Footage from Bob Schneider's Bombananza Christmas Show at the legendary Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX

Well if I spell it out, if I get it out,
Will you hear me when I tell you about
What I have to say, before it gets too late?
It's not as easy as I said it'd be,
But there’s something right about you and me,
Something right about you and me.

Well you’re the color of a burning brook,
You’re the color of a sideways look from an undercover cop in a comic book
You’re the color of a storm in June,
You're the color of the moon.
You’re the color of the night, that’s right,
Color of a fight - you move me.
You’re the color of the colored part of The Wizard of Oz movie.

We're like Romeo and Juliet,
We're like 40 dogs, cigarettes,
We're like good times that haven’t happened yet but will.
And I can tell you where we're gonna be
When the whole world falls to the sea:
We’ll be livin’ ever after, happily.

All the boys taking you for granted,
Tell you what they want with their eyes all slanted.
I don’t like the way they look at you,
I don’t like the way they talk, too,
I don’t like the way they talk to you.
I wouldn’t let 'em talk to you like that.

Put 'em up high, reach for the ceiling.
Tell them that I'ma walk, damn it, I'm real,
And it ain't no crime, it's just dreams we’re stealing -
Anything to get more of this feeling

You take the high and I'll take the low,
We'll get there before you know.
We ain't got no time to waste,
We got too much life to taste.

We're like Romeo and Juliet,
And 40 dogs, cigarettes,
We're like good times that haven’t happened yet but will.
And I can tell you where we're gonna be
When the whole world falls to the sea:
We’ll be livin’ ever after, happily.

Sometimes you remind me of a moonbeam,
On the ghost of a moonbeam out on the beach,
Down by the coast, slip into the net
Like the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Come out tonight, come out with me, baby.
We'll throw the careful into the crazy,
Turn the sky black into a sky blue,
Turn the close shave into a whoo-hoo.
What I say is true, make a fire, gotta burn a few,
Make a fire, gotta burn a few,
We can do what we want to do.

We're like Romeo and Juliet, 40 dogs, cigarettes,
We're like good times that haven’t happened yet but will.
I can tell you where we're gonna be
When the whole world falls to the sea:
We’ll be livin’ ever after, happily.

I haven't listened to the Foo Fighters in a long time. Wheels, one of two new songs released on their greatest hits album, has had pretty heavy rotation on XM lately. It definitely has a "greatest hits" feel to it, but it's still a great song.

I know what you're thinkin'
We were goin' down
I can feel the sinkin'
But then I came around

And everyone I've loved before
Flashed before my eyes
And nothin' mattered anymore
I looked into the sky

Well I wanted something better man
I wished for something new
And I wanted something beautiful
And wish for something true
Been lookin' for a reason man
Something to lose

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

Know your head is spinnin'
Broken hearts will mend
This is our beginning
Comin to an end

Well, you wanted something better man
You wished for something new
Well, you wanted something beautiful
Wished for something true
Been lookin for a reason man
Something to lose

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

I've probably posted this one before, but the sense of utter desolation in this song just kills me.

You want to grow up to paint houses like me, a trailer in my yard till you're 23
You want to be old after 42 years, keep dropping the hammer and grinding the gears

Well, I used to go out in a Mustang, a 302 Mach One in green.
Me and your Mama made you in the back and I sold it to buy her a ring.
And I learned not to say much of nothing so I figure you already know
but in case you don’t or maybe forgot, I’ll lay it out real nice and slow

Don’t call what you're wearing an outfit. Don’t ever say your car is broke.
Don’t worry about losing your accent, a Southern Man tells better jokes.
Have fun and stay clear of the needle. Call home on your sister’s birthday.
Don’t tell 'em you’re bigger than Jesus, don’t give it away.

Five years in a St. Florian foundry, they call it Industrial Park.
Then hospital maintenance and Tech School just to memorize Frigidaire parts.
But I got to missing your Mama and I got to missing you, too.
And I went back to painting for my old man and I guess that’s what I’ll always do

So don’t let 'em take who you are boy, and don’t try to be who you ain’t.
And don’t let me catch you in Kendale with a bucket of wealthy-man’s paint.

Don’t call what you're wearing an outfit. Don’t ever say your car is broke.
Don’t sing with a fake British accent. Don’t act like your family’s a joke.
Have fun, but stay clear of the needle, call home on your sister’s birthday.
Don’t tell them you’re bigger than Jesus, don’t give it away.

Don’t give it away.

"Out of My Head" is a 1999 pop rock song by the American band Fastball from their second studio album All the Pain Money Can Buy. It peaked at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their only top forty hit on the chart.

Sometimes I feel
Like I am drunk behind the wheel
The wheel of possibility
However it may roll, give it a spin
See if you can somehow factor in
You know there's always more than one way
To say exactly what you mean to say

Was I out of my head or was I out of my mind?
How could I have ever been so blind?
I was waiting for an indication, it was hard to find
Don't matter what I say, only what I do
I never mean to do bad things to you
So quiet but I finally woke up
If you're sad then it's time you spoke up too

Was I out of my head or was I out of my mind?
How could I have ever been so blind?
I was waiting for an indication, it was hard to find
Don't matter what I say, only what I do
I never mean to do bad things to you
So quiet but I finally woke up
If you're sad then it's time you spoke up too

Was I out of my head or was I out of my mind?
How could I have ever been so blind?
I was waiting for an indication, it was hard to find
Don't matter what I say, only what I do
I never mean to do bad things to you
So quiet but I finally woke up
If you're sad then it's time you spoke up too

It hurts so bad, just like I knew that it would.
But I'd do it again, I'd do it again if i could

I've seen people losing all of their faith
before they knew what they were looking for
I swore I'd never ever do it again
'til this day

Words are all I have to give to you
you never seem to see it my way
Standing in the shadows I hear
people say

I've got confessions to make
listen up
no one sleeps when I'm awake

The dreams I dream
the song I sing for you
they're coming from my heart
Is my message getting through?
You know it hurts so bad
just like i knew that it would
but I'd do it again
do it again if I could
do it again if I could

I don't think you know what it's like
you should be careful what you're wishing for
and try to set your ego aside
you will find
a false piece of mind
you fall behind
and everybody's getting tired of you
standing in the shadows I hear
people say

I've got confessions to make
listen up
no one sleeps when i'm awake

The dreams I dream
the song I sing for you
and they're coming from my heart
is my message getting through?
You know it hurts so bad
just like I knew that it would
but I'd do it again
do it again if I could

Hey hey hey
I want you to know
hey hey hey hey

Cause the dreams that I dream
and the songs that I sing
when I lost myself and a different meaning
Shot down and post, imagine although it's
hundreds of dreams
Taking place around you

It hurts so bad
just like I knew that it would
but I'd do it again, I'd do it again if i could
but I'd do it again, I'd do it again if I could

I'd do it again
I'd do it again
I'd do it again
I'd do it again if I could

A true story that recalls the 2007 wildfires in California that destroyed 1,500 homes, burned 500,000 acres of land, killed nine people, and injured 85 others including at least 61 firefighters. The grapevine in the title refers to the Grapevine freeway in California. After the incident a local newspaper reported, "Three months after smoke from wildfires carpeted California’s vineyards, some winemakers in the thick of harvest are reporting grapes giving off unusual odors that may be signs of smoke taint."

The animated music video for "Grapevine Fires," directed by
Walter Robot, won for Best Music Video at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and is currently nominated for Breakthrough Video in the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

When the wind picked up the fire spread
And the grapevine seemed left for dead
And the Northern sky looked like the end of days
The end of days

The wake-up call to a rented room
Sounded like an alarm of impending doom
To warn us it's only a matter of time
Before we all burn

Before we all burn
Before we all burn
Before we all burn

We bought some wine and some paper cups
Near your daughter's school when we picked her up
And drove to a cemetery on a hill
On a hill

And we watched the plumes paint the sky gray
But she laughed and danced through the field of graves
And there I knew it would be alright
That everything would be alright

Would be alright
Would be alright
Would be alright

And the news reports on the radio
Said it was getting worse
As the ocean air fanned the flames
But I couldn't think
Of anywhere I would have rather been
To watch it all burn away

To burn away

And the firemen worked in double shifts
With prayers for rain on their lips
And they knew it was only a matter of time

"Romeo and Juliet" is a song by the British rock band Dire Straits, written by Dire Straits singer and lead guitarist Mark Knopfler. It first appeared on the 1980 album Making Movies and was released as a single in 1981. The song subsequently appeared on the Dire Straits live albums Alchemy and On the Night, and later on Knopfler's live duet album with Emmylou Harris, Real Live Roadrunning (though Harris does not perform on the track).

The lyrics of the song comprise a description of a conversation between the two lovers of the title. In addition to the obvious reference to William Shakespeare's play of the same title, the song makes playful allusion to other works involving young love, including the songs "Somewhere" – from West Side Story, which is itself based on the Shakespeare play – and "My Boyfriend's Back".

Dire Straits' original recording of the song has been featured in several motion pictures, including "Hot Fuzz", "Empire Records", and "Can't Hardly Wait".

A lovestruck Romeo sings a streetsus serenade
Laying everybody low with a lovesong that he made
Finds a streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like you and me babe how about it?

Juliet says hey it's Romeo you nearly gimme a heart attack
He's underneath the window she's singing hey la my boyfriend's back
You shouldn't come around here singing up at people like that
Anyway what you gonna do about it?

Juliet the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet and you exploded into my heart
And I forget the movie song
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong Juliet?

Come up on different streets they both were streets of shame
Both dirty both mean yes and the dream was just the same
And I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?

Well you can fall for chains of silver you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything you promised me thick and thin
Now you just say oh Romeo yeah you know I used to have a scene with him

Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above I'll love you 'til I die
There's a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong Juliet ?

I can't do the talk like they talk on tv
And I can't do a love song like the way it's meant to be
I can't do everything but I'll do anything for you
I can't do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All do is keep the beat and bad company
All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet I'd do the stars with you any time

Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above I'll love you 'til I die
There's a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong Juliet ?

A lovestruck Romeo sings a streetsus serenade
Laying everybody low with a lovesong that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade
He says something like you and me babe how about it?

Today is definitely a Steve Earle kind of day. From Transcendental Blues (2000):

Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Round the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl

We were halfway there when the rain came down
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
And she asked me up to her flat downtown
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl
And I lost my heart to a Galway girl

When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
I've traveled around I've been all over this world
Boys I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl

Fifteen years ago I'm sure this would have been our backroading anthem:

Wake Up, we’re going to the country
Wake Up, we’re going to the country
We’re going to the country and we’ll do it right
Cook up some sweet potatoes and tomorrow night
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite

That’s right, we’re going to the country
Pack Up, we’re going to the country
We’re going to the country and we’ll do it right
Cook up some sweet potatoes and tomorrow night
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite

That’s right
That’s right
That’s right
That’s right

Yer country loving gets me off all right
Yer country loving is complete
Yer country loving gets me off all right
Yer country loving is so sweet

Alright
Alright
Alright
Alright

Wake Up, we’re in the country
Wake Up, we’re in the country
We’re going to the country and we’ll do it right
Cook up some sweet potatoes and tomorrow night
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite

We’re going to the country and we’ll do it right
Cook up a mess of spinach and tomorrow night
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite
We’ll watch the stars dancing with the satellite

Robbie Fulks remains unknown, yet the members of Rascall Flatts are millionaires. There really is no justice in this world.

Robbie Fulks - Let's Kill Saturday Night

Well a dollar I make
Is a buck I owe
And a 40-hour week
Leaves 10 to blow
But every game in this town
Is just nickel-and-dime
And when the sun goes down
It feels like the last time

So down the main drag we ride with the engines open
If there's a fire inside, it's the one thing going

I've got the Mustang loaded
I've got a wrong to right
I've got a little red bullet
Let's kill Saturday night.
Knock it out of its misery
Nail that coffin tight
High living that's history
Let's kill Saturday night.

Well the little man's lot
Is a prince's life
A prince with a lousy job
A prince with a working wife
Something in the big frame's moved
Oh, it never was so hard
To keep a 20 inch tube
And a fenced-in yard

But give me one night with the moon high and the radio pounding
And, brother, this town's gonna go down kicking and shouting.
