Since I've blogged you..."
Thanks, lead singer of Staind. You really know how to set off a blog right! Ok, so it HAS been some time since we've written anything here. Mainly cause we're not even sure if anyone still uses myspace or if it's like the web's equivalent of an abandoned town. We do have some rather exciting news to report though, so I guess if anyone does still use this shit, it's worth mentioning:
We've teamed up with Baltimore's best music blog, auralstates.com to record and release a new ep. This disc will include all NEW Caverns material and a cover or two. More details to come. We're not sure yet if this will be a digital ep or if we're gonna do a pressing, but either way, we're excited to put out something soon. Look out for more info in the next two months and expect a cd release party sometime next year.
Also, we're playing a show at a rad new venue in Frederick called Cafe 611. Check us out on 11/21 with Troutzilla!
Hope everyone is well, looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

I (Kevin) would like to offer a sincere apology to all of our friends and fans in Frederick who came out to Guido's last night to see us. As you may have heard Ross say, I was experiencing some kinda scary health issues and ended up having to go to the hospital. The good news is that I am back home and feeling a lot better, physically. Emotionally I am bummed we didn't get to play last night as it was a great show with two other amazing bands and an incredible crowd. I have played through pretty severe sickness and injury before, but playing last night would have been incredibly dangerous. I hope anyone disappointed by our non-performance will not hold that against us as we will be back to Frederick ASAP cause it is one of our fav places to play.
As of right now all of our shows this coming weekend are still on, however, we'll be sure to let you know if there are any changes.
Thanks so much, I love all you guys for giving this band a second of your time and look forward to seeing everyone soon!

All,
We are VERY excited to be playing the Lab in Alexandria courtesy of Club Tiger THIS friday June 26th with our BFF's in Imperial China. We have a surprise for those who come, it will be a legendary* evening. If you live in NOVA (or any where in the DC Metro area) PLEASE come and support and independent promotor and an independent venue! If you like your shows inexpensive and all ages, coming to this show would a be a huge showing of support!
On an unfortunate note, we were unable to find another venue for the planned Saturday night show w/ Imp Chin. Both bands tried hard to secure another location, but the cancellation of the show due to the sad and premature demise of the Cold Call house left little time for planning.
However you DC residents will not have to wait long to see Caverns or Imperial China as we are both playing Fort Reno on July 2nd and 9th respectively. We'll be bothering you all about that performance soon, don't worry!
Love,
Caverns

First thing is first, thanks to everyone who came out to the Video Release Party this past Friday. We had a lot of fun and were really psyched by all the positive feedback we got on the video for "Dance You Son of a Bitch". That video was all Pat, so if you like it and think you could use any sort of video production help, get in touch with him at ddotfilms, which is one of our top friends.
Ok, now here is the manifesto we promised:
In the 3 years that Caverns has actively played shows in the Washington, D.C., we have gotten to see and do many amazing things. In fact, to a large extent, Caverns' success, though modest, has surpassed what we had ever thought was possible for a weird, instrumental band with members who all have full time jobs. We have opened for our favorite bands, traveled all over the place, played huge shows, released two e.p.'s that we are proud of and established new friendships with artists and fans that have enriched our lives. We are so thankful for all of these things.
That said, there is still something missing. For those of you who grew up in the DC metro area in the 80's and 90's, and were tuned into the amazing musical community we had here in those days, you might be able to relate. In 2009, the spirit of musical community among D.C. artists that are creating edgy, original music does not seem to be as vibrant as it once was. This problem has bothered us for a long time, but up until now it was something we have complained about more than done anything about. We as a band have not contributed to "the scene" of which I am speaking other than paying it lip service and lamenting its possible demise. That ends now.
For the rest of our life as a band, we wish to focus on supporting DIY/Alternative space venues and playing as many low cost, all ages shows as we can. There are many great spaces in DC which try their best to hold these events, but feel that artists aren't aware, or aren't as aware as they should be, of these spaces. We hope to help raise awareness of these venues and make it easier for bands to find out about them and book them as an alternative to the club system in DC. In addition to this, we will work with other local, independent artists to put on more all ages, DIY events to celebrate the intelligence and diversity we have here in DC. However, we need help to do this, so please let us know of any and all Alt./DIY spaces in the DC metro area as we are working to develop a cohesive list of venues and contact info for use by bands/artists/promoters. Also, if you are of the indie promoter type persuasion, contact us and let us know where you book and how we can be in the know about your concert calendar to help you get in touch with bands to fill spots, etc.
The theme of this whole thing is "Community". There are a lot of great spaces and a lot of great bands in this city, there is no doubt. However, these days, it seems like too many of us are islands unto ourselves without a greater scene or community to be a part. We invite you to get involved and help reinvigorate the music community in this city with us. We can't wait to get started.
Alternative Venue shows so far booked this summer are: 6/26 @ The Lab w/ Imperial China 6/27 @ Cold Call House w/ Imperial China 7/2 @ Fort Reno Park w/ TBA
There will be more to come soon. We look forward to being a part of it with all of you!
****Note****
Committing ourselves to this will mean that we will have to be much
more selective with the number of club shows we can do, so we will
rarely if ever be able to fill a spot on a bill to support local/out of
town artists who are coming through to play a club. We get a lot of
these types of requests, so please don't take offense if we opt not to
jump on your bill at a club.
Also, remember we can only play so many shows and so if we are going to set up a DIY show, we will likely have bands in mind already. If you see a show on our calendar, feel free to inquire as to whether or not there is an open slot. However, don't send us a message that looks anything like this "Hey dudes, we'd love to play with you guys sometime, let us know if you get anything set up and we'll be there!" (yes that has happened). Sorry kids, but we're a band, not a booking agent. The point of this is to eliminate the middle man by providing information to artists so you can book your own shows. Remember, a D.I.Y. community requires you to Do. It. YOURSELF.
