonna be doing these pretty regularly from here on out...  Bobby Rich is on deck for the 21st for an acoustic set, and got some more coming in April...

Hey everybody,
I know it's been a while...

I want to start having regular live performances in the shop.  We just had Sapat play Saturday night (Valentine's Day) and had a great time...  We're gonna have Aby Laby Land play in the next couple weeks (stay tuned), and I'm reaching out to more for spring and beyond...

For bands that are interested: Until the weather changes and we can spill outside, we've gotta keep it at 4-pieces, tops.  We don't have a P.A. either, and outside of our St. Alfonzo block party (going forward) and perhaps a very very special event we won't have the ability to provide one for you.  So, if you're a rock band, perhaps this will be your "unplugged"...  For now, also, I'd like to keep it to the locals.  Once we've kinda gone around the block a bit with this, we'll start entertaining the idea of out of towners, etc.  It'd probably also make a bit more sense to keep it a bit lighter in the genres for now.  When the weather breaks, maybe we'll do some heavier music (when we can go outside), but the store's a bit on the small side to crunch too hard or too too loud.

In the meantime, let's have fun with this, and I'll try and keep everyone updated on here with the goings on in the shop...

THANKS!!!

Hey everybody, it is crazy down here right now… We're getting deep into St. Alfonzo's II.  For those of you who are new to us, new to the emails, etc, let me give you the rundown… St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast is our annual Frank Zappa festival/ block party.  The name is taken from a song on Zappa's Apostrophe album (you know, the one with "Yellow Snow".)  Last year was the first, and we had a great time.  This year, Sunday October 29, 2006, we're going all out.  Not only will we have our cookout (the aforementioned Pancakes, as well as Burnt Weeny Sandwiches, Peaches En Regalia Cobbler, and whatever else we can think of), but live local music! I'm still working on the band list; I'll let you know on the next email who all's going to play…  We will also have (like last year), an original T-Shirt to commemorate the event, designed by Brent Hambleton, free to anyone with a $30 purchase… We're still tweaking all the other bells and whistles… The block will be closed on Highland from Baxter to the alley… Start coming up around 1pm on Sunday, music will start at 2 or 3…
