United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust
Inspired by the need to recognise and conserve Britain's long and distinguished history of exploration and scientific research, the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust was set up as a charity in 1993. It aims to:-
Help conserve selected early British scientific bases on the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia region for the enjoyment and education of visitors. The UKAHT operates Port Lockroy, which is a designated Historic Site and Monument (No. 61) under the Antarctic Treaty;
Support the New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust in conserving the historic huts in the Ross Sea area built by the explorers Scott, Shackleton and Borchgrevink;
Promote an educational programme to stimulate public interest in science, the global environment and Antarctic research through the inspiration of earlier British Antarctic endeavours;
Help with the acquisition and preservation of British historical Antarctic artefacts.
In short, the AHT exists to conserve evidence of Antarctica's history now and for the future.

International Animal Rescue
International Animal Rescue comes to the aid of wild and domestic animals with hands-on rescue and rehabilitation. Wherever possible we return rescued animals to the wild but also provide sanctuary for animals that can't fend for themselves.
IAR specialises in comprehensive sterilisation and inoculation programmes for stray dogs and cats, particularly in developing countries. We have offices in the UK and the US and ongoing projects in India, Indonesia and Malta.
IAR works to educate the public in the compassionate and humane treatment of all animals. We use sound scientific evidence to inform our decisions and determine the course of our rescue operations. In all that we do we aim to find lasting solutions that benefit both animals and people.

Eco-Tip - Use A Clockwork Torch
Buy yourself a clockwork torch and keep it wound up completely to recharge its batteries. You can wind it up while you're watching TV.
This will provide endless light but with zero carbon emissions. For example, keep it by your bed and use it for that trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Clockwork torches are lighting up the lives of thousands of people in the developing world - at no cost.
