Current mood:compilationy
Dear friends in Portugal,
I wanted to let you know that 'To Begin With' - a compilation of songs from my first three albums - is out now through Vidisco. It is only available in Portugal.
The compilation has a handsome cover, a photograph which my friends Agatha & George took a little while ago. I am the one on the far right, in case you were wondering.
Also, the songs on this compilation were chosen by me. I guess they are my favourites. The tracklist is as follows:

1. Warm Jets
2. Under the Town
3. Making a Fire
4. Now I Love Someone
5. On Longing
6. Up With the Birds
7. Things Between People
8. To Begin With
9. Would You?
10. One of You for Me
11. We're Good People but Why Don't We Show It?
12. As the Night Dies

Current mood:judgy
hi pals,
it is good to be back in sunny sydney after our 7 week world (kind of) tour. bree & I played 25 shows in 8 countries, walked till our feet burnt, ate many local cuisines and learnt how to say 'thank you' in a number of new languages. so thank you (obrigada, danke, grazie, merci, tika hoki, dank je wel, etc) to the tallest man on earth, the handsome family, the drones and all the nice people who watched us play.
we had a really good time.
now that I am home I am listening to many excellent australian records in my new role as a judge for the AMP (the Australian Music Prize). it is great to be involved in this process, I think it is a wonderful award. you can see the full list of judges here:
I am now accepting bribes in the form of fresh fruit & paperbacks.
ha ha!

Current mood:horse
hi pals,
finally there is a website at my website, which has been sad and blank and re-directing for way too long.
I found a picture of a former race-track star, having a literal roll in the hay, and made a website from there. I'm not sure why I like horses so much, but to see one lying down is like looking through a telescope backwards, or putting the cart first.
so: www.hollythrosby.com is in its first stage of a new life.
soon there will be things as sophisticated as 'pages'.
neigh.

Hi friends,
There is a new surf film coming out on dvd this weekend called Last Hope.
Here is the official blurb:
Last Hope is a series of 16 original short films compiled by Andrew Kidman (Glass Love/Litmus) and Spunk Records. Andrew Kidman chose six of his favourite surfing filmmakers to create short films that were inspired by the sea. The filmmakers include Albert Falzon (Morning Of The Earth), Jon Frank (Litmus), Monty Webber, Michelle Lockwood (Kids) and American underground surf filmmakers Patrick Trefz (Thread) and Richard Kenvin (Hydrodynamica). Kidman also provides four special cuts of his own.
The filmmakers created their short films to music by Smog, Sufjan Stevens, Mogwai, My Morning Jacket, Dirty Three, Holly Throsby, Vetiver, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Machine Translations, The Brown Birds From Windy Hill, Explosions in the Sky and more.
So have a look, hey? Here is a preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5Xbfdlu9D4
There is a launch tour happening around some nice NSW & QLD surfing spots, see the Spunk website for details.
See you,
ht
p.s. The Hello Tigers and I are very excited to be playing Splendour in the Grass this year. And we're also playing at the Spunk night at the Byron Bay community centre on the Friday, July 24th, along with The Middle East & Leader Cheetah. That should be a real nice show.

hi friends,
thanks to all of you who came along to the shows as part of my Micro Australian Solo Tour. I had a really good time. and, I know, it wasn't really solo. as I said, I panicked, so lonely. so thank you to the amazing special guests who played and sang with me in various cities: Bree van Reyk, Aidan Roberts, Caitlin Park, Jack Ladder, Dan Kelly & Sarah Blasko, thank you.
and also, did you know that spunk records and friends raised a whole bunch of money for FBi thanks to all you who came and paid your ticket price on monday night at the metro?long live community radio and those who listen.
so, those will be the last sydney & melbourne shows for the year. but yes, yes, I will try and get to brisbane at some point. I will.
I am in brooklyn tonight. please tell your north american friends to come see me and bree play a hip duo show here at monkey town on friday night. apparently they serve delicious food.
I will write again soon regarding a surf film that I am part of.

Hello Sydney-siders,
I wanted to let you know that I have just been added to the line-up at the Spunk! Records & Friends FBi fundraiser this Monday, June 8th at The Metro. (Don't worry 9-5ers, it is a public holiday!).
It is going to be an amazing show with amazing people including SARAH BLASKO, NEW BUFFALO (solo), JACK LADDER, THE MIDDLE EAST, LEADER CHEETAH, GRAND SALVO, MACHINE TRANSLATIONS, FIREKITES, SONGS, MEGASTICK FANFARE, CAITLIN PARK, PARADES, GHOUL, THE HOLY SOUL, FERGUS BROWN, BEARHUG and MC HENRY WAGONS.
Make sure you buy some tickets! They are only $30 and the money made goes to saving FBi Radio which is a very important cause for music, arts & culture in our fair city.
The show goes from 5-10pm over two stages with short sets and sing alongs and Spunk & Friends cover songs by all artists. And I will be playing with an impromptu spunk-all-stars band featuring Bree van Reyk, Jack Ladder, Aidan Roberts & Caitlin Park.
Oh, and tune into FBi at 3pm this Friday to hear Sarah Blasko do a cover of 'We're Good People But Why Don't We Show it?'.
See you monday,

Dear Friends Over The Ocean,
I am very pleased to announce that A Loud Call was released yesterday, June 1st, in the UK by the good people at Woo Me! Records (and Southern Records distribution). Hello United Kingdom, and Ireland, and hello to some places in Europe where I think the record will be also. I will find out more about that.
The new issue of MOJO says A Loud Call is "a fragile, quiet joy of a record. **** 4 stars".
I am going to come and play for you soon, details to follow.
In the meantime, I am playing some shows in New York next week and then in Toronto for NXNE.
See you on the prairie & in the skyscraper,
ht
