If it weren't free and if we didn't have three Star Trek guests coming on the Radio Happy Hour in the next three weeks, I probably would never have seen this movie. star-trek-posters-01.jpg

I realize how awful that would sound to any Trekkie who may be reading this--to them I was a gay guy at a strip club or an American with tickets to The World Cup. But let me tell you, as a relative Star Trek newbie, I thought the movie was amazing!

Set up as a prequel to the original series, Star Trek chronicles James T. Kirk's rise from a hotheaded, bar brawling, green woman screwing, Midwestern punk to heroic captain of the USS Enterprise. We also see the back story beginnings of other Starfleet members including Spock.

I'm sure some inside Trekkie jokes or clever foreshadowing was lost on me but it didn't impact my enjoyment of the movie. J.J. Abrams, who wrote and directed the film, did a masterful job at making this a good stand-alone movie without alienating or talking down to long time fans (at least according to the long time fans I spoke to after the movie and who I witnessed walking out of the theater rather pleased with what they had just seen.)

The action and effects were great. The story was fun. And there was a smattering of comical moments.

If only George Lucas called J.J. Abrams instead of making the Star Wars prequels himself!

It is incredibly sad to me that Susan Boyle has captured the imagination of the entire world. Of course, Boyle is the homely looking 47-year-old unemployed charity worker who lives with her cat in a small village in Scotland that appeared on the UK’s Britain’s Got Talent and surprised everyone with her beautiful singing voice. . .

The Corey Feldman interview begins around the 46 minute mark:

Just Hit Play–>http://www.blogtalkradio.com/DrBlogstein/2009/03/11/Corey-Feldman-on-Blogstein.mp3

corey-feldman.jpgCorey Feldman, clearly the better of "The Two Coreys," had plenty to say about Corey Haim, his longtime friend and co-star in eight movies.

Feldman, who once starred in 15 consecutive #1 releases including GremlinsThe GooniesStand By Me and The Lost Boys, hasn't spoken to Haim in over a year.

"There is no fight," Feldman told Dr. Blogstein's Radio Happy Hour, "People tend to grow up and go their separate ways."

He went on to say: "You can only take things so far and if somebody's not willing to take a look at themselves and find a place for improvement, then you have to smile and walk away."

Feldman also described Haim, who has a long history of drug abuse, as having "erratic behavior" on the set of their A&E reality show The Two Coreys.

Feldman was on the show promoting a new teen drama web series that he is executive producing.

Broken Road, which is set to premiere on March 15 on BrokenRoadTV.com, follows two teenage sisters, Sophie and Chloe Tanner, who move to fictional small town Huntington, Kansas with their mom after their dad is called to fight in the Iraq war.

The program was created and written by 17-year old high school junior Courtney Haigh (pronounce the "G") from Topeka, KS, who also appeared on this week's Blogstein show. In addition to Haigh, much of the cast and crew are also teenagers from Topeka.

Ed Asner recently joined the cast as "Principal Earl Tanner."

http://www.drblogstein.com/2009/02/jeff-conaway-im...

When the world last saw “Grease” and “Taxi” star Jeff Conaway, he was in a wheelchair and slurring obscenities at Dr. Drew while being thrown out of Celebrity Rehab for getting violent with his girlfriend in the facility. He immediately went home and popped some Oxy. This week, in a world radio exclusive, Conaway declared his sobriety...
