Please help us save our home!!

We have received word my the County Court house which I have documents showing this that my home will be sold if I don't come up with the money. I am trying in so many ways to save it.

Our local paper in Fort Wayne Indiana published an article on our issue this last Sunday.

The article is A Harlan Family seeks help from on High.

My 10 year old daughter is heart broken and wants her home. We are doing all we know how to save it. We have had this home for 18 years since October of 1989 and only had a couple more years to pay on it.

My husband is working at least 50 hours a week and we are selling much of our belongings to come up with money. He had a business go bad a couple of years ago and he is even selling his equipment to come up with some money but, not enough time to get the amount we need.

It is 12,000 for the Mortgage and 12,700 for the Federal taxes who have a lien on the property. With this years tax return $2,000 was taken off the amount but being charged interest and other things.

This family has fundraisers on 2 sites please help out if you can!

Every $1 helps! No contribution is ever too small

Here is her story:

I am a single mother due to the loss of my partner. He was my world. I am in debt due to paying off loans and paying for the funeral expenses. I am trying to get caught up but every time I think I am getting closer, something knocks me down. My kids have needs and they come first of course, right now I am not even able to fully provide their needs, never mind the wants I wish I could maintain. I need help making it right now. I am behind in rental payments, bills and in jeopardy of being evicted. Can you please help a single struggling mom out of this hole?? Any and every donation will bring me closer to where I need to be and will help me regain a bit of sanity too!

She has active fund raisers on Fundable and Microgiving.

On Microgiving this person is required to show proof of need before having her request activated so you can rest assured that it's a real need.  The reason the same request for help shows on many different sites is because the amount is high and it will be best to try to find help in several different areas.  You can monitor both areas to see what has been received already, what has been pledged, and how much is still needed.

Description:
My Mom has stage iv cancer. It is very aggressive and has grown in size and spread to more areas of her liver. She is also having trouble eating because of the cancer in the esophagus. They have put a port in for her chemo but she can't have more than 1 treatment until the dental work is done. The dentist that offered to do it at cost says the cost of the operating room and anesthesia is almost $3000. We are running out of time. I have already raised some money but still have $2000 to go, minus what has been donated on this site already. This chemo is the only chance she has of living longer. I am requesting any amount donation you can afford to give to help hurry this process up so we can at least have a chance of it going in remission. An operation is not an option. Anything you can afford, even just $1 would be appreciated. Please, I know this is a tall order, I want to save my mom's life. Thank you in advance for your consideration. God Bless.

This request is on Microgiving and has been verified by the Microgiving team as a valid need.  You can donate anonymously if you choose and DO NOT need to register with the site.

To donate directly look carefully, under the button that says "Sign up" there is one just below that says "Direct Donate"

She is nearly out of time!  We need this money in the next 2-3 days.  Here is the most recent update

Update on Mom
Hi, just wanted to give an update, don't have much time, because I'm trying to spend most of my free time talking to my mother right now, I'm not sure how much longer she'll be able to vocalize because of the portion of the cancer in her esophagus, it is starting to choke her.
This has been a long 3 weeks for our family. Thank you everyone for your support and for putting up with me and my limited knowledge of how this all works, I do so appreciate it. This isn't a goodbye because in the very near future I plan on opening up a donor account on here.
I guess what I need to say, but what breaks my heart to say it is, we're out of time. I have the money being sent to her that we have raised thus far and it will be enough to cover a portion of the dental bill and for that I am truly grateful. We didn't get it all done, but thanks to you, this site and a few other anonymous donors and friends, we ended up only $1182.00 short of the mark, which was a blessing. It at least lessens the risk during the chemo of the septic shock, and hopefully with a portion of the dental work done, her oncologist will feel that it is enough damage control and recommend that she continue with it.
I don't know how much longer I'll be able to be with my mother, but thanks to you, it has given me some extra time, that I know. I can't measure it in days or weeks...but all I know is that even if it were just one extra week, that is priceless.
I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and I will check in here as I can to update you and hopefully chat in the forums. Other than that, I will be spending every extra second I have with Mom. Not quite ready to give her up yet.
If anyone out there would like to still donate to my mother, you probably can do so up until after Tuesday. That would still be in the time frame to get as much of the dental work done as possible, and the more she is able to pay for, the safer it is to get the chemo.
Thank you all and God Bless You.
I know Michelle will not be happy with this but my email is kenziesmyheart@yahoo.com . Personal info I know, but feel free to contact me anytime, and sorry Michelle, I'll take it off IF I have to!! :-)
Love you all,
Tammy

Our kitchen has suffered some losses recently. About two years ago we lost our cooktop stove but we learned how to go on. It was hard, but we managed. We got an electric fry pan, a crock pot, a deep fryer that I use to boil pasta and a few other odds and ends. Eventually we got a used toaster oven and life was good.

Well...just recently my toaster oven died....we grieved, but life went on and we still had other appliances in our life to make our life a good one. We thought the hard times were over, but then our other appliances started failing, a cord died on one appliance, the appliances themselves were not performing well, not heating up all the way, cutting out when I was cooking something. We knew it was just a matter of time...

Then it happened. My cord welded itself to my wall socket. I’m not an electrician but I just didn’t think that was a good sign. Unhooked everything, shut the power down, disassembled the socket, removed the defect, and saved the outlet. We lost the cord though. We knew this day was coming, but we were just not prepared for it to come so soon after the loss of our other cord.....sniff....we just thought we would have more time.

So...my counter has a large empty space, where once it was filled with every tool needed to satisfy a family of four....only a microwave remains.

It’s been a sad month for our kitchen

I have my new Mobility Scooter thanks to Microgiving and Ebay Giving Angels.

As soon as the weather was nice I took my trip to Hopeland Gardens in Aiken SC

Here are a few pictures of that trip:

I have a wheelchair now but still needed a scooter. I can't propel a wheelchair by myself due to a disability which affects my left hand.  I kinda fell through the cracks because I do not need nor want a scooter for inside home use.  I can get around my house with the use of my walker.  I needed the scooter to get out of my house, but that is not covered by medicaid.  Thanks to some wonderful organizations I will be getting my new scooter.

When my partner gets her income tax refund we will get a carrier because I will need to lug around a Rollator, Wheelchair, Scooter and crutches...and all I have is a Chevy Lumina!...Hmmm maybe it's time for a van.

This comes just in time for spring so I can visit Hopeland Gardens
again and also in time for the Downed Riders benefit that my motorcycle rights organization will be doing.  Perfect timing to jump...or roll....back into life!

I have battled knee problems since my early teens and for the past 10 years my legs have been failing.  I knew a few years ago that I would be losing my ability to walk independently by around age 35 but when that age came and went I was still fighting and thought I could pull off another few years...well I am 39.  I still won...I wasn't off my feet at 35, but well....I was having more trouble dealing with the loss of freedom than I expected I would have and when I started getting cramped inside my home I reached out and I'm glad I did.

The organizations were very thorough.  They had me upload proof of my need, proof of where I live and evidence that I have a disability that results in an inability to walk independently.  I was able to provide all the evidence necessary.  I'm very impressed with their screening process and give this place my full respect.  The screening process makes it possible for people who really do need the help to get it as it filteres out those who are just looking to take advantage of good people.

Rambling thoughts...

I had a knee injury when I was a teen ager, it never healed correctly.  Over time the poor healing led to very early arthritis which is called secondary osteoarthritis.  One knee started it all my left knee, but due to the early degeneration of my knee it caused damage to my other knee and my right hip.

Now I am 39 and both of my knees are ruined and my hip is gaining on me.  I have ligament laxity and a pronounced knee hyperextension in both knees which requires me to wear range of motion braces for the limited amount of standing and walking I am able to do.  I rely on a walker to get around since using only one crutch and bearing all my weight on it was doing damage to my shoulder.  I can't use both crutches due to an unrelated injury to my left hand which left that hand too weak to use with a crutch.

I wanted a mobility scooter so I can do things outside of my home like shop at goodwill, salvation army, yard sales.  Visit the boanical gardens, enjoy events with my local organization or just go for a walk with my partner....I can't get one on medicaid because you must need one INSIDE your home.  It will not be authorized if you need it only for doing things outside of your home.  I don't need one inside my home.  I probably won't hopefully for a good long time either, but this restriction means I am trapped inside my home!

I won't argue with the restriction.  It's there to make sure those who cannot stand or walk without the use of a wheel chair will always have the funds available.  They deserve this and I wont try to say the restriction is unfair.

What I am looking for is anyone who knows if there are any programs for those who are not (and probably won't be) eligible for one through medicaid/medicare?  I know I can buy one second hand, I just can't afford to buy one second hand and chances are I wont be able to do that for a good long time.  I still have two children (one is a disabled adult, one is 17) to care for.

I am entered in some contests with the hopes of winning a prize to raise the money.  I have some fund raisers set up but have not received any donations and more than likely I wont because many really think it's petty or greedy to want help in getting a scooter when they can move around their house without one....they..and rightfully so would rather see someone who can't move at all get one.  I can't blame those who think that way.  I'm sure there was a time in my life when I thought that way too.

So..any ideas.  Also please don't flame me for wanting this.  I already know it's pretty selfish, but please allow me my selfish expressions for now while I am trying to deal with accepting that my last fall in October has changed my life.  I fall often, that just comes with having unstable knees, but this time an ordinary fall wasn't ordinary it was the last fall my legs could take.  I'm dealing with it but for the last few weeks I have grown angry and depressed that I just can't go out and do anything!

Have you ever heard of using recycled tired to build a house?  Many who know me know my partner and I have a dream of homesteading.  We were interested in straw bale huts, yurts and a tipi for my son.  Someone on another site wrote to me and suggested recycled tires.  As she said, it would be good for recycling and we could probably get them for free.  I have never heard of it, but it sounds really interesting.  If anyone has links or info about making a house from recycled tires please share it.
