Top Reggae songstress Etana invaded the United Kingdom last week to promote three hot singles from her yet to be titled sophomore release: "August Town," "Free" and "Happy Heart." On her highly anticipated visit, Etana was warmly greeted by fans and leading radio personalities. Just 24 hours after shooting the video for "Free" in Jamaica, Etana landed in UK and jump started an intense radio blitz. Etana's first interview was with none other than the legendary David Rodigan at London's famed Kiss FM, followed by an interview with BBC Radio 4. Etana was provided with the unique opportunity of reaching a very wide audience with her interview on BBC Radio 4, a mostly news-formatted (non-music) station that is considered BBC Radio's flagship. The station was extremely interested in interviewing Etana because of her crossover appeal.
The soulful crooner also had a slew of memorable in-studio interviews with top radio jocks like Robo Ranx and Silver Star of BBC Radio 1xtra and Daddy Ernie of Choice FM. As Etana traveled from town to town, each area claimed a different Etana song that they loved. In addition to commercial radio stations, Etana visited and interviewed with over 20 pirate stations through out the UK. The demand to interview Etana was great, which ensured her UK experience was fully loaded. Much to Etana's credit, fans inundated the airwaves for a chance to talk with her.
"The DJs were so surprised to see me hand delivering my new music," says Etana. "Most of them thought that we were here for a show.....no one believed that we were promoting new singles without having a show."
"The Strong One's" latest singles perfectly display three distinct moods of her musical talent. "Happy Heart" is a gem of a love song and "Free" is an inspirational track, bursting with emotion. Meanwhile, on the other side of the spectrum, "August Town" addresses social issues surrounding Garrison communities. All three tracks are hard hitting and have been embraced in the UK. "We decided to push these three singles because Etana's next album will boast diversity," says Garfield "Chin" Bourne of Irish and Chin. "It will feature the best in Roots, Rock, Reggae and Dubwise. And an array of other music genre will be explored."
Irish and Chin, Etana's management team, has set up a very intense promotional tour to further push Etana's new singles. Promotional efforts include videos for each single and heavy radio, tv and print media blitzes in key Reggae markets. Etana's next stop will be in St. Vincent and surrounding islands, followed by a U.S. run.Etana's groundbreaking debut Strong One (VP Records) was heralded by critics and fans alike, receiving several noteworthy accolades and awards. Based on the vibes from the latest music, there is no doubt that Etana's follow up effort will elevate her fresh brand of soul Reggae even higher.

For popular Reggae singer Etana, the month of November has been chock-full of excitement. It's been non-stop action for "The Strong One," who jump started an intense promotional campaign with a video shoot for her compelling new single "August Town" and promotional tour in the Caribbean.
The video shoot for "August Town" went off with a bang. With August Town as the setting for the video, the Director vividly captured the realness of August Town and Etana herself. Members of the community played a key role in the video, which brings "August Town's" tell-tale lyrics to life. Fans will be thoroughly entertained by the "August Town" video, which will air on all major Caribbean TV outlets later this month.
Fresh off the heels of the "August Town" video shoot, the soulful crooner touched down in Trinidad, Antigua and Barbados this past weekend for the first leg of her promotional tour, dedicated to introducing her dynamic new music to the media and fans. With a string of TV, print and radio interviews lined-up, Etana promoted new music including "August Town," "Free" and "Happy Heart."
During the Caribbean media blitz, Etana was professionally to meet the DJs that have embraced her music over the years. Furthermore, the songstress was thrilled to put a face to her music and name. According to Etana,"It was great meeting face-to-face with members of the media, who have supported my music." "These are the people that have the power to make or break your music...it's important that they receive my new music first hand," Etana added.
"Many artists take DJs and radio jocks for granted, yet these are the people solely responsible for planting and nurturing the seeds of artists" says Etana's manager Garfield "Chin" Bourne of Irish and Chin, Inc. "Because I started as a sound man, I will always respect a DJ's role and encourage my clients to do so as well."
Much to Etana's credit, the Caribbean media professionals displayed an outpouring of love and support to her. And to make the promotional visits even more worthwhile, there was an overwhelming amount of positive feedback to Etana's new music. Humbled by this, Etana took part in each interview with ease. On the Irish and Chin organized promotional tour, which will span over the next three months, Etana will also visit England and key markets in the United States.
"This promotional tour is an ideal vehicle of further exposing my music to the media and fans," says Etana. "It's a career first for me to embark on an effort solely designed to promote my new music."
This week, Etana will return to Jamaica to film a video for "Free." The video, which will be shot by famed director JayWil, is set to vividly depict the chanteuse's new beautiful ballad. Meanwhile, a video for the sensuous single "Happy Heart" will be filmed soon. Etana's highly anticipated sophomore album is scheduled for a Summer 2010 release on VP Records. Surely, this effort will replicate the success of her debut album The Strong One, which was heralded by fans and critics alike -- copping numerous awards including "Album of the Year" at the 2009 International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) in New York and Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards (EME) in Jamaica.

As a part of a massive promotional campaign to be launched by Irish and Chin, the soulful Reggae singer Etana will shoot a video for her riveting new single "August Town." The video, which is one of three planned in November, will be filmed on Wednesday, November 4 in August Town, Jamaica to much fanfare.
Over the past month, the song "August Town" has been heating up Caribbean radio and faring exceptionally well in the UK and Europe. The incredible buzz that the song has generated was a driving force behind shooting the video. In "August Town," Etana delivers piercing social commentary -- detailing a recent incident in her community that went from festive and merry to horrific in a split second. Etana flawlessly croons of police involvement that resulted in excessive and unnecessary force. Like none of Etana's other music, "August Town" is built over a raw dubwise track – a style heavy on drum, bass and dub effects with very sparse rhythm.
To capture the "rawness" of the single, Etana pegged popular music video director Winston "Tyson" Mayhew for the video project. Credited for his style of rough, hardcore videos like Busy Signal's "These are the Days" and "Jail," along with Morgan Heritage's "Nothing to Smile About" and others, Mayhew was the perfect person to bring the song "August Town" to life.
August Town itself will serve as an ideal backdrop for the video. It will feature a gripping reenactment of the song's lyrics, depicting August Town in its realest form. Ultimately, the "August Town" video will expose the beauty shots to hardcore elements, Mayhew will display the communities good and bad times. Members of the August Town community will be featured through out the video, as well as a few special guests.
"I especially want this video to help bring August Town back to what it once was, a peaceful place," says Etana with passion. "This video will speak to the people of August Town and all Garrison communities."
Fans will have a chance to see another side of Etana. The singer will be featured in a homegrown environment.....like she has never been seen before. Overall, the video will capture the real Etana as a person, rather than an artist. "I think that showing Etana in a different light will truly be one of this video's major highlights," says Winston "Tyson" Mayhew.
The videos that will follow "August Town" include "Free" and "Happy Heart." These three songs were strategically selected by Irish and Chin and Etana, as they explore Etana's diversity as an artist. While "August Town" falls under social commentary, "Free" and "Happy Heart" expose an emotional and feminine side of Etana respectively. "Free" will be shot by JayWil on November 10 and "Happy Heart's" production will take place after Etana's promotional tour in London later this month.

Often infused with messages and real life stories, Etana’s music is credited with moving all who listen. Riveting songs like “Wrong Address,” “Roots,” “Not Afraid” and the latest single “August Town” stay true to Etana’s signature style. But beyond the soulful singer’s love of music, lies a passion to help the youth. And through out her impressive career, Etana has taken pride in inspiring and motivating youth through music and many other efforts. Morevoer, the soulful songstress is especially vested in empowering young girls.
“I have always taken a special interest in the youth as they hold the key to the future,” says Etana sincerely. “I am particularly driven to encourage young girls since they often don’t recognize their full potential because of some of society’s stereotypical roles placed before them.”“Overall, I want young girls to hold their heads up high and embrace their power……I typically tell them that they can do any and evertyhing once they put their mind to it,” the singer adds.
With seeds deeply rooted in the youth, Etana regulary talks to The Young Reggae Girlz, Jamaica’s under 17 and under 20 female soccer teams. A hit among the team members, Etana shares music and life experiences with the team and encourages the girls to respect themselves so that others can respect them. Etana indicates that a major part of “respect” comes with abstinence. Further, the artist lets the Girlz know that it’s okay to be strong black women. But no talk is complete with out focusing on the central theme of education. A critical component, the artist declares “education is the greatest way to overcome poverty and be successful.”
Motivational talks with the Reggae Girlz are just a snippet of Etana’s commitment to the youth, as she regularly visits schools through out the world. No matter where Etana is performing, she goes out of her way to visit schools in the respective area. While the youth are too young to attend most of her performances, she brings entertainment directly to them by dropping in on surprise visits. Regularly, Etana sings some of her best known selections and intermittently motivates the classroom to pursue an education, stay focused and make good decisions. She continuously lets the classrooms know that all things are possible with education.
In addition to these independent efforts, Etana is now a featured artist on the RE School Tour. Recently, the powerful Etana commanded the standing room only crowd at the Tour’s first stop at St. Andrew’s Technical High School in Kingston, JA. There, “The Strong One” belted out a string of hits to the 700-plus crowd and was ever-so amused when students sang the lyrics verbatim. Although Etana was pegged for a 3-song set, the crowd’s overwhelming response made her stay to perform 2 more songs.
Through out her set, Etana consistently delivered the message of abstinence and staying in school to the youth and thanked the teachers for diligently molding and shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Etana is slated to perform on the tour each Tuesday that she is in Jamaica until the tour’s end in mid-November. Etana willingly joined the RE School Tour for a second time because it’s platform is directly in tune with her efforts involving youth.
Etana’s work involving youth is ongoing. It is the singer’s utmost goal to launch a youth-driven foundation in the future centered on the themes of education and empowerment. Plans for this foundation, which will formalize Etana’s efforts, will begin soon.

Gone are the days when artist used to use a backing band who can't play the music or simply take music for a hustle/joke. Back in the days musicians used to play music from the heart. I know this because of how the music makes me feel when I hear it. In this time these great musicians are far and few in between. I have been lucky enough to meet most of the few but once in a while I bump into some of the them and those who don't take music seriously and some people expect in the name of professionalism the artist should smile and take a bow like a politician. I can't say I have never done that though even when I'm really peeved about them messing up my music but in miami I had to say "people that's why artist should have their own band to avoid their music being played like this" I was told the band has been rehearsing the music for more than a month but something happened and two of the musicians left leaving two band members to jump in at the last minute but show business is no joke for me and that is just unacceptable.
We need to get back to the days when music meant something for everyone in it. We need to get to loving music again. It's more than just a hustle. It's our history, future, changes moods and emotions. Music is life.
