Nederlands grootste metalbelofte heet Anaphylactic Shock. Deze Tilburgse band werd begin 2007 gevormd door ex-leden van onder andere de hardcorebands No Turning Back en het schandalig ondergewaardeerde Restless Youth en heeft ook de huidige bassist van The Spades in zijn gelederen.
In Anaphylactic Shock gaan ze een tandje zwaarder. De hardcore-invloeden die er zijn, zijn al van van-dik-hout-zaagt-men-planken acts als Tragedy en Cursed, maar het geluid op 2000 Years is toch vooral te omschrijven als Entombed-circa-Uprising met Darkthrones Nocturno Culto op vocalen. Die mix van stijlen is al behoorlijk origineel en dan is de uitvoering ook nog eens erg sterk.
Het zijn vooral de wat tragere nummers waarin de band excelleert. 'Charlatan' en 'Holy Land' geven zanger Eikenaar de mogelijkheid helemaal los te gaan; bij Anaphylactic Shock geen gevoelloos geblèr, maar door de ziel snijdende wanhoop en waanzin. En terwijl de ritmesectie vooruitgaat alsof of die door stollende lava moet ploegen, zet gitarist Blankers zijn instrument nog eens in die overheerlijke Entombed kettingzaag-die-op-gang-komt stand.
De wat snellere nummers als 'Death over Life' en 'Waging War' missen de dramatische diepgang van hun tragere broeders. Hier lijkt het Anaphylactic Shock een beetje op te breken dat ze maar één gitarist hebben; wat drukker gitaarwerk had deze songs meer impact gegeven. Daarmee is overigens niet gezegd dat het hier slecht materiaal betreft; zelfs de minste nummers van 2000 Years stijgen ver uit boven het gemiddelde niveau in niet alleen Nederland, maar de wereld.
Hoewel ze zelf beweren dat 'The Future Floats Bleak and Ugly', kan het dus haast niet anders dan dat Anaphylactic Shock ook internationaal gaat doorbreken.

Wij houden wel van labels en bands die echt goed weten waarmee ze bezig zijn. Zelden hebben wij een band zo treffend omschreven geweten dat we er eigenlijk zelf niets meer aan toe te voegen hebben. Hypertension Records wist goed wat voor een monster het binnenhaalde met deze Nederlandse band. De vier bandleden van 'The Shock' zijn gepokt en gemazeld in de hardcorescene en komen uit bands als onder andere Restless Youth en No Turning Back, maar hadden duidelijk behoefte om iets anders te doen, iets smeriger en donkerder. De bandnaam alleen al: anaphylaxis is een acute en bijzonder ernstige allergische reactie bij mensen en andere zoogdieren die zelfs levensbedreigend kan zijn. Geen feelgood band dus, maar wel een die snel vooruitgaat. De band uit Tilburg bestaat nog maar sinds begin 2007 en valt frontaal aan met een zwartgeblakerde mix van brutaliteit, groove en extreme vocalen. Muzikale stijlen als death, grind, sludge, doom, hardcore, black, post metal en en rock 'n' roll vinden elkaar in '2000 Years'. Het lijstje van geciteerde invloeden is helemaal accuraat met namen als Pentagram, Entombed, Cursed, Tragedy, Disfear, Darkthrone, Black Sabbath en High On Fire. Anaphylactic Shock is dus geen kost voor wie zwak van hart is! De eerlijkheid gebiedt ons te zeggen dat wij de rauwe black metal vocalen niet echt lang trekken, maar dat is natuurlijk een volledig subjectief gegeven. Wie er geen probleem mee heeft, kan gerust een hoop punten bij deze score optellen. (JS)

"Cracked", Austria
I think I need some epinephrine, quickly. I feel as if I have been mauled and mangled and hit with a blunt instrument repeatedly. Then my heart stopped bleeding and my eyes bulged out and a single moment felt like a couple of hours, while my life drifted past me and I realized: mankind equals shit, evolution is going in the wrong direction and finally, not too far away, everything will end in a big pile of stinking shit. It is take or break time and it might be for another two millenniums. The cold is already creeping up on me. I hear the best walking the earth.
Anaphylactic Shock describe their music as a kind of doomy rock with extreme vocals. But yet it is so much more, mostly because that description does not sound heavy, but it is. (In this respect the Onlinde-Database my player gets his info from is more correct with tagging this album "heavy metal", which goes to show that trying to be more right makes you turn out wrong anyway.) "2000 years" contains a sludgy, downtuned miserable beast of heavy rock with vocals that can't decide between screaming and growling, and may be something that you don't want to encounter late at night in a dark alleyway. The sound is distorted and dense, pounding and punishing the way you would expect it.
What makes this band's music stand out is the self evidence and the and ease with which they tread in the mid- to low tempo area. Most bands would try to hide their lack of whatever and their will to be very extreme in either playing totally slow or totally fast – both of which becomes obvious and boring after a time, unless for the best of the best of each competition. Anaphylactic Shock stay cosily in the burning hell of midtempo where they melt the extreme visions of dark and psychotic hardcore (does anybody remember the term crust?) with the darkness and evil of classic metal. A fine mixture, perfect to set fire to something, be it the system or your sofa.
Where this band is headed lyrically, is easy to track down: on to a rather bleak and misanthropic future. Take "The future floats bleak and ugly" as a hint before chosing "death over life" or even "abandon all hope". And there probably is still this point to make over and over again, that most of what is happening seems to go into the wrong direction, that life is shit for most people and that happy-go-lucky indie-bands with meaningless lyrics won't ever cut the crap and effect any kind of meaningful change. On the other hand, the main reason for a lot of things being so shitty is that god or nature have a weird sense of humour and that's all. I mean, what is evolution's / intelligent design's reason for Paris Hilton? Who in his right mind could ponder this paradoxon and not start stabbing people in a shopping mall? You got the point.
Final note: Neurosis will never again make a record as groundbreaking and devastating and influential as "World of Pain" or "Souls at Zero", so it is probably a good idea for the fans to move on as well. After all, Neurosis are still a fucking force to be reckoned with, if mostly live, because their new albums tend to drag a wee bit. And then some. But with evil monsters as this one around, it is pretty easy to get your dose of nightmares now and again.

Als anaphylaktischer Schock wird eine heftige, kritische allergische Reaktion bezeichnet. Die holländische Band gleichen Namens legt mit "2000 Years" ihr erstes Album vor. Für allergische Reaktionen könnte die Band aber höchstens bei Leuten mit die für düstere Rock/Metal/Hardcore Sounds nichts übrig haben. Ich habe jedenfalls keinen Juckreiz oder Quaddeln bekommen. Die musikalische Heimat der Band liegt irgendwo zwischen Birmingham und New Orleans. Düstere Black Sabbath inspirierte Doom-Riffs, werden mit dreckigem Southern Rock gepaart vermischt mit einem deutlichen Hardcore Einfluss ergibt einen Sound der irgendwo zwischen High On Fire, Tragedy und Cursed liegt. Äußert ruppig und ungehobelt gehen die Herren mit düsteren Gitarrenwänden unterlegt von wummernden Bässen zu Werke. Der Shouter klingt mit seiner grummelnden hasserfüllten Stimme wie der Teufel persönlich. Die Mixtur funktioniert. Die Band klingt eigenständig und die Songs können begeistern. Die menschenfeindliche Atmosphäre welche die Band erzeugt, nimmt den Hörer schnell in Beschlag. Wer auf die oben genannten Bands steht, wird sich mit Anaphylactic Shock ebenfalls schnell anfreunden. Chapeau bas: Full-on Rock..n..Roll feelings.
Stoooop!You are wrong! It..s not a new Darkthrone album as you might have led to believe after the first notes rang out, but an energetic cocktail mixing the early Entombed, the late Darkthrone and full-on Rock..n..Roll/Groovy feelings instead.
"Two Thousand Years" is the debut album of this Dutch "hardcore" band (I do not want to start the music genre debate… please). I would say "chapeau bas" for your first kick and please go on like this, churning out more of such entertaining music.
I really enjoyed listening to this album; maybe because I am a fan of the material of aforementioned bads. The vocals are evil and groovy, the music raw and the drum parts truly "mouth-watering".
Moreover, 2 great songs like "Granite"("We are the children of doom"!) and "Death Over Life" turn Anaphylactic Shock into a band to see live - the audience, no doubt, will be pleased.

Ik geniet ervan om soms een beetje rond te neuzen. Wie niet? Zeker als het rondneuzen soms verrassende resultaten oplevert. Onlangs neusde ik een beetje rond en kwam ik de Belgische Hypertension Records tegen en tegelijkertijd een van hun telgen genaamd Anaphylactic Shock.
De band is afkomstig uit Nederland en –zoals de begeleidende promo me informeert- laat zich inspireren door o.a. de daar aanwezige hardcore scene. Hun plaat beluisterend kom ik gelukkig weinig hardcore invloeden tegen (of ik begin doof te worden). Wat ik wel tegen kom, zijn allerlei andere interessante roots. Bijvoorbeeld post-Sabbath achtige doomy/sludge passages. De erectie is in dat opzicht hard aanwezig (haha), zeker bij nummers als 'Charlatan' waar de passie en agressie tegelijkertijd letterlijk van afdruipen. De gitarist van Anaphylactic Shock (godverdomme, wat een naam zeg), ene Blankers, moet haast wel een mini-aanbidaltaartje hebben met een foto van Iommi. Zo lekker swingt het nummer. Maar opeens verandert de sfeer naar een meer Entombed achtige sound, vooral bij nummers als „Ultimatum" of „Death Over Life" is de oude Entombed groove aanwezig. De zang van Eikenaar neigt af en toe inderdaad richting brute core, maar streeft toch in mijn beleving een vooral vieze en smerige metalachtige sound na a la L-G Petrov (zanger Entombed).
De band laat af en toe ook wat invloeden doorschemeren die me doen denken aan Relapse bands als Neurosis of Cult Of Luna. Het trage en vooral zwaar klinkende en specifiek geproduceerde '2000 Years' kenmerkt zich zeker door een soort bedwelmende en benauwende sfeer en klinkt goed.
De plaat ligt me wel, al moet ik zeggen dat ik zulke bands niet veel luister. Als ik me bezatten wil met vodka, geef me maar Venom. Wil ik slapen: Pink Floyd. Anaphylactic Shock kan zeker in je smaak vallen, als je er de tijd voor neemt om deze muziek te absorberen.
