Stony Browder Jr. and Cory Daye and Coatimundi and August Darnell were big fans of Miriam Makeba.
August and Mundi sincerely mourn her passing but they celebrate her contribution to and influence in their world. Her passion and zealous musical outpouring will live forever in the music of KID CREOLE and the COCONUTS and many many other bands and singers and artists.
May the gods continue to bless her legacy forever and a day.

Thought I should tell you about our last gig we did last Sat 5th Sept in Brussells...
So after a short pleasant flight from London to Brussells we arrive at our very large, very busy hotel in the centre of Brussells to find hundreds of incredibly fit Olympic athletes wandering around the huge lobby, some eating in the huge buffet in the centre, and some looking for their names on the timetables for their various races, be it 100 metres, or high jump event. Myself and Louise searched for our names but couldn't find them anywhere!!!! So we thought we must be here for a gig, luckily, and not a 400 metres sprint, phew !
So we all went up to our rooms for a power nap to refresh the body after getting up at 4am for a very early flight, in readiness for soundcheck....
We were driven to our sound check venue, not really thinking what sort of scale it would be, recently they have been huge, 10, 15, 20,000 people. And then we rocked up to 'the venue' to see an enormous 47,000 seater open topped amazing stadium right before our eyes, and our hearts suddenly began beating very fast!!! Wow we thought!! this is huge!! I hope I have my best outfit on? I hope I know all the correct moves?? I hope....it was all going through our heads! And soundcheck we did with an excellent local band, who had obviously rehearsed their socks off and did a great job, and we didn't even care that it was heavily raining ,creating lovely puddles all over the stage because we were imagining how it was going to feel tonight when the huge stadium before our eyes would be filled with 47,000 screaming sports fans all waving and cheering for the incredible athletes fresh from Beijing and then afterwards, cheering for us !!!! Ah now the butterflies kick in, but only for a minute then it's just pure excitement!! And back to the hotel for dinner in the large buffet amongst lots of incredibly fit, toned athletes, None of us ate dessert!!!!
And the preparation ceremonies began...
We arrive down to the lobby for pick up at 9pm to be told we have a police escort to the stadium to ensure we get there on time on this very important night for Brussells, the second largest Track and Field event in the world I was told. A police escort we thought wow this does not even happen to Madonna in London! But didn't think it would be no less than 15 police bikes escorting us through the town jumping any red light we came across to arrive at a very loud buzzing packed stadium ready for our performance at 10pm after the last event has finished.
The performance was killer!!! The cheer was immense and we loved every second of it, but was over far too quickly. And then followed a gigantic million pound firework display through the centre of the open topped stadium, it was large.
Then back to hotel again with our trusty police escort to the hotel bar to drink and laugh ourselves silly until the early hours to then be collected at 5am to catch our early flight back to.....reality.

CALLING ALL CREOLIANS, Greetings from the primaeval forest in Sweden. The summer is coming to a close. In some unfortunate places, the summer never began. Shame. People act differently when the weather is warm. Nicer. Not I. I'm nice all year round, but I must admit - I smile more when the sun is out. And that's a fact, that's a fact. The COCOS and I are off to Naples tomorrow for an Italian film festival. Lots of photo opportunities. Can't wait to see what the Nuts will be wearing. Me? Pink, of course. The summer hasn't died yet. The gig in Dublin last week was brilliant. The sun appeared for us and us only. All others faced an amazing downpour. But the week before that we weren't so lucky; we were 10 minutes into our set (the bridge of I'M A WONDERFUL THING, BABY) and every cloud in the universe released its full contents. The music-lovers were not bothered. Bless them. Hundreds of umbrellas popped open and the party continued. That was Ascot. I love music, as well you know, but I must confess - there is no group or singer in the world that I would stand in the rain for. I love my hats and my shoes and my clothes too much. Shameful. After Naples it's back in the studio for us. We have 2 albums coming out next year. One, aptly entitled CREOLISM - THE FIRST 30 YEARS and another called STONY'S BROOK (dedicated to my brother and my mentor). So a lot of work has to be done. Teasers of the tracks will be on-line from time to time. By the way, my lady (the pulchritudinous Gemsicola) and I had our holiday in a place called FORTE VILLAGE in Sardegna. Fascinating place. I suggest you put it on your 'ten-things-I-must-do-before-I-go-to Hades' list. Ask for a gentleman named Enzo when you get there. He'll take good care of you. Well, it's time to turn on TCM now and watch a good ol' classic ... yes, they even have TCM in Scandinavia. After that I'll turn on CNN - I heard a rumor that history was being made in the USA ....... I'm really curious ..... what could that mean? I thought America had done everything possible already ........ what could be so new .... so different ..... what on earth could have made my good buddy from New York (BEN) call me in such an excited, frantic manner ..... literally shouting down the line "oh lord - history is being made in my country .... turn on CNN!!!!" I didn't believe him so I didn't turn on CNN. But now someone else has called me and said the same thing. I'm really curious ..... but first ......... first comes CAGNEY and BOGART in a classic on TCM. _______________

Kid Creole and his lovely coconuts just had a storming gig at last Saturdays LOVEBOX in Marley Park, Dublin. They performed a great, energized and colourful 45 minute set and then caught Paolo Nutini's set which was fantastic and then hooked up with him and his band to watch Farrelll storming the crowd with N.E.R.D. And then Maximo Park Head lined but we had to depart the featival at this time and head to our after party which fun filled til the early hours, Irish style! Another great show, one for the book.....
