So our good friend Bobolli Bobolissimo has been recording Humungo Ginormous shows for a while now, and he has started putting them up on youtube. Right now we've got two shows, but here are some edible clips from both, more can be found on the tube:

Thanks to Ryan Brosmer for moving our show to his house after we found out that Common Groundz wouldn't let any of the bands play because no one signed a contract. Ridiculousness. The Ambulance Review have been doing this East Coast tour for the past week and that was the second time they were told at a venue that they couldn't play. Ups and downs...ups and downs.

Everyone got to play a set at Ryan's though which was a magnificent space. Some highlight keywords of the set: tambourine, bat wings, glitter, pumpkin, Bobby LePire, sponge. And nothing was broken, even though there was a high possibility of it happening.

The Ambulance Review tour concludes on Friday at the Downtown Library. It starts at 5:30 and it's free. Come check us out.

Thank you to all who came to the show, especially those who danced, sang along, wore costumes or got their face painted. It made the show like a circus...in that good sort of way. The whole thing could have been circus like in that bad sort of way: Dogs getting married, clown cars, animal dung, elephant going out of control and trampling dozens (wait, that's also the good sort of way).

Jeff Mullins and ¡Carlos, I'm Pregnant! were downright pros musically. If you want to see more of Jeff, you can check him out at the Colonial Tavern Open Mic on Monday nights, as long as the Redskins are not playing that night. Carlos are playing a show at Old Mill Park on Oct. 20th that begins at 2 pm.

And us? We'll be playing at the 5th Annual Spaghettifest outside of Harrisonburg VA on the 29th. We get an hour at the Accoustic Cafe to do our thing starting at 3pm. If you're going or you know someone who's going (friends at JMU perhap-os?) be sure not to neglect the HG.

Youth Correspondent Kurt Vinnedge reviewed the Downtown Library show in today's Free Lance-Star, here's what he had to say.

"Last Friday at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library's downtown headquarters, three bands hit the books.

Even though "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was coming out in just a few hours, it didn't stop teens and adults alike from showing up for the 5:30 p.m. free concert.

¡Carlos, I'm Pregnant! opened, giving the crowd the usual solid performance. With their happy sound and band members' continuous position switches, their show always stayed interesting. Caving to pressure, the band played their best song, "The Happy Song."

Next up was Humungo Ginormous, a band with many quirks. However, they weren't bad things to have. The strangeness added something new to their music, described as "acoustic nerd punk"--which meant funny lyrics to downright crazy songs. Titles included "Gangster Dinosaurs" and "Incognito Burrito."

Ginormous' lead singer kept the crowd entertained with his erratic (the only word to describe it) dancing. However, this wasn't bad either. The band kept the show running and added a different flavor.

Last, but not least, was Atomic Raygun Attack. Opening up fast and furious, ARA's set was probably the only time you will ever see a mosh pit in the library. Adding even more to the experience was a pink unicorn on a stick, complete with light-up horn, that a fan brought. With their punk/ska sound, ARA energized the crowd to the breaking point.

Fredericksburg All-Ages' ever-increasing list of great shows always takes away some of the summer doldrums. Be sure not to miss Ra Ra Riot and two other great bands Aug. 5 at The Wounded Bookshop."

Erratic? That's so close to erotic. We've got to keep working so we can get to that point. Sexy dancing here we come!

The show last night was pretty tops, I woke up this morning and still had a terrible aching foot from stomping so much. When toe tapping gets that intense, you know it's good.

Carlos, I'm Pregnant were really great, weren't they? Definitely the tightest high school band I've seen, and that's me reaching past my own nostalgia of the shows I went to in high school, no playing favorites here. Good melodies, nice use of keyboard. I hope to see them again.

Speaking of shows I went to in high school. Jeff Mullins was a friggen champ. He got to be a special singer for both us and ARA, plus threw out a few inside jokes for the benefit of few, but at least those few laughed. And those dinosaur dance moves.....they were pretty tits.

Our set was also nice because we got to play as a full band for the first time for many of you guys. Steve and Ted certainly bring the hammer down with some bassing (basing?) and drumming action. Also, the Freddie Mercury mic stand went off without a hitch.

Atomic Raygun Attack just makes me happy every time. They always have a half a dozen kids moshing to songs like "Milkshake" and "Bessie The Cheeseburger," which is surreal. Also I'm glad they have adopted the "between song chants" as a regular feature, oh and babies are cute.

The library has always been a supportive venue, so let's continue to appreciate their services as well as the dedication of the people in town who give their time and energy set up shows....specifically the all ages ones.

May I recommend the album Songs For Drella, a mini Velvet Underground reunion from 1990, as well as a concept album about the life of Andy Warhol. I heard this Lou Reed and John Cale collaboration at work today and I'm gonna be spinning it for a while.

I've been into Warhol quite a bit lately. It's funny how his films are constructed so they're very challenging to view, but his writing and diaries are very inviting pieces, and manage to humanize a person who's often perceived as much much more. Both Reed and Cale take turns with the vocals and both have equal high points, though Reed contributes many more songs to the album. Sometimes they sing as a first person Andy, but other ones are from their points of view. Multi-perspective pieces, the ones where you have to second guess your previous position or attitude on a person, they always come across better in my opinion.

Anyways, Songs For Drella is pretty fun, especially the more you know about Andy's life. I always like it when a movie or a piece of music is reliant on the previous knowledge of another work. Drella was a nickname that Andy received, a combination of Dracula and Cinderella. Check it out.

Oh, we're playing a show on July 20th at the Downtown Library by the way, check out show page for details. There also may or may not be a song about milk moustaches in the works.

So I googled the term "Meowzers" the other day and it came up with hundreds of results. I guess I should be happy that so many other people have had the term run through their heads before, but it made me a little sad. A lot of them seem to be combining the word Meow with wowzers, but I was just thinking that it would work as a name for a cat that shot lazers out of its eyeballs of flames out of its nostrils. Poison whiskers, something like that.

Luger played all the tracks from the album yesterday, there is some very worthy stuff in there, especially from some of our musician pals.

Jeff Mullins has a song about the best way to kill himself. I've heard it like fifty something times, but I've never figured out what way he does it. It involves a phone, and whispering "goodbye" into it.

If I could die any way, it would be in a disco inferno.

We played four performances in five days last week which was great. It was fun to be a part of a Fredericksburg All Ages show and we hope it continues to thrive. It was looking scary for a while there when KC's was the only viable place for teenagers to see bands. The Wounded Bookshop seemed to work marvelously as a venue. If you were there, you know what I mean.

Additionally we picked up some new fans by opening for the Undeniably Adjacent, a very talented improv group at UMW. In between those two were Colonial Tavern and Borders, constantly faithful like goldfish that eat anything you put in the bowl....even soap flakes. Wait, that's not fidelity, that's a bad short term memory. Whatevs. We played as a full band at the Tavern last week, adding Ted on bass to the Monday night lineup.

The Blagden Alley skatepark (AKA as Fightclub...but we never knew it as that) in D.C. closed down a couple of weeks ago. The owners decided to stop it before the police came in and busted it up. HG played there for it's opening night a couple of years ago. We have some pictures from that posted. One that isn't posted is my personal favorite pic of me:

YEAH! That shadow is terrific. Long live Blagden Alley

Humungo Ginormous is Big, Black & Beautiful is almost complete. We need a few additional musicians like a violinist and some more horns, but we've got the main music and vocal work of those ten songs down. You can see the cover on the main page's song space. Mike Tschirn did the art and we love it. After we get done with that we should be moving right on to Humungo Ginormous Shoot a Bear. Ten more songs, some of which you've probably heard at recent shows. Did we whet your appetite? Hoping for some new gigs in the next month, we have a thing at Eyeclopes but haven't learned all the details yet. So just keep your ear to the ground and you too might hear the thundering beats of some Gangster Dinosaurs, be it on a CD or live in the 'burg.
