Davinchi and the Wrong CrowdDWC, Davinchi and the Wrong Crowd, was a 5 piece band from Northampton MA, in late 1990's and early 2000's. Led By front Man
Davinchi, an award winning poet who has been praised by the likes of artists such as
Vernon Reid of
Living Colour and
Lenny Kravitz, this band was described as punk-funk, rock n' roll.
Co-founding member and all around nasty
bassist, Rob Sanzone, helped write many songs with the band along with fellow band mates, guitarists
Andy Gerard,
J. DiBiasio and drummer Jon Morris. His on-stage antics as his alter ego, Sturgis Mayhem, included erratic mid-set costume changes, and slugs of hot sauce, which was worn on the bassist's hip in a gun holster. Besides the theatrics, Rob aka Sturgis, created an original backdrop of bass lines and sonic textures using chains upon chains of effects.
"Robotic space-bass", and
"747 landing in the room" are just two of the dozens of bass sound effects Sturgis would render live on stage as well as in the studio.
The track featured hear on the myspace site,
Lost In Confusion, features Rob Sanzone on bass and backing vocals. The Robotic pitch squeals at the intro of the song were all done live in the studio with Rob's special blend of,"what-the-hell-was-that".
Rob's work with DWC can be heard on tow records by the band,
"Notice Me (2000) and
"Wo-Man" (2001). other work can be heard on Davinchi's solo records, including the
critically acclaimed 1999 release of Davinchi's "Vignettes - A Portrait of a Black Man".
