Weel folks

That's the county show over, so winter is no doubt just around teh corner. Aye, the nights are fair drawin in!

But, before that we have one last foray south of the Firth. We're off to Shrewsbury and Towersey festivals during the last weekend of August. But we've also managed to squeeze in an extra gig on teh Thursday night in The Blue Lamp in Aberdeen. Last time we were there the place was absolutely jumping..... we want to see a repeat performance.
The jazz musicians have a Thursday residency, but have kindly agreed to step aside early to let us do a late gig, starting at around 10.30pm - so that's.....
Thursday 27th Aug - Blue Lamp, Aberdeen  1030pm
Be there or be square as the jazzers would no doubt say ;-)
And to all those heading to Shrewsbury and Towersey....... Look out!

Cheers

Eh... hello

Yes, I know, its been a while hasn't it. Been a bit on the busy side lately (I know, so have you, its no excuse!)

Just to let yo know we're heading off to Stornoway this weekend for the Hebcelt festival. Hope lots of you will be joining us to get sweaty in teh Big Blue Tent!

Apparently its getting filmed for BBC Alba, so you'll be able to watch us on Satellite and BBC iPlayer from next week onwards. (will post details when I get them)

We had our first trip to Italy last weekend, and the stunningly beautiful Celtica Festival in the Aosta Valley. We were playing at nearly 2000 metres up at the foot of Monte Bianco. Someone has posted a nice peedie montage of our Saturday night gig. The image quality isn't just stunning but the sound is surprisingly clear and it gives a nice feel of the gig.....

A huge thanks to Riccardo, Barbara, Ales and everyone else for looking after us so well. Ciao to you all!

Speak soon.

Now then, someone has very kindly posted our performance on BBC Alba at Hogmanay on Youtube (unfortunately its not tagged with our name so very few of our friends are likely to have seen it!)

PS. Apologies to all of our Myspace friends who we've not been in touch with much lately. Not had much time to be on here since Christmas. Fx

Hi folks

Some of you may have noticed that we were on the box last night. For those not lucky enough to receive BBC Alba via sky or freesat you can see the programme Na Trads at

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00gdkcp/Na_Trads_31_12_2008/

It was recorded live at the Arches last month and features many of the winners from the 2008 Scots Trad Music Awards. I'm not sure if our friends outwith the uk will be able to watch it or not, but give it a bash and let us know.

All the best for 2009 - look forward to posting a few gigs on wur site asap.

Cheers

Current mood:  bouncy

Well, we did it! On Saturday night The Chair picked up Band of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards. Amazing night for the whole band - and I still don't think any of us can really believe it!

It was a brilliant night for Orkney music, with Kris Drever and Jeana Leslie also picking up awards.

Thank you so much to all our myspace friends who voted for us - I'm certain we wouldn't have done it without you all.

And serious respect to the other bands in our shortlist - they were the first to come over and offer their congratulations. As Montie said on Saturday night - we were just honoured to be in a room with you all!

Sorry if we're a bit slow (and random) at the moment in replying to all the lovely comments, been a bit hectic.

Away to Glasgow on Tuesday for the winners concert (being filmed and broadcast on BBC2 Scotland on Hogmanay).

Busy, busy, very busy! More later..... (and possibly some gossip!)

Great news.

Brian's missus, Ali, gave birth to a beautiful peedie lass at 4am.

Called Lucy Catherine, she was born at 4am this morning at the wonderful matty ward pf Kirkwall's Balfour Hospital. Mother and child doing well.

(For the next 6 months Brian's red piss-hole-in-the-snow eyes may be less to do with Mr McEwans demon tinnies, and more to do with 3am shifts changing nappies)

...............................Why not celebrate this arrival by voting for The Chair in the best band category 2008 Scots Trad Music Awards? ;-) ....... www.handsupfortrad.co.uk

Hi folks

Voting has now opened in this year's Scots Trad Music Awards. As you may already know The Chair has been shortlisted for Best Band. (thanks to all those who nominated us!)

It's a huge honour to reach this stage - but a win would be even better. You can vote for us here........

handsupfortrad.co.uk/tradmusicawards/nominations2008_info.htm

Please have a look through the list and vote in as many categories as you want. There's loads of great Orkney acts/projects in the shortlist, so it would be great to see them winning their categories too!

Please pass on to anyone you think may be interested.

Cheers

OK folks. As you know, we're in it for the music and the love of playing live. We don't always push ourselves forward, and we kinda like to think that's part of our charm. So it goes a peedie bit against the grain to ask, but.........

The Scots Trad Music Awards are coming up and they're looking for nominations in various categories. Perhaps you've enjoyed one of our shows and would like to put us forward in the Best Live Act category, maybe you listen to Huinka on repeat play and would like to nominate that as Best Album, maybe you think we should pick up the award for Best Pipe Band....... OK, maybe not!

Anyway, go have a look, and make sure to put forward all your fav Scottish bands in the various categories.

We're no really bothered about winning (haha, I know they all say that!), but a nomination would be brilliant!

Big Love

Just a quick note to say that we've now got 3 gigs in our november jaunt.

20th November - Hootananny's in Inverness
21st - Fiddle2008 festival at Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh
22nd - The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen

Due to Brian's impending 2nd taste of parenthood he'll not be with us this time, but we have roped in the very talented young Mr Jamie Marwick from Rousay on banjo - and if we get drunk enough we might even tackle one or two of our very select song repretoire ;-)

See you there!
