Current mood:  adventurous

They always say, "You are your own worst critic." I think generally that's
true, but not for me. Actually, my
own worst critic is a 6 year-old Romanian boy named Alexander.

He lives
next door to my writing and producing partner, Ryan Franks. We've been
back at
Ryan's place tweaking a few tracks, in this case, Welcome to Happy, (does anyone hear a title of a CD there?) and the writing
session ran a bit late into the night.

I was belting out vocal lines at around 1:00 am in
the typical paper-walled LA apartment. The next day we ran into the
neighbors. For the record, they
are about the sweetest people you could want to meet: Camelia, her
husband and mother, all live in the apartment next door, with their
son Alexander. It was Alexander, the young musician, who had
complaints.

While his mother was telling us how she doesn't mind the sound and that
they love music, Alexander steps forward with his hands over his ears
and yells, "Stop singing! It hurts my earrruhsss!!!"

 At first his
mother says,,, "Oh my G-D!" And she skooches him back inside.   "He doesn't know what he's saying because we
are teaching him 4 languages... but even from inside the house, we hear, "Stop singing! It hurts my earrruhsss!"

This makes me laugh more because hey,

1. you can't please everybody, and

b. at least he's honest

Funny, they must have had a talk with him because the next day in the
courtyard Alexander comes running up hollering, "Nina, Nina, I love
MUSIC.  I LOVE MUSIC!"

I feel that either his parents bribed him or suddenly exposed him to a
lot more music besides Thomas The Engine.  Either way, we're still
invited to his 6th birthday party.

So if I can get Alexander in my camp, I'll have made great strides in increasing my fan base.

I have been busy with other side projects as well, including completing the my first film score to the short film, The Company Man
Thank you Ryan Franks for bringing me in to this rad new world of
music!  We co-wrote it and while most of the instruments were played by
him, I have a mean tambourine, glockenschpiel (sp?) and violin
pizzicato solo.

We will post it here soon, so you can watch it too!

Also, I've been doing more original music for NBC's "Days Of Our Lives".
The next song that I co-wrote and sang will be airing the week of April
13th!  So get your Tivos set to go.  Please someone, record it!  I've
yet to see it!  :)

Listen for the song, "All I Want" in a big- event scene.  I
honestly don't know if I'm allowed to say what the scene is, in case it
ruins the plot for anyone.  So yeah, just think, big and emotional. and excessive use of taffeta. wink wink.

We are trucking on the CD recording!!!  We are recording with two great
engineers Scott Nickoly and Joshua Minyard and I am very excited to see
it take shape!

We just tracked some wicked cool drums and French Horn on the song Black- thank you Preston Sheppard, and Russell Peppers!

We are working on a new look for the website too, which we aim to have up in just a couple of weeks.

But, let me ask you this...? Have you watched the first 2 "The Making Of Sorry" videos?
We started posting them but then got delayed on the 3rd one. Show of
hands... does anyone want to see the 3rd and final? we are thinking
about doing a new video for the making of the song, Holiday as
well. We had a videographer for that one so it's not just Ryan and I
pointing the camera at each other. ;)   Check out me describing the
fireworks I want to appear in the song.

Todd Jones, editor and owner of
303 Post  http://www.303post.com  helped us out by
following us around with a video camera for a few days. We'll get that
edited and posted before too long too.

And lastly, this weekend I'm recording with one of my favorite artists, Tess Dunn.  www.myspace.com/tessdunn   She is recording a song I wrote with Jannie Storey, Ryan Franks and Rob Giles- "One In A Million".  Miley Cyrus, watch your back girl.  Tess is on fire!

That's it for now.  Actually I have A BIG RAD SURPRISE for this new album that I will be announcing in the weeks to come too.  I'm giddy.   So stay tuned for more information!

More tour dates in the Spring and Summer TBA soon too!

Have a great day lovelies and thank you so so so much always for your support!

Love,

Nina

I've also been writing music for NBC's hit daytime TV show, "Days Of Our Lives" and done some cool live shows recently.

I just performed at The Henry Fonda Music Box Theater with this freaking great dance troupe let by the incredible choreographer and dancer, Erica Soble and met the fabulous Miss Kourtney, who is one of the dancers who danced to my song, "No Man" on the Fox TV show, "So You Think You Can Dance." All of the dancers were amazing and I will be doing more shows with them in the future!

Have a great day and thank you always for your support!

Current mood:  animated
Happy Friday Everyone!!!

Is everyone celebrating still?! I am!!!

So here is my own personal Inauguration Day story. :) Truncated.

I got up at 6 am and went to this theater to watch it b/c I don't have a tv. We drove from Sherman Oaks to Beverly Hills to this little movie theater. I was so worried it was going to be packed and I was panicked about getting a seat. We got there an hour and a half before it started and there was NO ONE THERE!!! Ha Ha! Where were all the zealous people? Well apparently most people have televisions in Beverly Hills. Go figure.

So we went and sat in this theater and I had toast and jelly in my backpack and we ate soggy toast. :) Then people slowly trickled in- 30 maybe (it held like, 300) OY. So hey, at least we had cushy chairs and a giant tub of buttered popcorn at 8am.

So we watched it there and I brought kazoos to make much noise. Alas, there was this uppity woman in front of us who kept giving us dirty looks when we would cheer. She was absurd. I felt the overwhelming urge to kazoo in her face. But I thought to myself, - "WWOD?" What Would Obama Do? So I abstained.

I had no less than 25 different instances of chills. Holey Crap it's incredible! The music, the sheer enormity of the crowd, his speech, Michelle's fabulous ensemble. :) Truly, what an historic moment.

Then we went and got breakfast and I had the largest pancake in the universe. While impressive in it's girth, sadly it's taste strongly resembled Gerber baby food. Pumkin flavor.

I also wore my very bejeweled Obama tee shirt. I looked like I was modeling for QVC. But hey, I am more excited about Obama becoming president than me looking tacky with too much flair.

Then I was sleepy so I had to nap off.

then we wrote a new song called, "Holiday"!!! Hooray!!! then late that night, I thought, "I HAVE to celebrate and surround myself with cheery people!!!

So we went to this funky part of town and stumbled on this fabulous little club called The Echo in Echo Park (fitting) and there were lots of folks dancing to super happy music and jumping around goofy like they were 7 Year-Olds at a Bar Mitzva. I fit in perfectly in my beaded shirt, Pippi Braids, ski hat and rainbow leg warmers.

I was very happy and I too jumped around like a weirdo.

A little side note: sadly, my sister was one of the ill fated, "Purple ticket holders". She and approximately 10,000 other people - volunteers and staffers for Obama's campaign - weren't allowed in. Ugh. So let's give some props to those hard working people who helped get him elected but missed the whole Inauguration AND froze their tushies off.

Ok, my hat is officially off.

Anyway, HOORAY FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA!!! Let all good things begin NOW!!!

SHOW AND NEW CD NEWS!!!

So I have shows all next week in Colorado! And a big music cruise in early February!

I am kicking off my 3rd annual "Keep Someone Warm This Winter" Warm Clothing Drive. We will have clothing donation stations at all my shows this winter in Colorado. All clothes are donated to the Denver Rescue Mission. So please bring your warm hats, mittens, scarves, socks, coats, shoes, whatever you can! The drive has been super successful the past few years, and I'd love to out do it this year!

Also, several of the shows are almost sold out (Hooray!) but we added another show at Lannie's on Sunday Feb. 1st. Yes, it's Super Bowl Sunday, but it's at 8pm, so come on down with your belly full of Fritos and Coors and get rowdy with me. C'mon! There's a free kazoo in it for you.

Nina Storey New Year! New CD!
Hello Lovlies!

Happy Healthy New Year to you all!!!

I hope this finds you well. I am getting over being sick and am on voice rest for a bit so I am going to use this quality quiet time to really carve out my blogging chops.

I want to thank everyone who came out for my New Year's Eve show. It was fun to play with my new co-horts in crime, Scott Nickoley, Benjamin Lee, and Ryan Franks. And to the 60 or so of you who partook in the kazoo -a-long- Mazel Tov!

I tell you when you're playing the kazoo, anything is possible.

We recorded the show and will be posting some of it soon too.

I am currently in a mastering session on my new single, "Sorry". If all goes as planned we will be finished in just a few mere minutes!

Ok, back to the session. Just want to wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year!

Cheers!

Current mood:  bouncy
Hey All!

I hope that you are all basking in the afterglow of election bliss. Right at this moment I am wondering who I need to become friends with to get a seat at the inauguration. Anyone?....?

Beyond that, well, I'm in the studio recording with my musical cohort/co-producer, Ryan Franks, at breakneck speed my NEW ALBUM!!! I have been videotaping my writing and recording experiences and will be posting little movies of my adventures here soon. Warning: there is some explicit kazoo playing that will appear on screen.

Also, I had this hankering to actually post a song or two before it was done, kinda like you can see my work in progress. Thoughts?

Also, thanks for all the splendid emails about my short brown hair. It was however, a wig, (rather, a glorified toupee) so fret not, my massive web of hair is still in tact, attached to my head. (But don't think I'm not considering it.) Although I was a bit tickled at how many people actually found it notworthy! Aw shoot!

I'm gearing up for another triathlon this Sunday!!! I think we're going to post a little video blog of that adventure too. Another warning: there might be some super glamorous spandex involved.

Also I want to thank all the students and staff at AIA High School in Oakland, CA who invited me into their class and allowed me to share some of my musical experiences and music with them and then, the raddest of the rad, we played a little music together! Having you guys freestyle rap over "Getting Over You" was the highlight of my recent trip to San Fran. Actually, that could be the highlight of the year. :) What a great great school. Check out what we did together and find out more about the school at:

http://web.me.com/aiastudios/AIA_Studios/Home.html

http://web.me.com/aiastudios/AIA_Studios/Nina_Storey.html

This school actively has the kids involved in curriculum choices and incredibly positive, progressive programs. I look forward to working with them again soon!

Also! Red Lady Records has just released the SPANISH VERSION of "It's Your Birthday"! Now Available on I-Tunes! A fabulous group of students from Ixtapa and Zihuatenjo Mexico sing on this new version of the song! (I just found out that "It's Your Birthday" is one of the most popular birthday songs on I-Tunes!!!)

Also! I'll be performing at Sundance in Park City, Utah this January in several different venues, so stay tuned for the deatils! (Jan 14th-16th)

OH and lastly, NEW YEAR'S EVE SHOW JUST ADDED!!! Here in LA I will be performing at the intimate and yummy venue, ROOM 5 with the amazing, KEATON SIMONS AND ROB GILES! Other artists TBA too!

So that's the news from Lake Wobegone for tonight.

Stay tuned for some squeaky NEW MUSIC SOON gang!

I hope you are all warm and happy.

Thank you always for your support.

Many kisses,

OBAMA Hallelujah!!! Grumpy People on Airplanes, New York Bagels, Salsa in Mexico (the kind involving your hips) NEW CD in the Works and Everything In Between!!!

First, I just want to say how overwhelmingly wonderful it is that Barack Obama has been elected as our next President!!! The enormous leap this country just made and the collective "Ahhhhhhh!!!" that was heard round the world goes without saying.

I am so grateful to be alive at such an historic time for all of us. And a serious high-five goes out to the millions of people who all came together, b/c as much as this man has inspired us all, the hard work and dedication of so many is a testament that hope is alive and well and singing in the streets.

That said, I was on a plane in the last hours of the election on the 4th and was sandwiched in between two of the most undesirable people in the universe. I was flying from New York to LA and after having missed my first flight b/c I was falling in Love with NYC so much I plum forgot to get on my plane.

So I'm on this plane glued to my little TV set with baited breath, like most of the folks on the plane. And as life's lesson would have in store for me, I was flanked on my right by the most emotionally checked out woman I've ever encountered. She was, this is no exaggeration, watching like, a knitting show almost the entire 5 hour flight. Way to go apathy.

Then to my left was this marvelous piece of work who, when Obama won, was cursing and saying all of these really wretched things. I wanted to sock him for trying to kill my joy. I wanted to stick a sock in him for being such a **!!$%@!*!!!. So I cheered and woo wooed as pretty much the rest of the plane did, and just tried to take mental inventory on why I was experiencing such a profoundly moving and marvelous moment between Ms. rock and Mr. hard place.

Anyway, my time in NYC was spectacular, injured achilles and all. I witnessed the NY Marathon from my window, endeavored to find NY's greatest bagel, sang in a flipping awesome venue (Blender Theater at Grammercy), watched with 100 thousand other cheering New Yorkers the magic of a Halloween parade, made new delightful friends, and finished off seven weeks of touring with a show in Ixtapa, Mexico last night with musicians from Cuba and Mexico.

I am currently attending to my seventeen mosquito bites, enjoying the beauty of this paradise here at Bijou studios, and am going to celebrate the Obama victory when I get back to LA on the 13th, where I will also be starting work on my new CD!!!

I'm insanely psyched about my new music as it is a jump into sweet and spicy waters and I will be sharing it with you all along the way!

I'll also be doing cool shows in the coming months including performances at The Sundance Film Festival and my arse is going to be at the Inauguration, come hell or highwater, and even grouchy plane seatmates.

So that's my news for now. I've posted lots of new pictures on myspace, facebook, and my website from the tour, so check them out if you're on the crapper with your computer and have some free time on your hands.

Many many many blessings to you all and much love and light to all of us as we enter a new era of hope and possibility. YES WE CAN!!!

MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY CHEERS!!!

Nina
