Friends and family,

We just finished up the worship service at Mountainview Assembly of God. This was the first time I was able to have my brother and newest member of One Body, Darrell Williams to play music with me.

I am unashamed to say I couldn't hold back my tears doing service. If you've never heard of "Most the movie," I suggest you check it out asap. wwwmostthemovie.com

The Holy Spirit definitely had his way, as usual, things didn't go quite in the order that we planned, but we followed God's instructions.

I hope to see some of you next time.

God bless,
One Body

Yes, your big day is here. It is your  first show. You've been practicing and hopefully praying about how to conduct yourself. Ever since you started making Christian music there have been very distinct differences between you and the secular industry.

Those differences do not become similarities during your show. Yes, it is true, you want your audience to be entertained in order to keep their attention. At the same time, you must remember who you are and whose you are. God deserves all of your praise.

Don't be afraid to make a joyful noise. If you express how you feel towards God through your excitement, then the audience will be compelled to respond with the same fervor. Trust the Father and let your focus remain on Him through out the show.

Be mindful of the situation. You may sing that one track that everyone considers to be an emotional song. Then you may notice a few people crying with hands uplifted. Listen to the Holy Spirit and He will guide you to know what to do next. You may need to extend the opportunity to get to know Jesus. Never assume that everyone in a church knows Jesus.

This is why as a Christian artist, your shows will be more than just a performance. It will be a movement to bring more souls to Christ.

Choose to Praise rather that just perform.

Instruments:

This message is geared towards those who don't have any instruments or lack the knowledge to play an instrument fluently. There are many options out there to create realistic sounds without the use of a live instrument.

The easiest platforms deal with digital technology. You can acquire various beat machines and computer based software. My personal favorites are Pro Tools ($250.00-25,000.00) and FL Studio ($150.00-450.00). With both of these programs, depending how much time you have to dedicate, you can begin making music instantly and it will be as simple as clicking notes.

If you don't care much for precision clicking, which can become tedious, you may want to invest in a midi controller. In order to achieve the highest possible results from these programs, I suggest researching the usage of basic plug-ins such as reverb, delay or phasing. I am an alumni and current student of Berklee College of Music. This is a great place to start piecing together your future career as a producer.

Keep in mind, that these messages are meant to jumpstart you not sustain you. If you have questions about any items or products I have addressed feel free to contact me. Also look for different music production forums such as www.tweakheadz.com or www.harmonycentral.com.

I'll start with the most common question I've heard.

1. What equipment should I buy?

In a home setup for beginners you have some bare necessities. They will vary depending on your goals and what you hope to accomplishment. I will break it into three categories: Vocal production, Instrument recording and Mixing and Mastering.

Obviously as a beginner you run into some setbacks. One is finances. What can you afford without sacrificing quality? Another is knowledge or experience.

Vocal Production: It is a given that you will need a microphone. With so many apparent choices, you're stuck wondering which one is best for you. I'll avoid the entire technical lingo and tell you my personal preference.

For vocals I usually choose a condenser mic. In saying that I must also mention that every condenser mic is not a good choice. A good rule of thumb to remember is that you always get what you pay for. If you are that recording artist who keeps asking, "How can I make my music sound more professional?" you can usually answer that question by referring to your mic.

I started with a $49.99 MXL condenser mic. I used a PV6 for my preamp ($79.99). I think MXL is a decent brand but this particular mic will not help you achieve that "professional sound." From there I upgraded to an AT2020 ($100.00). While the mic was a better choice than the MXL, something was still lacking.

After doing some research I learned that my preamp was far from professional. I decided to go ahead and spend what, at the time, I considered to be a large amount of money on a better quality preamp. I chose the Grace 101 preamp ($499.99-750.00). In my excitement, I immediately hooked up all of my new toys and tested them out. Combining the Grace 101 and AT2020 brought awesome results! I was shocked to say the least. This is when I first learned the lesson about getting what you pay for.

This is also what led me to my next purchase of the BLUE Bottle mic (500.00). I can hear some you saying, "I can't afford that equipment right now." Don't worry future producers. There are alternatives. My original setup, with the exception of the MXL worked out fine. I recorded my first demo with the AT2020 and the PV6. It's not just the equipment you have but also your knowledge to operate it all.

I've always used computer software to create, mix and master all of my music. I've used Acid Pro, Pro Tools 7.4, FL Studio and a few others. I would love to go into detail about each of them but that will take forever.

I will continue on Monday, May 19, 2008 with "Instrument Recording." I will cover in that lesson proper mic positioning and alternative for those of us who can't play or don't have an instrument.

If you have any questions about home music production send me a message.

For those of you who are new to home recording or music production in general, you now have a reliable source to further your knowledge.

Not sure which piece of equipment to buy next? Over the next few weeks, I will begin detailing different home studio setups. No matter what style of music you make Rhythm and Word Ministries has the advice you need.

Don't allow yourself to be deceived into thinking that our heavenly Father is pleased with anything less than our best.

Stay tuned as I start our first topic this Friday!

The Power of One

One body, one focus and one plan
One God,all sin piled up on one man

One view being taught through out the one church
And if one member falls down, everybody hurts

One mind behind the whole thing
In the beauty of Holiness serving the one king

One way to escape your pain.
One source of all power rides on one name

One life to dedicate to Christ
So I chose to reach the lost by using the mic.

Stand tall in the midst of the storm
Then everybody can carry on when the thunder is gone

If you got four groups working in four ways
To do one thing it takes them four days
But if the four groups just work together
They'll be done in one day and ready for the next level

Listen to the race to learn how to run
Its time for all of us to understand the power of one

The Files of Your Life

Imagine going into a room with file cabinets on a wall.
The wall is 20 feet wide and thirteen feet tall.

Written at the top of the wall is your name, big and bright,
And in the files are the different things you did through out your life.

You notice one file titled, "The Things That I Stole,"
Then you see another file called, "The Lies That I've Told."

You open the file of lies to see what you did wrong,
And to your surprise the file is thirty three feet long.

You read over some of them with regrets in your head.
You notice you once told twelve lies because you forgot the first one you said.

You look down three rows and open a file called "Thoughts and Deeds."
You quiver because you can't believe what you began to read.

You're embarrassed of the sexual content...(in the air you feel a breeze)
As you close it, you peek over your shoulder to make sure no one else was there to see.

SUddenly you notice a file glowing as bright as light.
This file contains just how much you shared the Gospel of Christ

When you opened up this file, it brought you pain just to peek.
Because the most important file of all, was only two inches deep.

Painfully you kneel in the corner and tightly shut your eyes.
You think about everything you saw, as you begin to cry.

You look up to see Jesus looking through the files that you have.
You say, "No Savior, don't look, those files are way too bad!"

He turns and glances at you with a painful smile.
Then He turns back around to finish looking through the files.

While looking at the files, crying, Jesus still found the love.
To sign each and every one of the files with His name in Blood.

Jesus Christ

As He finishes the last one, He kneels down to sit with.
Then He whispers in your ear..."It's Ok now, I forgive you."

You Just Don't Get it!

Is it really truth that you seek,
Or are you looking for confirmation to your own conclusions?

Are you really that deep,
Or do you just pretend to be holy for the sake of amusement?

You say you've matured in the Lord because you've been chastised,
But this is your fourth time going to be baptized.

Your lack of faith is evident, you worry too much
And you pass on discouragement to every person you touch.

The same nature in Christ, now lives within us

The Holy Spirit is the key, you must be filled up with it.
It's a shame, all this time and you still don't get it.

You ask how can you love everyone, enemies and friends?
First realize, the enemy's not the person, it's the sin.

So when they stab you in the back and you long for vindication
Look past the person and know it's the sin in operation.

Oh ok, now you see, but you don't fully understand.
You still think what Jesus did wasn't done as a man.

You think He performed the miracles on this earth as a God.
If that was the case, then Christ would be a fraud.

Just as He healed sick people as a man
My Savior was killed by sick people as a man.

Take a walk with me, son, listen close if you can.
He reapplied a man's chopped off ear with His hand
Told a rich young ruler that he could be born again
Praised on a donkey while they waved palms like a fan
Trained twelve great men and did it all as a man.

What I just said is about as clear as it can get.
You don't understand? Let's rewind a lil bit.

The Holy Spirit is the key, you must be filled up with it.
It's a shame, all this time and you still don't get it.

Darius
