The radio plays. Bing Crosby singing "My Old Kentucky Home." The beat is slow and a bit dramatic. A very odd collision of time and space. So, I thought I'd just scribble out a bit about where I've been and what I've been up to recently. Well, first off, I've been back in Brooklyn, NY about three months now and enjoying it immensely. I moved up to New York from Kentucky back in May of 2000 originally to work in network radio news. I thought I'd stay a year maybe, but ended up staying five years, getting promoted, covering some incredible news events and eventually wearing myself down. I picked up, resigned, loaded everything into storage back in Kentucky and went hiking on the Appalachian Trail for a bit back in the Spring of 2005. I covered 700 miles, decided to try something else and ended up moving to Tokyo for a year. I had a great time in Japan and met some really great friends, but eventually felt the draw to come back home. I tried settling back in Kentucky, but my career prospects disagreed. In the end, I moved back to New York in April of '07 and took a freelance position in my old radio newsroom. Things have been great since then. It's nice to have good bagels just a short walk away again. I'm also lucky to know plenty of great people up here as well. I have a nice, little place on my own in Brooklyn Heights, just a hop from the Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge. I work some odd hours, but it's not a five day a week grind and I hope to get into some other interesting, independent radio work in the near future. We'll see how that goes.
I hope everyone else is doing well and I look forward to your visits and extravagant gifts.
Take care, Joshua
