Current mood: rockin
Half of Jack of Speed were back in the studio yesterday, recording two new tracks (that Danny had already recorded drums for back in February) and putting some finishing touches on the last 5 songs we recorded. The final quarter of JoS will be in the studio next week to finish off the new songs.
After listening to the original 5 songs we had recorded in February a fair bit, we decided not to release them as an EP as one or two songs had not turned out quite as well as we had hoped. Instead we will be making an new EP containing a mix of some of the 5 songs we recorded back in February, and one or maybe both of the 2 new songs we're recording right now. It'll probably be released for download only, but nothing's really been decided yet. There's also the possibility of making an album out of the songs from both this week, February, and Take Your Pick... but we really don't have a clue what we're going to do yet. In whatever form we choose to release the new songs, hopefully they'll be online soon enough for you to listen to.
Will update again next week when Mike arrives in the studio.

Current mood: depressed
So our last gig with Dan was last month, and we had originally planned to soldier on, for the next few months at least, with a new drummer. However we have since decided to call it a day for the time being.
Due to other commitments, people wishing to travel etc. Jack of Speed will be on an indefinite hiatus. It is extremely unlikely we will be playing any more gigs for the rest of 2009 at least. We're not sure when we'll be back, and it could possibly be permanent, the truth is we really don't know.
It's not all bad news though, we are currently putting the finishing touches on the 5 tracks we recorded last month in Fastlane Studios. We will be releasing this as our second EP, through a free download service and possibly some kind of limited physical release too. We'll post up more info on that when we decide exactly what we're doing with it.
We also hope to go back to Fastlane Studios in the summer to finish the recording of 3 songs which did not make it on to the new EP. We'll throw these up online as well for free download.
So a big thanks to everybody who made it to our various gigs over the past 2-3 years, and to everyone who bought or downloaded our first EP 'Take Your Pick'. Be sure to keep checking the page for info on our next EP. Hopefully we'll see you again at a Jack of Speed gig a few years down the line. Possibly in 2021 when we're all approaching 40, fat, balding, and settled down with a mortgate.
Until then thanks to everyone for their support.
Jack of Speed.

Current mood: blank
We're just back from a 5 day stint in Fastlane Studios in Donabate. We managed to get 5 songs done which will be going onto our second EP. They are:
- Bass Riffalicious: one of the earliest songs we wrote in our current incarnation,
- Down to the Wire: there's a few versions floating around on youtube you can listen to
- Silver Lining: which you may recognise from some of our gigs in the past 6 months
And 2 new songs which haven't been played live before and don't have names as of yet.
We currently only have a rough mix of the songs, but we'll hopefully be able to upload one of them soon. We haven't decided how or when we'll release the EP, so keep checking for updates.
Also we're very sad to announce that the great Danny Stuart will be playing his last ever gig with us in Eamonn Dorans on Sunday March 1st. It'll be a great chance to hear some of the new material, and also to give Dan a proper send off. We'll hopefully see you there.

Well we've been waiting a while to hear what Hotpress thought of the EP ever since sending it to them 3 months back. The verdict is finally in, and they've decided to make it their First Cuts pick of the fortnight. This will be in the issue published on Thursday January 15th. The Hotpress First Cuts pick of the fortnight is generously supported by many radio stations throughout the country, so don't be surprised to hear us on stations such as Cork's Red FM, Limerick's Live 95, BBC Radio Foyle, and many others. Many thanks to Hotpress for that. Also we're heading back to the studio in February to record our 2nd 5-track EP. Our first EP (which you can download free here) was received with great response across the board (gaining Phantom FM's Icon Show demo of the week as well as praise from Hotpress and others) which was a massive boost to us as we've only ever really had feedback from immediate friends and family who, lets face it, have to love us no matter what. So in light of that, we're really excited about this recording as we have some pretty stomping new material which is just itching to be put down. We recorded some guide tracks ourselves to save time so we're hoping to really get loads out of this session.

So the first piece of media/press feedback is in... and it's good!! We were made demo of the week on Phantom's Irish music show Icon for last week, and they played Fallout. Unfortunately none of us managed to catch the show, so if anybody heard it and knows what was said about the EP, feel free to let us know. It's both a bit of a relief and really encouraging for the first piece of feedback to be so positive, after all the hard work and money we've pumped into the project. Thanks a million phantom!! Also the remaining 3 songs from the EP will be up on our myspace/bebo/facebook etc. for you to listen to from this Saturday, in anticipation of the release the EP the following Saturday, November 8th. Be sure not to miss the launch gig that night in the Boom Boom Room!

Current mood: strong
Well it's been a bit of a slow process, but we're finally getting there. We finished recording the EP back on July 20th. Since then we've had to settle on a final mix, decide on a name, design the artwork, organise a photoshoot, arrange a launch gig, and much much more.
Now that the majority of the work is out of the way, we are delighted to announce that our debut EP, titled 'Take Your Pick', will be released on November 8th. Giving us just enough time to put the finishing touches on the release. The best place to get your hands on a copy of the CD, would be to come along to our launch gig, in the Boom Boom Room on O'Connell Street, on Saturday November 8th. It will be €6 in or €10 with a CD. So basically you're getting it for €4. It should be a great night so we hope to see you there. It should also be on sale in Tower Records for €5, but that is yet to be confirmed.
Thanks to everybody who made it out to our recent gigs in Eamonn Dorans, and the Village. I'm told we sounded well.
Keep checking the bebo/myspace for updates. Our official site www.jackofspeed.net will also be relaunched to coincide with the EP release. We have a few dates coming up between now and the launch gig, but if you can only make it to one of them then please make sure you're at the launch gig on November 8th. It's a Saturday night, you've no excuse!!
Jack of Speed

The EP is finished! We're extremely happy with the way it turned out. I dont think any of us was expecting the quality to be as high as it is. Huge credit goes to Steve of Fastlane Studios who tirelessly (I only saw him eat once!) worked with us for four days to produce this. At the moment we are finalising the design of the EP which should be finished in the next few weeks. Steve is making a few level changes to the songs and when thats finished we'll throw one or two mouth-watering teasers up while we're waiting for the final product. Watch this space for more!

So we've actually gone ahead and booked some time in a studio. We'll be recording our debut EP from July 17th - 20th in Fastlane studios in Donabate. It should up online not too long after that. Currently we're planning on recording Fallout (again), Chasing Alibis, Capo Song, Japanese Tier, and a new untitled song. Also Mike and Ali will be playing a song on balcony tv, hopefully at some stage this month.
