Just a quick note on why we have the song listed in the myspace player as "Rehearsal and Opening Night" when it's actually called "Rehearsal/Opening Night". The myspace song editor won't allow the use of anything but letters in the song titles. So there you go.

Hello Friends, Family, and Fans (and the plethora of bands we've added recently!):

We finally have some new music out, after what seems like a really extended hiatus. We've been working on this pair for a while now, but life, illnesses, and more life got in the way of us getting to the finish line until today.

I wrote the basics of Rehearsal and Opening Night back in 1999. Opening Night was another song about someone who wouldn't go out with me (we've been together for over 8 years and are engaged now, so there you go). The beginning verses are about the actual opening night of a play Julia was in when we met. The second part of that was about us hanging out at the Lava Lounge afterward...me into her in a big way. Her? Not so much into me at that time. Hence the song.

Rehearsal was another song I wrote at that time. Never had anything really decent for words, but had the song structure. It's part of my ongoing Jason Falkner writing phase (I still haven't perfected it. It's a continuing quest...). John heard the Opening Night lyrics I had and when I told him I wanted to marry these two songs together, he came up with the very solid lyrics to what is now called Rehearsal. He also wrote the chorus lyrics and the last verse lyrics as well for the outro. I would have left it maudlin and sad, but he turned it around and gave it hope at the end. Kind of fitting since we worked this all out right before Julia and I got engaged in September. I know...not very rock 'n roll and probably TMI, but that's me...

Both John and I hope this new release was worth the wait. We really love both of these songs and feel they represent our best work to date.

John and I have been working feverishly on a new song. It's slow going, but believe me, it'll be worth the wait! It's a two part song and is the longest piece we've recorded to date. The two parts come from two songs I wrote the music (and a few words) for back in '98. They have been gathering dust since then, though one had a part of it used as an instrumental for one of Julia Radochia's short films, "Like His Father". Click on Julia's page in our friends section and check out what she has going on.

Anyway, just wanted to post an update here on the myspace page. Our next two released songs are going to be so cool!

So we have recorded a new song called "Today Is The Night". It's actually another of my backlog of music never previously used. I wrote the music for this back in '99 and never got anywhere with it. When I played it for John, he got all excited and wanted to give it a shot as a Suitcase Poets song. So I laid down the basic tracks and John came up with some really great lyrics. Those lyrics hit pretty close to home for both of us. They come from things that John and I are currently working through in our lives. I think a lot of folks can relate to the message here.

This song is the first look at our new direction. I sincerely hope that folks will like where we're taking this and will derive some enjoyment out of the songs. We've got more coming, so keep checking back. We'll also post bulletins when the new songs are posted.

For our fourth song, Jeremy went back into the archives and plucked Ready2Roll from a film he worked on.  We took out the vocals, extended the song, and I wrote Hole in the Soul to fit the vibe Jeremy laid down.  Enjoy!

Jeremy here again. A little late on the trigger with the blog about the NEW SONG, but here it is. Strange Summer (Dream) is another one of my backlog of songs I started writing maybe 15 years ago. Over the years I've added the bridge to it and finally recorded it last year with temp vocals and lyrics. I used this for Julia Radochia's new film, "I Just Want To Eat My Sandwich" http://www.myspace.com/houseofhugsprod as score music (instrumental version) and when we showed the film to John, he flipped and wanted me to send him the music immediately if not sooner. So I did and a few weeks later he came in with the lyrics and vocal parts nearly completed. He wrote the ending on the spot and then I did the backing vocal parts and some final mixing. Most of the tracks for this song are first takes, so it's far from perfect. But it was good and it was a momentum builder for us to get this song up right away, so there you have it. Both John and I are really excited to have these songs out and are working diligently on a few more (coming soon!). Again, I'll be blogging and posting bulletins about each song as it comes up. Hope you are enjoying the music as much as we are.

Jeremy here. Leave Me Alone is now available for a listen or two here on the Suitcase Poets myspace page. This version was done for a short film by Julia Radochia called "I Just Want To Eat My Sandwich". I had the basic tracks done a few years ago and John came in with the good lyrics we needed to get the ball rolling. Check out Julia's House of Hugs Productions myspace page here:

That's some shameless self promotion on my part as I'm a big old part of that Production company and actually was the Director of Photography for "Sandwich". =)

More songs will be up here soon. John's got a million words and I have a million tunes...something will come of that! We've already got another in the hopper. It's got a Pink Floyd/STP feel to it. Kind of ballady and moody. Can't wait to see what John brings to the table on this one when we get together next. His ideas set me off in all kinds of odd directions. This collaboration is pretty damn good.
