BIG NEWS!!!

i'm finally able to tell you all about the show i'm appearing on! yes, it already aired in canada, but now "making it big" is coming to america! it's basically like "the apprentice" for singer/songwriters. i'm one of three finalists selected from across the us/canada to compete on a challenge for a chance to be mentored by an industry icon. i won't spoil the ending, but so far here are the times it is scheduled to air, with more to be announced.

Saturday April 5th @ 11am
Thursday April 10th @ 9am
***UPDATE*** Friday April 18th @ 8am

you can check for reruns at the show's official site:

since the new profile makeover, some of you have asked "what's up with the asterisk on your logo?"

glad you asked.

whenever you see an asterisk (*) it usually clues you in to look for the footnote somewhere down below. it kinda says "but wait... there's more!"

i feel like i've always had this giant asterisk hanging over my life and my music saying "but wait... you haven't seen all of me yet! i've got more up my sleeve and if you'll just keep looking, keep checking back, the best is yet to come."

i wish this for all of you, too. you're never finished. there's always going to be more to you, more to your story, more to your life. today is not where your story ends. today is where your story begins.

live your life like it has an asterisk.

well it's almost 5am and sascha is making a fuss, so i'm getting up. i'm feeling particularly introspective this morning, so here's what's swirling around my head...

i'm trying to figure out what comes next. i never really set out on this whole musical journey with a clear set of plans except to write songs that i love. i've been doing a lot of that over the past months, and i feel like i've written some of my best stuff lately. but with the new baby and all, i had to sell off my recording gear, so i don't have a way to record my new stuff.

side note: if any of you know of a studio who'd be willing to hook me up (like for free) let me know cause i'm dying to get these new tunes out.

now that my son is here, i'm not sure i want to spend the next few years on the road. in fact, i'm pretty sure i don't want that life right now. this is sorta what killed the discussions i was in with the last label, but i'm not going to change my priorities because someone dangles a record deal in front of me. i am who i am and that's okay.

i guess i'm not coming to any solid conclusions right now, but it's good therapy for me to stir this around for a while. i wish i could talk more about "making it big" cause more of this would make sense to you (at least those of you who aren't from canada and haven't already seen the show).

by the way--do you guys like the new profile makeover? i thought it looked pretty dope when it came out. hope you agree 8~)

anyway, thx for all the support--you guys make it all worthwhile!

whats up everyone! it's been WAY too long since i actually took the time to update my blog. my official site is even farther behind but i owe all you guys a long-overdue update. so here's the short version...

last fall i was selected to compete against 2 other singer/songwriters selected from across the us/canada on a show called "making it big". it's basically like "the apprentice" where you have a challenge and there can only be one winner. anyway, it has been airing in canada for a large part of 2007, however i can't say much about the show publicly since there is still a bidding war going on for the distribution rights in america. and for all my canadian friends--no spoiling it for the yanks! it's great suspense and a really well-produced show. more on that when i'm able to talk about it....

found out in late 2006 that my wife and i were going to have a baby, so since then, every spare minute has been spent in preparation for sascha scott's big debut! he finally made his entrance (or exit, depending on how you look at it) on 7/27/2007. if you're already on my friend list you can read all about it on my blog entry "it's a boy". he's over 2 months old now and every minute has been a blast!

that's all for now... i'll post more updates soon....

happy new year! if you've been wondering where i went, here's the story...

basically, my myspace account got suspended for sending out too many emails per day, so i was off of myspace for a couple months there. i finally got the myspace ppl to turn my account back on, but i've been so busy that i haven't had time to tell all of you about all the stuff that's been happening lately.

i was selected to appear on the tv show, "making it big" which is sorta like the apprentice for singer/songwriters. i'll tell you all more later, but it was an awesome opportunity that opened some very important doors.

i've been writing a ton of songs lately and was able to record a demo of my new song "under the surface" for free as part of a special promotion at rick quest studios. (so if you're a musician who is looking for a good quality demo, def check out rick's work)

anyway, i hope all of you had a great holiday season and i hope your new year is slammin! stay tuned for more big news!

i know it's been a while, but i've been so slammed i haven't had a moment to write anything new in the last couple months. i even forgot to tell you guys I WON!!! i'm now one of the 6 new faces of kms california haircare products.

it was a crazy weekend in nyc--they flew the 18 finalists out and put us up in a 4-star hotel in the middle of times square. we had some time to meet eachother and hang out before we had rehearsals for the big final event. everyone was SO cool and nice and we all got along really well, which was really awesome for such an incredibly diverse group of people.

the final event was held at the nokia theatre in the middle of times square and i have to say it's the nicest event i've ever been to! it was so well executed--everything was first-class. each of the finalists had to get onstage before a panel of judges that included the gastineau girls and jess zaino and field some questions. i stepped my game up and busted out my guitar and sang a song in addition to the questions. i guess the judges liked what they heard, because i won.

and if that wasn't enough, later that day, i had a meeting with an a-list music attorney who was the coolest guy. it was just a quick sit-down over some starbucks in grand central station, but it went well and we're still talking.

finally, on the flight back to l.a. as i was taking it all in, thinking about how it doesn't get much better than this, it got BETTER! dana and i were sitting in coach when this guy wandered back from first class looking for the restroom. i commented to dana that the guy really looked a lot like quincy jones. IT WAS! for those of you not familiar with quincy jones, here's an analogy...

quincy jones : music

as

stephen spielberg : movies

he's basically the producer's producer. he has over 70 GRAMMY NOMINATIONS!!! and he's worked with everyone from miles davis to frank sinatra, from ella fitzgerald to michael jackson. so after the in-flight movie, i snuck up to first class and met him. we talked for about 10 minutes about a lot of stuff and he was the most chill guy ever! in the end he gave me an autograph and i gave him a cd. he told me to make sure my contact info was on it and and that he would seriously give it a listen! i haven't heard back from him, but it was the coolest thing just to meet a living legend--i'm still smiling! 8~)

so here's some pics from the kms california contest in nyc. the last pic is of quincy's note to me on my "music connection" magazine:

"to my new bro chris: if you can see it you can be it. go for it. love and props.
- quincy jones"

btw... thanks to chanel for a lot of these pics and also i'll have results from the american idol underground competition in a few days, so look for the bulletin.

this is crazy.

i've been selected as a finalist in yet ANOTHER hair-related contest! hahahahahah!

(i swear i'm straight)

this time it's the "i am kms california" contest. basically, i just found out they're flying me to nyc for a few days (4/24 - 4/26) where i'll be competing against 17 other finalist for a shot a being the next face of the new kms california line of hair products. they've booked the ENTIRE nokia theatre in times square for the final event on tuesday, which will feature celebrity judges lisa and brittny gastineau of the "gastineau girls" and jess zaino of "modern girl's guide to life". and as if that wasn't enough to get me totally excited, there's also gonna be lots of press in attendence--everyone from vogue to vanity fair.

anyway, the point of this blog isn't just to give you guys the latest news... i also need your help. the good folks at kms have opened up this contest to voting, so once again, I NEED YOUR VOTES!

all you have to do to help is just register and vote for me at the contest website (www.iamkmscalifornia.com). just look for the "cast your vote" link at the bottom right and def let me know if you have any questions.

anyway, thanks so much--i always appreciate the support you guys give me!! 8~)

Current mood:  content
wow! what a crazy couple of months this has been! it feels so refreshing to emerge from the studio and get back into the real world. well, actually today it's a little bit surreal. i never thought i'd have 20,000 friends on myspace--not that it's a number that actually counts for anything in this life, but it really felt like something big today when i saw my top 8 box wearing a hat that said 20,000. in fact, ever since i first unveiled the new songs at the roxy show last december, i've felt like some big things are finally happening. i don't know what to call it other than "momentum". i've been making some GREAT contacts lately and my new songs are part of a demo that is landing in the offices of some VERY important people this week. this is why i haven't been playing any shows lately. recording sucks the life out of your schedule. no time to eat, no time to sleep, and certainly no time to book shows and play gigs. but all that will be changing, i promise.

so i'm sending out demos to a few key people this week. i feel like my new songs are really topping the stuff i did on the last album and a LOT of that has to do with the fact that i've got an AMAZING band backing me now. these guys influence how i hear and feel music and i'm never quite as alive as when we're making soundwaves resonate with souls. i owe these guys SO MUCH! they've definitely inspired me to rock much harder--as any of you who have seen our live show can attest! and they've helped my create a whole new sound my songs wouldn't have without them. you hear that fat, nasty, bass funk that kline drops in "torn"? you hear that tight, syncopated backbeat that josh lays down on top of it? or on "capital" where joe rips your heart out with nothing but a pick and a telecaster?

THAT'S where the magic is.

anyway... if you want to buy any of the 3 new songs, look for them at my webstore. you can get them in mp3 or itunes format. they aren't available anywhere else and they're not on any album so this is the only way you can get them for now.

and while i'm in a writing mood.... to all of you who have written me, bummed that "exit wounded" and "way to your heart" are now missing from my profile: i'm sorry. however, it does present a good opportunity to point out that if you're missing it, maybe it's time to buy my cd. then you can enjoy my tunes ANYWHERE!

i guess that's it for now... just one last thought.... when you have a quiet moment, sit down and really listen to my music and know that it's okay to feel again! 8~)

good news: the "red hot rising star" contest results are in!

bad news: i finished second.

i'll admit it... i was pretty disappointed when i first got the call. (so disappointed that i wrote a new song in 20 minutes!) i worked as hard as i could to promote the vote during the contest, touring texas, doing radio and tv, and had a blast doing it. but in the end, all my efforts were outdone by one myspace bulletin that went out to 18,000 people asking them to vote for the girl who won, lauren barrett. and, although i would have liked to update all of you sooner, until last week, the people at vo5 and conde nast forbade me from telling anyone about the developments in the contest. they wanted to make a splash by announcing it in the magazines--and what a splash it's been! right now i've got a 1/2-pg spread in the december issues of:

glamour

allure

teen vogue

jane

lucky

self

that's 6 magazines with 26 MILLION readers!!! and, although i didn't win the contest, there's no losing with that kind of exposure! my most sincere thanks goes out to all of you who supported me with all your emails and especially your votes! you have been terrific and i'm now more inspired than ever to keep working hard on the music i'm so passionate about!

so just what was so secretive that i've been dying to tell everyone? well, in early september the good folks at conde nast notified me that i was in the top 3 and that they would be flying me out to new york for the photoshoot that is now running in all 6 mags. so they flew me out and put us up in the uber-hip gansevoort hotel. we had a driver everywhere we went with privacy glass and the whole v.i.p. treatment--so much fun! anyway, the morning of the photoshoot our driver took us to industria studio 10 where my hair was made-over by one of the top hair guys in the world (he does the hair of all the girls at the sports illustrated shoots). i had a stylist whose assistants spent a week shopping for all my clothes, and a makeup artist who has worked with a-list celebs for years. arguably the best part of the shoot was the photographer! his name is walter chin and he's AMAZING!!! (check out his work here--he's one of the top fashion photographers in the world) as he snapped away, i just smiled and took in the scene--stylists, hair and makeup, the people from vo5 and conde nast, and, or course, assistants everywhere. i'll take that mental image with me to my grave. what a moment, what a day!

we flew back after spending a few more days in nyc to await the results for another couple months. during that time, i've been busy gigging around socal. in oct/nov i've had a full-band show at house of blues and stripped-down acoustic sets at the mint, and the block at orange. i've also got a show at the roxy on dec 14th, and january shows in the works at hotel cafe and room 5. so that brings us to today, when i've just received more exciting news..

i just got a call from the cd replicators and my self-titled debut album is arriving tomorrow, nov 22nd!!! it's been a long time in coming with many delays, but i think you'll agree it's been worth the wait once you hear the album. not only did i write and sing all the songs, but i also played all the instruments, mixed and produced the entire album myself. it's been an all-consuming labor of love for me and it's great to finally see (ummm.... hear) the results of all the hard work. definitely go order yourself one over in the newly revamped official webstore! (and while your at it, pick up one for a friend) as a bonus, if you order a cd before the dec 1st, the price is only $10. and if you just can't wait for the cd, the album is also available as a download in mp3 and apple lossless (itunes) formats for only $8.99!

that's it for now. thanks to everyone who has come out to the shows, pre-ordered the album and added me on myspace--you guys are awesome! this is just the beginning...

WOW!!! august has been one of the busiest months IN MY LIFE! (so sit down--this is gonna be long!) right now i'm in a hotel in nashville rediscovering the stereo waveforms of of ac/dc and rick springfield (well...not simultaneously...). meanwhile, i've actually found a few minutes of downtime to sit down and update the log while i'm out here to shoot my first music video. more on that later, but first, i'm excited to announce that, as of august 16th, the "red hot rising stars" contest is over....well...sorta.... i had previously told you guys that they would announce the winner on august 19th, but as the end of the contest drew closer, i got an email from the good folks at conde nast informing me that due to a surge in "momentum" they wanted to make a "bigger splash" with the announcement of the contest winner... ...in november. 8~( so the bad news is we're ALL going to have to wait to find out who the winner is. the good news is that they really ARE making a bigger splash! you'll remember the winner gets flown to nyc for a september photoshoot that culminates in a full-page spread in 5 mags. well, now they've added "self" to the magazine lineup, bringing the total readers of all 6 magazines to over 26 million! i think an extra 5 million pairs of eyes definitely counts as a "bigger splash". and, as if that weren't enough, the winner is going to be flown to nyc to perform at an intimate november press event for editors. i'd say that's a fair tradeoff for a couple extra months of anticipation. if y'all want to be notified of the winner, you can go to www.vo5style.com and sign up to get an email the INSTANT the winner is announced. either way, i'd like to say i'm just so grateful to each and every one of you who supported me through the entire contest with your votes, emails, and prayers. thank you. each and every one of you. thank you. so where did august go? well, up to the point the contest ended, everything i did revolved around promoting and getting votes. unfortunately that meant that some things like playing shows and the release of my cd had to be put on the back burner for a while. i slapped posters all over long beach promoting the contest. (un)fortunately they do a good job of tearing down posters pretty quickly in the lbc--haha! i travelled to texas for a hometown press blitz. interviews and performances via radio, tv, newspaper, and podcast kept the momentum going to the very end. i also focused heavily on internet promotion with myspace. people have been REALLY receptive to my music, but it's getting to the point where i'm getting like 50 emails a day and i'm averaging 2 hrs/day on myspace. i guess that's probably a good thing. it's tough to keep up, but i think it's important to stay accessible to you guys, so i'll try to keep up as long as i can. the remainder of august has been filled with booking and planning my next big steps. i'm trying to fill up the fall schedule with performances, however, i'm not sure whether the shows will be in the estados unidos or not.... hmmmmm.... there may be some big developments in the air....(although i should point out that air carries almost no weight--haha!) anyway... on to the new album... i haven't had any hate mail or death threats from impatient fans....yet.... but i've run into a few hangups including mastering delays and artwork issues. pretty normal stuff to get delayed i'm told, but i feel guilty that all of you who pre-ordered the cd have had to wait this long, so as soon as we wrap the music video, i'll be shipping out pre-release copies to all who pre-ordered the cd (yes, you'll also get the final release when the cds arrive). anyway, thanks for your patience everyone! now for the REALLY exciting news--my first music video! my cousin raygan, who lives in l.a., is going to be shooting and directing my first video for the song "exit wounded". raygan has had his work nominated for an award at the hollywood film festival (www.flypaperfilm.com) and won best editing at the long beach action on film festival, so it's cool that i'm not just tapping a family member for the job--i'm working with a very talented and creative professional! anyway, right now we're in nashville doing pre-production for the shoot next week. the concept goes like this: i'm playing in a band with like 4 or 5 other "me"s. and that'll be significant only because i really DO play all my own instruments and record/produce all my own songs. there's more to it than that, but for now i'll just say that this video is going to need a LOT of post production! it's gonna be soooooo cool--I CAN'T WAIT!!! the last tidbits i'd like to relate concern my official website, www.christopherscott.net. first of all, i've got some incredible statistics to report! in the month of august MY SITE RECEIVED 283,968 HITS!!! that's an INCREDIBLE jump considering my website address wasn't mentioned ANYWHERE in the competition! at this pace, my bandwith usage is going to way over the limit next month! i guess that's probably a good thing. another good thing i'm excited to announce is the birth of a new webstore! the beta version is undergoing testing right now, and i can assure you--it's gonna rock the socks off my old webstore! one of the cool things i'm going to introduce is paid downloads, which means, of course, that the mp3 section is soon going to be limited to samples and maybe the occasional freebie. the new, mastered versions of the songs sound MUCH better than what i'm currently offering for free anyway, so everybody stands to benefit from the new, improved tracks! i'll also be introducing various new clothes and some super-secret merch stuff that the kids are just gonna love! finally, the coolest (and hottest) new product i'll be selling is my very own ringtones! i'll be offering polyphonic and realtone versions of my tunes. i'm still working out the details, but the new webstore is gonna be like taking am to xm. stay posted.... i'm just getting warmed up... c*
