Greetings friends and lovers

Next Friday, 5th December @ Nambucca we will be playing our last show of the year and, our last as Metro Riots (Boo Hoo, get over it you weepy chimps).

As you know, 2008 has been a mighty frustrating year for us. The dramas of the past twelve-months (pets cashing out, bad hair days and Danny chopping off his finger) have seen us seldomly show our ugly faces in our regular haunts. For that, we are very, very sorry and appreciate your patience. However, our horizons have broadened and our ideas and enthusiasm have grown (Danny's finger evidently, has not). We have written an amazing album that is ready to be recorded first thing 2009, you good people should be able to illegally download it well before its official release. In addition to an amazing album, next year will see us creep up on y'all with an amazing new name and maybe, just maybe, an additional phamily member or three??

So.... We would love it if you could come to Nambucca and let us rock your tusks off before we hit the big time.We are gritting our teeth with excitement at whats coming, you should be too.

Our love to each and every one of you

M.R, x x x x

He swore it was the truth. Cunt! Last time we were weak. Never again mind you! I've dealt with a hard blast of shit-storms in my time but bye god, never as insubordinate as the likes of Future of the Left I'll have you know. They were honest, I'll give them that! They swore on a stack of Scientology bibles whilst Katie Holmes put her own hands in her own arse. It's true. I'm not afraid to lie to you shove-holes!!!

You, as an innocent, law abiding shitizen would obviously take the side of a 5"3 dude known better as Ice-man... Maverrick.. Goose???? Maybe Falco. Who Knows?? My bad.

I've been a fucking addict for some time now. Do you think it's easy for me to walk into meetings like this with a grin the size of hurricane gustave across my boat? Of course not. My addiction is constantly waiting in the parking lot, doing push-ups, getting stronger, waiting for poor old little me to fucking give in to Temptation!! Well I'm not Gonna. Thats why I stand here today as a CLEAN MAN!!!!!!!!!! X X

Future Of The Left RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, CUNT FUCK MY LIFE! TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind regards

Ollie and Danny (The merciless meerkats)

fUCK OUR FUCKING LIVES TO SHIT. AND THEN SOME!!

The Metro Riots are the kind of band that don't fit easily into any contemporary scene because they are just way too busy doing their own thing - namely producing a timeless raw, energetic, blues based rock that wears its tattooed heart fiercely on it's sleeve.

Their debut album out later this month is a convincingly loose lipped, dark and hedonistic brew of Zeppelin, Sabbath and Crue inspired bedlam, littered with stand out tracks that would hold their own if played back to back with the likes of 'Fairies in Boots'. What sets them apart is nothing more than genuine talent: Danny Fury is a guitar player with impeccable taste and a blistering imagination and Damo has got one of those voices that sounds like it's been scraped, sandpapered and soaked in methylated spirits. Imagine The Electric Prunes being thrashed out by Aerosmith high on Crystal Meth circa 1973 and you are getting somewhere near the sound these guys are capable of.

I caught up with the pair to talk about the recording of their debut 'Night Time Angel Candy', released May 28th on Eleven 78 Records, and they asked me to choose five tracks from the album for you lucky swine to hear pre-release exclusively here on Dazed Digital. So, middle and index fingers down, stretch out the remaining two digits, that's right, now raise your hand.....

DD - How long did it take you guys to record this album?
D - We recorded the whole album live at Rockfield in about 10 days and then spent a few weeks adding some finishing touches at the Rockshack.

DF - Rockshack is kind of similar to the Batcave except the hero is a bad ass Portuguese brother called Pedro.

DD - Did you all write the songs together?
DF - Yeah, it starts with just playing something over and over and trying to make it sound unique, it's quite an arduous task really but when we all put our heads together it's worth it.

DD - Who are your biggest influences as musicians?
DF - It ranges throughout the band but we all fancy the pants off The Velvet Underground, Sabbath, Nirvana, The Melvins, Rage Against The Machine and QOTSA.

D - We also have an unhealthy obsession with each other's hip and edgy style of execution.

DD - The record is pretty dark on the whole, was that a conscious decision?
D - Not conscious as in we were chasing the angst-dollar; we were just brought up in pretty hostile environments so our music reflects that.

DF - Even when we try and write a power ballad it ends up with a title like 'Toxic Hazard Meat Death Fest'. I guess we're just not well adjusted, satisfied members of society.

DD - You've played a lot of Love Music / Hate Racism gigs, got any pre-local election messages for the BNP?
D - They look so adorable in their Doc Martins and penny-catchers, we just can't take them seriously.

DF - I just wish they had one collective baldhead to kiss.

"A stomp heavy collection of Jagged blues-led riffs that sound like the result of too many dust ups and broken hearts with everyone they meet, The heart of Rock n Roll has never beaten with more conviction and steel eyed intent". 3.5

****[Sun newspaper 1st June 07]

There's the metallic "Watch Every Word" the bluesy "Love me ASAP" and hang on is that the spirit of Led Zep hiding in the intro of "God Bless The Pharmacist"
But they have found the secret ingredient that raises a young band beyond mere parody. "Poison The Bride" rocks up like BRMC have found Primal screams Methamphetamine stash and decided they were in a bad mood; and The "Butcher of Hollywood"? Well how could it fail with a title like that?
You can't fault Metro Riots effort and sheer, Sweaty snarling enthusiasm. More power to their trigger finger...4/5

[The Fly June 2007]

"The Riots are certainly not your every day Indie band. With already having a respectable following in London and all over the country, the release of their debut album "Night Time Angel Candy" (out on the 4th June), might be their final breakthrough. The new single "New Epidemic" (released on Bank holiday), just like their first single "When You're Gone", was made single of the week by The Sun, and this is also the song the boys closed their set with. The way things are looking, this could be their year".

"Grotty Rock from Londons top live draws, If you like your tunes bashed out on busted instruments in some boozy dive, then these boys are for you" 3/5

Tongues have been wagging for some time about Metro Riots and when I first saw them 2 years back at there manager [Roger Sargent] Future stars photo exhibition they were an angry bunch and I was intrigued and impressed by there stage control.

After seeing them countless times after either playing crammed sweaty clubs or huge venues supporting acts like Dirty Pretty Things and Juliette Lewis and a multitude of others they seem to have kept on growing and evolving as a group which you definitely have a lack of nowadays. So now the album is delivered but was it worth the wait?

Damn right!

This is an album full of happiness and pain in unequal doses and if it would have been delivered a year or more ago I doubt it would have sounded as complete.

"Poison the Bride" is a grand nod to QOTSA and Sonic youth with its tribal beat to its punked up solo which then leads you into "Watch every word" a heavy bashing whirlwind of screaming vocals and dizzy guitar and drum lines.

Something not heard in the live shows are the more slowed down songs which show that if they really wanted too they can deliver an epic [Dare I say it] Ballad of Top 10 quality in the form of "Love Me ASAP" but the difference here [Take note Mr Borell] is this is a jagged sonnet with a hidden plea to be recognised "I always stand at the back hoping maybe you'd notice me" and the way its delivered is one of conviction and Honesty. "God bless the pharmacist" is another example as well as "Baby you've become another Habit" which is a hybrid of Black Sabbath's "Planet caravan and War Pigs" and delivered like it was the last song they were allowed to play which is probably the reason it's left to close the album. My only gripes about NTAC is the opener "New epidemic" which at the live shows always makes the place rumble and the crowd go mad but on the album it seems a little too restrained. Saying that though it is still a cracking song with extremely dance friendly drums and a crazy unhinged guitar solo. The same can be said for "Teddy Bundy x 100" which has great moments all round but hearing this song live is much more carnal.

It's left up to the other tracks to make up for this though and there is plenty to choose from

"Execute Tranquillity" borders on the point of Heavy Metal and its played with beautifully as the verses sweep in and out with the Vocals taking over complete control of the song "Lured into Roulette" and "The Butcher of Hollywood" are 2 songs White stripes would kill for and "I Just cant Recover" would make Oasis realise where there going wrong

So where now for Metro Riots? If they keep making music like this I believe there time shall come coupled with the live shows which are always a treat they can only go from strength to strength and I believe the next album [Hopefully delivered quicker than 2 years boys] shall be another step up the ladder. Its time for the big bands to be looking over there shoulders because The Riots are coming for the throne and they sound hungry as hell

5/5

''Crashing onto the Thames like a drunk iggy pop lovechild, Metro Riots brash blues punk will leave you dazed and in love. You heard it here 1st.'' [NME- yearbook Jan 05]

"Metro Riots are heavily influenced by the blues although don't let that fool you. As though Leadbelly's woman ran away with his acoustic and dog replaced it with an electric fuzz machine. M Riots deliver a torrid of fuzzed up punk rock blues. These angry young men are a must for all those looking to visit Riotville”. [Glasgow-King tuts wah wah hut. Nov 05]

“Metro Riots are slicker than ever, thanks to constant gigging recently and some home-grown exercise regime that leaves Damo looking svelte and Danny like a rock peacock. It’s flamboyant blues-inspired rock’n’roll mixed with obscure garage rock within Ramones length pop songs, Excellent!” [Tmf festival Aug 05.sounds xp review]

“The last band of the night are Metro Riots with their star firmly in the ascendant, they’ll have played support to graham coxon by the time you read this. They play with confidence and energy firing out taut punk salvos and justifying their confidence with meaty beats all in all a stormer”. [Playmusic magazine Koko review Aug 05]

“Metro riots are a hurricane in a milk bottle. East London’s Rhythm factory, well known for its dirty antics is the perfect setting for this well controlled explosion of grungy sounds and messy vocals. With a staple diet of churning guitar riffs, naked string slides and impulsive drum beats they tactfully chuck some dance-worthy moments into the mix – resulting in a perfectly filthy and pounding set that leaves your ears ringing and feet tapping for days. The crowd swells and moves to the music as if they had been listening to it since being in the womb. Metro riots know what the crowd want and deliver every time. Tonight was no exception. Some androgynous kid at the back shouts a request “Thee small faces”, a fan favourite. Damo [singer] raises his eyebrow points to the ceiling, pulsating his foot against the stage, leads the band into the intro and they erupt into an excitable, dirty version, Inciting a Beatles style sing-a-long. Metro riots are going to go from strength to strength. It’s hard to believe that a band can maintain such epic energy levels in such intimate venues, so make sure you see them before they get to big; or give themselves nervous breakdowns”.

[Artrocker magazine review 05]

“One of the best live bands around I love them and so should you” [John Kennedy Xfm]

Metro Riots are amazing [Carl barat – Nme 05]

“Before compare John Kennedy of Xfm has had the chance to finish off his introduction, screams for the Riots' frontman belt out from the barrier as the band strut out onto the stage. When it comes to music, there's no messin' with the Riot boys. Launching into a set that Led Zeppelin would have been proud to play, the four talented musicians make ears (and hearts) bleed- each song oozing with blues, sex, and attitude. Pulling the best response of the day, the Metro Riots blow everyone off of the stage. If there's one band to watch over the coming year, it is without a shadow of a doubt this one”. [Tin pan alley festival review Aug 05]

“Duke Spirit kicked off the NME SHOCKWAVES AWARDS shows last night (February 4) with a storming headline set at LONDON KOKO.
Metro Riots had kicked the evening off with an energetic set of swamp rock, with 'RIP Mother' and 'Lured Into Roulette' going down best with the enthusiastic crowd smashing stuff” [Nme .com 05].
