I wish my fellow Canadians a very happy Canada Day Weekend.

May we all reflect this weekend how blessed we are to be in this beautiful country.

Just ponder what percentage of the world population would love to live here?

Have a safe weekend!

My 3 dogs, with the middle one my blind one.  The only one left now is Nikki, my other two we had to say goodbye to within a few weeks of each other.  We have since adopted a 3 year black lab, Shorty. My blog:

I am in the process of writing a book.  All for our pets.  I have made this year my year to passionately promote Dog Training, for both owners and dogs!

When a dog is trained, everyone benefits.  You don't get all frustrated, the dog is much happier, and society just loves a well behaved dog.

And, dog and pet adoption.  Today is already March 2nd.  Wow, soon it's time that we can take our dogs for long walks.  We need them trained.  We need them to behave  in the new world of social dogs.

I talked to a friend who lost her dog recently.  (I just lost 2 of my precious dogs - Benny & Dukie)

She says that her way to get over her grief is to celebrate their life by writing about the Good, The Funny and even The Aggravating stories of their life!  What a great idea.

I don't know much about boxing.  My husband does.  I didn't know George Chuvalo before I met him at our place; he was one of my husbands sports heroes.

My husband has MS.  It has gotten worse over time.  When you are down with MS,you don't get to make many new memories.  My husband has pretty well been confined to one small place, 24/7 - year after year.  Not many memories there.  But, one day, as a surprise to my husband, my step-son brought George Chuvalo over to meet my husband.  One evening they both just walked through the door un-announced to my hubby. (I knew before-I always have to know before :)

Well, that is just about one of the nicest things that have happened in his life the last few years.  George brought him a signed glove, and we made some pictures, and he signed those too.  Then we just talked.  Then he talked and we listened.  I was mesmerized.

What an amazing man he is.  What a great man he is.  He has managed to take all the sorrow and the sadness and the hurt that he experienced in his life...and he has managed to take that and turn it into helping others.  I mean, how great is that?

And humble.  The man is so humble.  Just talking to him, you would never know who he is.  I for one am now his greatest fan! Not for his sports accomplishments, but for his life accomplishments.  And, for the joy he brought my husband.

DOES YOUR DOG SLOBBER WATER?

Whether or not your dog slobbers water really depends on the shape and structure of the your dog's mouth, lips and jaw. One of our discussion forum members brings up this interesting topic when she asks:

"I have a Alaskan Malamute, 1 year-old, and when he drinks water from his dish he sticks his whole nose in the water and then slobbers all over while he's walking away and gets the floor soaked. Is there a solution to this problem?"

Adam replied, "Unfortunately... not really. It's one of the joys of owning a large dog breed. You might try variations in bucket/dish size, placing it on a raised platform, and using a tarp/placemat under the bowl. Or putting the water dish outside.

My Nikki

Raisins
- Grapes

Vomiting, Diarrhea and perhaps even kidney failure

Sugarless Gum - Sugarless Candy with Xylitol:  This is a substitute sugar product and it can cause seizures in your dog.  Xylitol will cause you dog's blood sugar to suddenly drop.

Onions - Yes onions can cause irritation, anemia gastrointestinal damages and one whole small onion can even cause death!

Macadamia nuts can cause vomiting, mood changes, and even temporary paralysis of the hind legs.  This usually does clear up on its own, but, they are terrible symptoms for your dog to have to go through.

And ... nothing to do with food ... but, a friend of mine has reported the temporary paralysis with his dog from drinking out of the local brook.  He lives on a farm, and the farmer's use of chemicals runs off into the brook, the free running dogs drink it, and bam ... paralysis of the hind legs.  Again, this is also temporary, but still...
