Current mood:  excited
Last weekend, we hit our first 60 degree day for 2008.  If the open-play attendance is any indication, there are a LOT of players who are anxious to get out there and start playing again.  I know I'm ready for the season to start!

We're still putting the finishing touches on some of the details, but look for a couple of new incentive programs for our open-players.  One will be geared toward players who buy their paintballs through us or Indy Extreme, the other will be a buddy program to help introduce new players to the sport.

Earlier this week I got a call from an old teammate, asking if I'd like to help with a radio stunt.  You see, my old teammate is one of the DJ's over at 93.1--you'd know him as DJ Kidd Kutt.  Long story short, they're starting a new skit called Bubble Boy, where they wrap an intern up in bubble wrap and do terrible things to him.  Since this is a page for a paintball field, you probably have an idea what happened next.

Yeah, so Thursday afternoon I get a call from Scott if I can do the skit that night.  Sure, no problem.  So I give Roham a call and we head down to the radio station.

We get down there and they've got 100 feet of bubble wrap and a motorcycle helmet for protection and a pot as a makeshift cup.  Fortunately for Bagel Boy, we'd had the foresight to bring proper eye protection and a chest protector.  They managed to scrounge up an athletic cup for him as well (I didn't bother to ask why they happened to have one in the office).

So we wrap this guy up and take him out back behind the Emmis studios.  Despite being back in an alley, it drew quite a crowd.  Roham's instructed to unload an entire hopper on Bagel Boy.  No safe words, just 200 rounds in about 15 seconds.

Here's a video of the outcome:

We're going to take a crack at running the February winter league event this weekend.  They're predicting the weather to be warmer, with only a chance of rain.  I'll make a decision on whether or not to run open play as we get closer to the weekend.

We went back down to the field today and did some more work.  Man, what a bad idea.  I'm not sure it got above 20 degrees.  I took Roham and my brother out there to help out (thanks guys).  Our first task was to start a fire using the brush we'd pulled out yesterday.  What was supposed to be a "quick" job with a blow torch took about an hour to get going.  Now I'll admit none of us made it past Cub Scouts, but really...how hard can it be to start a fire?  In the end, we got the fire going but man was it COLD out there!

We did have one brave soul show up to play and another one call to see if there'd be open play.  You gotta give those guys credit, they have heart.

Spent most of Saturday at the field.  A couple guys from F'n Hostile and STD Factory came out to help do some field work.  We started out by pulling all of the trash out of the drainage ditch.  It's amazing the stuff that people have dumped out there over the years.  I must be watching too much CSI, because I was half expecting to find a human head in the weeds.  Strangest thing we found was a jock strap.    We also ripped out a bunch of the brush along the fence line and took out the barb wire.

We'll be back out there tomorrow cutting more brush and stuff out of the parking area.  Once we get those areas cleaned up, we'll move on to field work.

I'm happy with the progress so far, even if it was just one day.  The guys that were out there worked their butts off.  Thanks for the help, guys.  Except for Jerry.  He spent the day in the car, sleeping off a hangover or something.   What a  lightweight.
